"IL TEATRO ERA ALLORA IL SUO SOSPIRO". SVEVO DRAMMATURGO
Although rewarded by a minor fortune than that which occurred to the novels, Svevo’s plays are a determinant parenthesis of his literary career: in fact, the writer has left thirteen commedies, distributed over a biographical arch which extends from 1880, the year of Ariosto governatore, up to, with La rigenerazione, the years immediately preceding his death. Consider, too, that the theater was a passion that accompanied Svevo for the whole of life, both as a frequenter of shows in Italy and abroad, both as a critic for the most important newspapers in Trieste.
For these reasons, it seemed appropriate in this research back on a theme - that of Svevo’s plays - less regarded by critics. In the first section of the thesis, entitled Svevo e il teatro, after a short outline of the criticism and of the history of representations, we tried to delineate the borders of the relationship that joined Svevo to the world of the stage. In the second section of the work, entitled Trasgressione, ribellione e falsificazione nel teatro sveviano, were taken into analysis the plays; comedies were grouped according to three themes: transgression, rebellion and forgery
A combination of tryptophan, Satureja montana, Tribulus terrestris, Phyllanthus emblica extracts is able to improve sexual quality of life in patient with premature ejaculation
Objective: The management of patient affected by premature ejaculation (PE) is nowadays not highly satisfactory. Here, we aimed to evaluate the tolerability and efficacy of a combination of tryptophan, Satureja montana, Tribulus terrestris, Phyllanthus emblica extracts in order to improve sexual quality of life in patients with premature ejaculation. Materials and methods: All patients attending to 5 urological centers from January 2015 to March 2015, due to premature ejaculation were enrolled in this study. At the enrolment visit, all subjects underwent self-administered IIEF-5, Male Sexual Health Questionnaire-Ejaculation Disorder (MSHQ-EjD), PEDT and IELTS (calculated as mean from that perceived by partner and that perceived by patient) and underwent urological visit and laboratory examinations. All patients received one tablet per day of a combination of tryptophan, Satureja montana, Tribulus terrestris, Phyllanthus emblica extracts for 3 months (Group A). After 3 months all patients underwent follow-up visit with the same investigations that have been carried out in the enrolment visit. The results were compared with a cohort of patients enrolled in the same period in another urological center and considered as a control group (Group B). All patients in the control group underwent counseling and sexual behavioral treatment without any pharmacological compound. Results: At the follow-up analysis, significant changes in terms of IELT in the Group A (mean difference: 31.90; p < 0.05) at 3 months and versus Group B at the intergroup analysis (mean difference: 30.30; p < 0.05) were reported. In the group A, significant differences from baseline to last follow-up were observed relative to IIEF-5 (mean difference: 1.04; p < 0.05), PEDT (mean difference: -2.57; p < 0.05) and FSH (mean difference: -16.46; p < 0.05). Conclusion: In conclusion, patients affected by PE may significantly benefit from oral therapy with a combination of tryptophan, Satureja montana, Tribulus terrestris, Phyllanthus emblica extracts in terms of IELT and PEDT scores improvement
A cloud robotics architecture for an emergency management and monitoring service in a smart cityenvironment
Cloud robotics is revolutionizing not only the robotics industry but also the ICT world, giving robots more storage and computing capacity, opening new scenarios that blend the physical to the digital world. In this vision new IT architectures are required to manage robots, retrieve data from them and create services to interact with users. In this paper a possible implementation of a cloud robotics architecture for the interaction between users and UAVs is described. Using the latter as monitoring agents, a service for fighting crime in urban environment is proposed, making one step forward towards the idea of smart cit
T1G3 high-risk NMIBC (non-muscle invasive bladder cancer): conservative treatment versus immediate cystectomy
Background The management of stage T1 poorly
differentiated G3 bladder cancer invading the lamina
propria continues to be debated. These tumours are
associated with a high risk of recurrence and
progression; concomitant carcinoma in situ and/or
multifocality are negative prognostic factors. Choosing
between a preserving approach such as transurethral
resection of the bladder (TURB) followed by
maintenance bacillus Calmette-Guerin (BCG) and an
invasive approach like cystectomy is critical.
