Intestinal Immunity to the Commensal Bacterium Akkermansia muciniphila

Intestinal immunity plays critical roles in maintaining host health. Despite the abundance of foreign antigens and activated lymphocytes in the intestine, only a few commensal bacteria that induce cognate adaptive immune responses during homeostasis have been identified. In this dissertation, I reveal that Akkermansia muciniphila, an intestinal bacterium associated with beneficial effects on host metabolism and cancer immunotherapy, induces cognate T-dependent immunoglobulin G1 (IgG1) and IgA antibody responses and antigen-specific T cell responses during homeostasis. In contrast to the select few examples of previously characterized mucosal responses to commensal bacteria, T cell responses to A. muciniphila are limited to T follicular helper cells in the Peyer’s patches in a gnotobiotic setting, without appreciable induction of other T helper fates or migration to the lamina propria. However, A. muciniphila-specific responses are context-dependent, and adopt other T helper fates in the setting of a conventional microbiota. These findings suggest that contextual signals influence T cell immunity to the microbiota and modulate host immune function during homeostasis. Interestingly, T cells specific to A. muciniphila expand dramatically in a novel (but still uncharacterized) genetic mouse model of intestinal inflammation, suggesting that this bacterium may become a major mucosal antigen when homeostasis is disrupted. If so, T cell immunity to A. muciniphila may play critical roles during infection and inflammatory bowel diseases

The day after: RSCVD lesson on resource sharing

The initiative “Resource Sharing in the Times of COVID-19” (RSCVD) was launched by the IFLA DDRS Committee to help libraries to fulfill users’ requests and information needs during the pandemic emergency. We describe our RSCVD experience of Italian volunteering librarians who provided and go on to provide materials through secure systems from libraries of the NILDE Network for the worldwide librarians. We present difficulties, results and open questions regarding document delivery and resource sharing exchanges. We can highlight benefits (international networking) and critical points (unsuccessful research of electronic documents). Finally we propose suggestions to better retrieve papers and books

Rozenmacher, Goldenberg y Diament: la problemática del inmigrante en tres dramaturgos judeo-argentinos

En este trabajo se abordarán las obras Simón Brumelstein, caballero de Indias (1987), de Germán Rozenmacher; Krinsky (1986), de Jorge Goldenberg, y El libro de Ruth (2010), de Mario Diament. Se trata de tres obras de dramaturgos judeo-argentinos que tematizan la problemática de identidad de los inmigrantes judíos que se encuentran en perpetuo conflicto entre el recuerdo de su país de origen y la nueva tierra a la que llegan en busca de un futuro mejor, que en la mayoría de los casos, no es el esperado. Esta identidad bifronte de los personajes es representada a partir de una construcción dual del espacio, en el cual la realidad y el recuerdo coexisten y dialogan. Este artículo se propone entonces, indagar en las diferentes formas en que las obras consiguen dar cuerpo a dicho conflicto, por medio de un análisis comparativo de los recursos propios utilizados por cada dramaturgo, estableciendo similitudes y diferencias entre las obras elegidas

Da Alfarda ao Pão Crioulo: O imigrante judeu em duas obras de César Tiempo

Neste trabalho, abordamos as obras Alfarda (1935) e Pão Crioulo (1937), do escritor judeu-argentino César Tiempo, que problematizam o conflito da integração dos imigrantes judeus na Argentina, retratando sua dificuldade para conseguir um equilíbrio entre aceitar os novos costumes e ideias, mas sem abandonar os próprios. As diferenças entre gerações, o casamento misto e o enfraquecimento dos vínculos intergrupais na geração dos filhos são alguns dos temas sobre os quais reflete César Tiempo nas obras que abordaremos. From Alfarda to Pan Criollo: the Jewish immigrant in two plays by Cesar Tiempo - Abstract: In this paper we analize the plays Alfarda (1935) and Pan Criollo (1937 ) by the Jewish-Argentine writer Cesar Tiempo which problematize the integrational conflict of Jewish immigrants in Argentina, reflecting their difficulty to achieve a balance between the acceptation of new customs and ideas without abandoning their own. Generational differences, inter-religion marriage and the weakening of the ingroup ties in the generation of children are some of the topics of Cesar Tiempo’s plays on which we’re going to focus

Towards the conformation of a Yiddish theater scene: A journey through the first decades of the Jewish theater in Buenos Aires (1901-1930)

En este trabajo abordamos la historia del teatro judío de Buenos Aires en sus primeras décadas, centrándonos en el período 1901-1930. Mediante este recorrido pretendemos dar cuenta del proceso de conformación de un circuito teatral en ídish en la ciudad de Buenos Aires, interrogándonos sobre las razones que provocaron su expansión en la década del 20, así como también acerca de los obstáculos que tuvo que enfrentar y que dificultaron su estabilización, hasta llegar finalmente a su período de mayor auge a partir de los años 30. Buscamos así mostrar el importante papel que tuvo el teatro en la vida de los inmigrantes judíos que llegaron a la Argentina, para quienes se constituyó como un espacio de encuentro y de reproducción identitaria, y simultáneamente como un medio de arraigo a través del cual pudieron sentar bases en el nuevo país.In this essay, I will focus on the history of the Jewish theater of Buenos Aires in its first decades, in the period 1901-1930. I aim to explore the development process of the Yiddish theater scene in Buenos Aires, inquiring about the reasons that caused its expansion since the ’20s. I will also explore the obstacles that this theatre had to face until finally reaching its peak in the 30s. By doing this, I will try to show the important role that the theater play in the life of the Jewish immigrants that arrived in Argentina and to demonstrate how the Jewish theatre functioned as a meeting place that allowed the newcomers to build an identity and, at the same time, create connections with their new country.Fil: Ansaldo, Paula Nora.
