In the present article such a Hopf algebra A is constructed for the coordinate ring B of the nodal cubic, thus further motivating the question which affine varieties are quantum homogeneous spaces

By reviewing and assessing the teaching methods of university professors and theory textbooks, and comparing those findings with student reviews, a new method for teaching the concept is developed. The proposed system incorporates aural, visual, and kinetic exercises to serve every learner. The literature review and sample unit plan are followed by a possible procedure for testing the effectiveness of the new method

    Ecological determinants of extrapair fertilizations and egg dumping in Alpine water pipits (Anthus spinoletta)

    Behavioral ecology has successfully explained the diversity in social mating systems through differences in environmental conditions, but diversity in genetic mating systems is poorly understood. The difference is important in situations where parents care for extrapair young (EPY) originating from extrapair paternity (EPP), extrapair maternity (EPM), and intraspecific brood parasitism (IBP). In birds, IBP and EPM are rare, but EPP is widespread and highly variable among species and populations. Explanations for this variability are controversial, mainly because detailed ecological information is usually lacking in paternity studies. Here we present results of the first study to identify the ecological determinants of extrapair activities for both sexes of the same species, the water pipit (Anthus spinoletta). DNA fingerprints of 1052 young from 258 nests revealed EPP in 5.2% of the young from 12.4% of the nests. EPM and IBP, both involving egg dumping (EDP), each occurred in 0.5% of the young from 1.9% of the nests. Nests with and without EPY could not be distinguished by traits of the breeders and by reproductive succcess, but they differed with respect to ecology: nests with EPP young were characterized by asynchronous clutch initiation, nests with EPM and IBP young were characterized by higher overlap with neighboring territories and closer proximity to communal feeding sites. We suggest that chance events, resulting from the temporal and spatial distribution of broods, offer a better explanation for the occurence of extrapair activities than female search for genetic or phenotypic benefits. This possibility of "accidental” extrapair reproduction as an "ecological epiphenomenon” with low potential for selection should also be considered for species other than the water pipi

    After a century of observations, we still do not know the origin of cosmic rays. I will review the current state of cosmic ray observations at the highest energies, and their implications for proposed acceleration models and secondary astroparticle fluxes. Possible sources have narrowed down with the confirmation of a GZK-like spectral feature. The anisotropy observed by the Pierre Auger Observatory may signal the dawn of particle astronomy raising hopes for high energy neutrino observations. However, composition related measurements point to a different interpretation.     Alginate/silica hybrid materials for immobilization of green microalgae \u3ci\u3eChlorella vulgaris\u3c/i\u3e for cellbased sensor arrays

    Thin layers and patterned dot arrays of sodium alginate containing living microalgal cells were deposited onto glass carriers which were subsequently gelled using amino-functionalized silica sol to obtain reinforced alginate hydrogels. The resulting alginate/silica hybrid materials showed improved stability in salt-containing solutions compared to alginate gels gelled by traditional methods using Ca2+-ions. Cell arrays were patterned by printing nanolitre-scale drops of sodium alginate/cell suspension using a noncontact micro-dosage system which allows the printing of solutions of high viscosity. Cultures of the green microalga Chlorella vulgaris were immobilized within the newly developed alginate/silica hydrogels in order to demonstrate the potential of the hybrid matrix for the design of cell-based detection systems. The herbicide atrazine as well as copper ions have been used as model toxicants. Short-term toxicity tests (exposure time: 1 h) have been carried out using atrazine and changes in chlorophyll a (Chl a) fluorescence were measured by imaging pulse amplitude modulated-fluorometry (Imaging-PAM). C. vulgaris cells immobilized within alginate/silica hydrogels demonstrated a highly reproducible response pattern and compared well to freely suspended cells. Activity and response sensitivity of immobilized cells to atrazine was largely maintained for up to 8 weeks, especially when stored under cool conditions in the dark. Furthermore, immobilized cells could be repeatingly used for short-term toxicity tests as atrazine produces a reversible inhibition of photosynthesis

    Benachteiligte Jugendliche in Ausbildung und Beruf individuell begleiten: Empfehlungen zur Umgestaltung der "Assistierten Ausbildung"

    Die "Assistierte Ausbildung" (AsA) soll als ein Arbeitsmarktinstrument benachteiligten Jugendlichen den Weg in Berufsausbildung und Beruf erleichtern, ihre Chancen auf den Abschluss einer Berufsausbildung erhöhen und Ausbildungsabbrüche vermeiden. Der Band dokumentiert die Ergebnisse der explorativ angelegten Begleitforschung. Grundlage der Studie sind qualitative Interviews zu Erwartungen, Verlauf und Ergebnissen der AsA mit Auszubildenden, Ausbildungsbetrieben sowie Fachkräften der Arbeitsagenturen und Bildungsdienstleister. Die Ergebnisse zeigen, dass die Assistierte Ausbildung einen wertvollen Beitrag zur Integration benachteiligter Jugendlicher in den Arbeitsmarkt leistet. Die Studie identifiziert jedoch auch Optimierungsbedarf, wie z. B. eine stärkere Flexibilisierung und Modularisierung, um noch besser auf die Bedürfnisse aller Akteure eingehen zu können.Assisted training (Assistierte Ausbildung, AsA) according to § 130 Social Code III is a support instrument for disadvantaged young people for individual support und socio-educational accompaniment before, during and occasionally after dual vocational training. It was introduced in May 2015 until 2021 at the latest. In the context of the reorganisation of the youth instruments of the Federal Employment Agency (Bundesagentur für Arbeit, BA), the continuation or removal of the deadline for the AsA is also being put to the test. In an accompanying scientific study conducted by the University of Applied Labour Studies of the Federal Employment Agency (Hochschule der Bundesagentur für Arbeit, HdBA), the extent to which adjustments are necessary in the course of restructuring was examined. The results confirm that the individual approach of the AsA has proven its worth, but that modifications are necessary to achieve better results. Taking into account the experiences of numerous actors, action-related recommendations are presented and brought together with the general state of discussion