Patients and methods Overall, 80 patients underwent
TURB and RE-TURB followed by intra-vesical
induction treatment with BCG plus maintenance
(Group A) while 72 patients underwent immediate
radical cystectomy with extended lymphadenectomy
(Group B). Patients were divided into 3 subgroups:
uni-focal tumours, multi-focal tumours and carcinoma
in situ associated lesions. In Group A, time to
first recurrence and time to progression were analysed.
A comparison was made between Group A and
Group B regarding progression-free survival, cancerspecific
survival and overall survival with a median
follow-up time of 8.3 years.
Results As far as concerns Group A patients, 42
recurrences (52.5%) were reported in a median time
of 10.4 months (range 3–26) and 25 progressions
(31.2%) in a median time of 25 months (range 3–68).
As far as concerns time to first recurrence and time to
progression, both the Kaplan–Meier survival curves
obtained are significant and P values are, respectively,
0.0263 and 0.0011. Comparing Groups A and
B patients, 25 progressions (31.2%) in a median time
of 25 months (range 3–68) and 18 progressions
(25%) in a median time of 25.9 months (range
4–72), respectively, were recorded. Regarding overall
survival, at 10 years, 24 deaths (42.5%) occurred in a
median time of 55.4 months (range 12–94) in Group
A and 42 deaths (58.3%) in a median time of
54.9 months (10–100) in Group B. Cancer-specific
survival was evaluated in Group A with a total of 18
deaths (22.5%) in a median time of 47.5 months
(range 16–78), and in Group B with a total of 16
deaths (22.2%) in a median time of 45.7 months
(range 16–88). The progression-free survival Kaplan–
Meier curve is not significant, the P value being
0.3801; the overall survival curve is significant with a
P value of 0.0487 while the cancer-specific survival
curve is not significant with a P value of 0.9762.
Discussion In Group A, considering ‘‘time to first
recurrence’’, the difference is greater between unifocal
lesions and multifocal or Cis-associated lesions.
Conversely, for ‘‘time to progression’’, there is a
greater difference between unifocal and multifocal
tumours and Cis-associated tumours. Looking at
‘‘progression-free survival’’ in Group A and Group B
patients, there is no statistically significant difference,
like in cancer-specific survival. A statistically significant
difference was observed in overall survival
being in favour of conservative treatment thus
reflecting that conservative treatment is not burdened
by all the surgical and post-operative complications
of cystectomy.
Conclusions Although NMIBC invading the lamina
propria, stage G3, with or without Cis-associated
lesions are burdened both by a high volume of
recurrences and progressions, cystectomy could be
considered an aggressive approach. New biological
markers are now needed which are able to predict the
behaviour of the cancer and to guide the decisionmaking
process between conservative or aggressive
treatment
The Possible Role of Prescribing Medications, Including Central Nervous System Drugs, in Contributing to Male-Factor Infertility (MFI): Assessment of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Pharmacovigilance Database
© 2023 by the authors. Licensee MDPI, Basel, Switzerland. This is an open access article distributed under the terms of the Creative Commons Attribution License (CC BY), https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/Background: A wide range of medications may have a possible role in the development of male-factor infertility (MFI), including various antineoplastic agents, testosterone/anabolic steroids, immunosuppressive drugs/immunomodulators, glucocorticosteroids, non-steroidal an-ti-inflammatory drugs, opiates, antiandrogenic drugs/5-alpha-reductase inhibitors, various antibi-otics, antidepressants, antipsychotics, antiepileptic agents and others. We aimed at investigating this issue from a pharmacovigilance-based perspective. Methods: The Food and Drug Administra-tion (FDA) Adverse Event Reporting System (FAERS) database was queried to identify the drugs associated the most with MFI individual reports. Only those drugs being associated with more than 10 MFI reports were considered for the disproportionality analysis. Proportional Reporting Ratios (PRRs) and their confidence intervals were computed for all the drugs identified in this way in January 2023. Secondary, ‘unmasking’, dataset analyses were carried out as well. Results: Out of the whole database, 955 MFI reports were identified, 408 (42.7%) of