    Increasing the efficiency of automation in shipbuilding and ship-repairing by building a control system using lean manufacturing principles

    Shipbuilding companies often suffer from long production cycles, low staff utilisation and an unbalanced production line. To solve these problems, a lean shipbuilding regime is used which involves work breakdowns, production plans and virtual flow operations that combine lean production with modern information management technology in shipbuilding. Production planning manages all the production activities of a shipbuilding facility. Production plans are achieved just-in-time through intelligent organisation, reducing loss of staff and time. A virtual flow operation is then carried out, achieving high efficiency in flow production and high flexibility in production. By implementing a lean shipbuilding regime based on task package planning and its production system, the ship's production cycle is reduced, the number of workers is reduced, but the level of production balance is increased

    Symptomatic and silent cerebral ischemia (detected on MRI) in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus after carotid revascularization procedures

    Background: Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is a significant independent risk factor for ischaemic stroke. Carotid revascularisation procedures are an effective method of primary and secondary stroke prevention. However, patients developed postoperative acute ischaemic lesions (AILs), which were identified via magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of the brains. Most of the patients with these AILs lack clinically overt symptoms. Aims: To assess the risk of ischaemic brain damage in patients with T2DM in the setting of carotid angioplasty with stenting (CAS) or carotid endarterectomy (CAE). Materials and methods: This open prospective study comprised of 164 patients with carotid atherosclerosis, who have undergone either CAS or CAE. Patients with T2DM were included in Group 1: 38 patients and 28 patients with CAE. Group 2 included patients without T2DM: 62 patients with CAS and 36 patients with CAE. All patients underwent a thorough neurological examination and diffusion-weighted brain MRI. In patients with T2DM, plasma glucose levels and glycated haemoglobin (HbA1c) were determined and their relationships to brain damage were evaluated. Results: In CAS, there were no statistically significant differences in the AIL frequency in patients with and without T2DM. AILs were found in 15 patients with T2DM (39.8%) and 29 patients without T2DM (46.8%, р = 0.24); three patients without T2DM were diagnosed with stroke. Of the 28 patients with T2DM who underwent CAE, 13 had AIL (46.4%); three had stroke (10.7%). In patients without T2DM, AILs were less prevalent in seven cases (19.4%, р = 0.012) and appeared asymptomatic. Following CAS, the baseline HbA1c levels were higher in patients with T2DM who developed AILs compared to those who did not develop AIL, 7.8% ± 1.4% vs 7.1 ± 1.1% (р = 0.0469). Negative impact of hyperglycaemia on the risk of cerebral ischaemia was observed in patients who underwent CAE, the baseline fasting plasma glucose level was 8.5 ± 1.9 mmol/l vs 7.0 ± 1.5 mmol/l in patients without AIL (р = 0.014). The baseline HbA1c levels in patients with and without AILs were 8.0% ± 1.7% and 6.9% ± 0.9% respectively (р = 0.023). Conclusions: Carotid revascularisation procedure for patients with carotid atherosclerosis may be associated with risk of stroke and asymptomatic acute cerebral ischaemic lesions, which are more prevalent in patients with T2DM. Also, increased HbA1c levels is a risk factor for AIL

    Photostimulation of Extravasation of Beta-Amyloid through the Model of Blood-Brain Barrier

    Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is an incurable pathology associated with progressive decline in memory and cognition. Phototherapy might be a new promising and alternative strategy for the effective treatment of AD, and has been actively discussed over two decades. However, the mechanisms of therapeutic photostimulation (PS) effects on subjects with AD remain poorly understood. The goal of this study was to determine the mechanisms of therapeutic PS effects in beta-amyloid (Aβ)-injected mice. The neurological severity score and the new object recognition tests demonstrate that PS 9 J/cm2 attenuates the memory and neurological deficit in mice with AD. The immunohistochemical assay revealed a decrease in the level of Aβ in the brain and an increase of Aβ in the deep cervical lymph nodes obtained from mice with AD after PS. Using the in vitro model of the blood-brain barrier (BBB), we show a PS-mediated decrease in transendothelial resistance and in the expression of tight junction proteins as well an increase in the BBB permeability to Aβ. These findings suggest that a PS-mediated BBB opening and the activation of the lymphatic clearance of Aβ from the brain might be a crucial mechanism underlying therapeutic effects of PS in mice with AD. These pioneering data open new strategies in the development of non-pharmacological methods for therapy of AD and contribute to a better understanding of the PS effects on the central nervous system.Russian Science FoundationRussian Foundation for Fundamental InvestigationsPeer Reviewe

    Analysis of Chemically Labile Glycation Adducts in Seed Proteins: Case Study of Methylglyoxal-Derived Hydroimidazolone 1 (MG-H1)

    Seeds represent the major source of food protein, impacting on both human nutrition and animal feeding. Therefore, seed quality needs to be appropriately addressed in the context of viability and food safety. Indeed, long-term and inappropriate storage of seeds might result in enhancement of protein glycation, which might affect their quality and longevity. Glycation of seed proteins can be probed by exhaustive acid hydrolysis and quantification of the glycation adduct Nɛ-(carboxymethyl)lysine (CML) by liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS). This approach, however, does not allow analysis of thermally and chemically labile glycation adducts, like glyoxal-, methylglyoxal- and 3-deoxyglucosone-derived hydroimidazolones. Although enzymatic hydrolysis might be a good solution in this context, it requires aqueous conditions, which cannot ensure reconstitution of seed protein isolates. Because of this, the complete profiles of seed advanced glycation end products (AGEs) are not characterized so far. Therefore, here we propose the approach, giving access to quantitative solubilization of seed proteins in presence of sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) and their quantitative enzymatic hydrolysis prior to removal of SDS by reversed phase solid phase extraction (RP-SPE). Using methylglyoxal-derived hydroimidazolone 1 (MG-H1) as a case example, we demonstrate the applicability of this method for reliable and sensitive LC-MS-based quantification of chemically labile AGEs and its compatibility with bioassays

This trend exists due to a number of reasons, such as the desire of states to create a positive image of their country, the expansion of international cooperation, changes in the global and domestic political situation, the protection of national interests, the prevention of conflicts between states, etc. Cultural diplomacy, beyond historical precedents, consists of a relatively new practice of a country’s foreign policy, which has traditionally focused on trade and security and defense issues.
