    Alteraciones hidrotermales en el sector Nidos, proyecto minero El Puesto, Macizo del Deseado, provincia de Santa Cruz

    Esta comunicación presenta los estudios realizados sobre las alteraciones hidrotermales del sector Nidos dentro del proyecto epitermal El Puesto, localizado en la región sud-occidental del Macizo del Deseado. A partir de las asociaciones minerales y su distribución se reconoció una zonación de alteraciones hidrotermales desde alteración argílica avanzada y silicificación cercana a la superficie hasta una alteración argílica intermedia con vetillas portadoras de metales preciosos, enprofundidad. Estas alteraciones se desarrollan sobre unpórfido dacítico de edad jurásica. Se interpreta que la silicificación y la alteración argílica avanzada se originaron a partir de aguas ácidas calentadas por vapor (steam heated) como evidencia del accionar de fluidos hidrotermales próximos al nivel freático, mientras que la alteración argílica intermedia fue generada a partir de fluidos clorurados reducidos con pH neutro. Estas alteraciones hidrotermales junto con la mineralogía, texturas y geoquímica de las vetillas permiten clasificar a las manifestaciones hidrotermales del sector Nidos como epitómales someras de tipo baja sulfuración.This summary reveáis the studies made on the hydrothermal alteration in the Nidos sector, in the El Puesto epithermal project, located in the southwestem Deseado Massif. Based on mineralogy and its distribution, a hydrothermal alteration zonation was defined from advanced argillic alteration and silification near surface, to a deeper intermedíate argillic associated with a precious metal veinlet System. These alterations were identified in a dacytic composition subvolcanic intrusión of Jurassic age. A steam heated waters near the paleowater table was interpreted from advanced argillic alteration and silicification, and the intermedíate argillic alteration was produced by neutral pH chloride waters. The hydrothermal alteration, mineralogy, textores and geochemistry observed, fits with the epithermal low sulfidation type characteristic

    We characterized a number of clinical strains of Staphylococcus spp. and investigated their sensitivity against polyphenols-rich extracts from natural raw and roasted pistachios (NPRE and RPRE, respectively). Out of 31 clinical isolates of Staphylococcus spp., 23 were coagulase-positive and identified as S. aureus, of which 21 were MRSA. Polyphenols-rich extracts from natural pistachios and roasted pistachios were prepared: the total phenols content, expressed as gallic acid equivalent (GAE)/100 g fresh weight (FW), was higher in natural pistachios (359.04 ± 8.124 mg) than roasted pistachios (225.18 ± 5.055 mg). The higher total phenols content in natural pistachios also correlated to the higher free-radical scavenging activity found by DPPH assay: NPRE and RPRE showed IC50 values of 0.85 (C.L. 0.725–0.976 mg mL−1) and 1.15 (C.L. 0.920–1.275 mg mL−1), respectively. Both NPRE and RPRE were active against S. aureus 6538P and Staph. spp. clinical isolates, with RPRE being the most active (MIC values ranging between 31.25 and 2000 μg mL−1). The antimicrobial potential of pistachios could be used to identify novel treatments for S. aureus skin infections

    Antibody Response to COVID-19 mRNA Vaccines in Oncologic and Hematologic Patients Undergoing Chemotherapy

    Background: Information on immune responses in cancer patients following mRNA COVID-19 vaccines is still insufficient, but generally, patients had impaired serological responses, especially those with hematological malignancies. We evaluated serological response to COVID-19 mRNA vaccine in cancer patients receiving chemotherapy compared with healthy controls. Methods: In total, 195 cancer patients and 400 randomly selected controls who had been administered a Pfizer-BioNTech or Moderna COVID-19 vaccines in two doses were compared. The threshold of positivity was 4.33 BAU/mL. Patients were receiving anticancer treatment after the first and second dose of the vaccines. Results: a TOTAL OF 169 patients (87%) had solid tumors and 26 hemolymphopoietic diseases. Seropositivity rate was lower in patients than controls (91% vs. 96%), with an age/gender-adjusted rate ratio (RR) of 0.95 (95% CL = 0.89–1.02). Positivity was found in 97% of solid cancers and in 50% of hemolymphopoietic tumors. Both advanced and adjuvant therapy seemed to slightly reduce seropositivity rates in patients when compared to controls (RR = 0.97, 95% CL = 0.89–1.06; RR = 0.94, 95% CL = 0.87–1.01). Conclusions: the response to vaccination is similar in patients affected by solid tumors to controls. On the contrary, hemolymphopietic patients show a much lower response than controls