which were associated with 20 medications ,which had more than 10 reports each. Within this group, finasteride, testosterone, valproate, diethylstilbestrol, mechloretamine, verapamil, lovastatin and nifedipine showed signif-icant levels of actual disproportionate reporting. Out of these, and before unmasking, the highest PRR values were identified for finasteride, diethylstilbestrol and mechloretamine, respectively, with values of 16.0 (12.7–20.3), 14.3 (9.1–22.4) and 58.7 (36.3–95.9). Conclusions: A variety of several medications, a number of which were already supposed to be potentially linked with MFI based on the existing evidence, were associated with significant PRR levels for MFI in this analysis. A number of agents which were previously hypothesized to be associated with MFI were not represented in this analysis, suggesting that drug-induced MFI is likely under-reported to regulatory agencies. Reproductive medicine specialists should put more effort into the detection and reporting of these adverse drug reactions.Peer reviewe
Prospective open-label study on the efficacy and tolerability of a combination of nutritional supplements in primary infertile patients with idiopathic astenoteratozoospermia
Aim of the study: To evaluate with an open-label study the efficacy and safety of a complex
of nutritional supplements with antioxidant activity (L-carnitine, acetyl-L-carnitine,
fructose, citric acid, selenium, coenzyme Q10, zinc, ascorbic acid, cyanocobalamin, folic
acid) in primary infertile patients with idiopathic astenoteratozoospermia.
Methods: The study was conducted in a population of 114 infertile men (96 completed the
study) diagnosed with idiopathic astenoteratozoospermia since at least 18 months.
Patients orally received a formulation (Proxeed - Sigma-Tau) containing L-carnitine 145 mg,
acetyl-L-carnitine 64 mg, fructose 250 mg, citric acid 50 mg, selenium 50 mcg, coenzyme Q10 20
mg, zinc 10 mg, ascorbic acid 90 mg, cyanocobalamin 1.5 mcg, folic acid 200 mcg in combination
once a day for 4 months.
Results: At the end of study, the mean sperm progressive motility showed a statistically significant
increase from 18.3 ± 3.8 to 42.1 ± 5.5. Sixteen patients achieved pregnancy during the study. No
significant improvement were observed for sperm density and rate of morphologically normal
forms. The treatment was well tolerated.
Conclusions: Carnitines in association with others functional substances can improve the most
important parameters of sperm quality
Effects of feeding raw or extruded linseed on the ruminal ecosystem of sheep
Polyunsaturated fatty acids affect bacterial and protozoal population, inducing important modifications in rumen metabolism. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of linseed extrusion on in situ ruminal degradability and microbial number and distribution. Six ruminally fistulated sheep were divided in 3 groups and fed one of the following diets according to a replicated Latin square design: (a) control, based on mixed hay and maize grains; (b) as in (a) plus 130 g of grounded raw linseed; (c) as in (b) except that the linseed was extruded. Extrusion decreased linseed dry matter and fat degradabilities. There was a marked reduction of total protozoal population in sheep fed supplemented diets. No effects were observed between groups on bacterial concentration, hay dry matter and NDF in situ degradabilities

Reduced intraoperative bleeding during transurethral resection of the prostate: Evaluation of finasteride, vascular endothelial growth factor, and CD34
Finasteride is an antiandrogen that inhibits 5-α-
reductase, an enzyme that converts testosterone to
dihydrotestosterone. Finasteride significantly reduces
intraoperative bleeding when 10 mg/d is administered
for 60 days before transurethral resection of the prostate.
Our double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled
study evaluated 200 patients with benign prostatic
hyperplasia who underwent transurethral resection of
the prostate. We compared a placebo group (n = 100)
with a group (n = 100) administered 5 mg of finasteride
twice a day for 8 weeks. We intended to demonstrate the
mechanisms and effects of finasteride compared with
those of vascular endothelial growth factor, and to evaluate
CD34, an immunohistochemical marker of blood
vessel density in the prostate. Our results indicated a
lower average microvascular density and vascular endothelial
growth factor index for hypertrophic prostate in
the finasteride group than in the placebo group
