Physiological variation of estrogen and progesterone during menstrual cycle is well known.  They not only have an effect on blood pressure control, but also seem to have a role in regulating arterial compliance. This study was done to find out whether there are any changes in central arterial parameters during different phases of menstrual cycle. Thirty female  subjects  in the  age  group  of  18-22  years  with  normal,  regular menstrual  cycles  participated in this prospective observational study at our teaching hospital. Anthropometric parameters were recorded.  Blood pressure in all 4 limbs was recorded using cardiovascular risk analyzer-Periscope™ on Day 3rd to 5th (follicular phase), Day 12th to 14th (ovulation phase), Day 22nd to 24th (luteal phase) of their menstrual cycle. We collected blood samples during these three phases for estimation of estradiol and progesterone by ELISA technique. Analysis of variance and correlation statistics were done using SPSS 17.0 statistical software. No significant statistical changes were observed in systolic blood pressure, diastolic blood pressure, mean arterial pressure, pulse pressure, aortic systolic pressure, aortic diastolic pressure, aortic augmentation pressure, aortic index and pulse wave velocity during the three recorded phases of the menstrual cycle. There are many studies which correlate changes in peripheral artery blood pressure with different phases of menstrual cycle. But there is scarcity in data available which correlates central arterial pressures and arterial stiffness with natural hormonal variations in different phases of menstrual cycle. However, our results show that although there are subtle changes in blood pressure parameters along with estrogen and progesterone levels throughout the menstrual cycle, yet these were not statistically significant

This paper proposes to investigate the postulations of renowned agency theory and shareholder value (SHV) in relation to Corporate Governance (CG) attributes. Shareholder value is of a great concern to the shareholders of firms. Shareholder value have been investigated by numerous studies of corporate governance but with inconsistent empirical evidence. This study will focus on investigating the impact of CG attributes on Shareholder value measured by Tobin's Q or return on both equity and assets. The paper conceptualized four attributes (Separate leadership, proportion of Independent director, independent chairman, independence of nomination committee) from Corporate Governance mechanism in relation to shareholder value in companies listed on BURSA Malaysia. This is a conceptual paper which proposes to investigate the relationship between shareholder value and separate leadership, shareholder value and proportion of independent director, shareholder value and independent chairman, shareholder value and independence of nomination committee in the context of Malaysia. The proposed study has value for Malaysian government, policy makers, corporate boards, stock exchange and shareholders by highlighting the distinct impact on shareholder value and its relation with separate leadership, proportion of independent director, independent chairman, and independence of nomination committee. Effect of ischemia reperfusion on sodium-dependent phosphate transport in renal brush border membranes

AbstractThe effect of ischemia induced acute renal failure (ARF) on the transport of phosphate (Pi) after early (15–30 min) and prolonged (60 min) ischemia in the brush border membrane vesicles (BBMV) from rat renal cortex was studied. Sodium-dependent transport of Pi declined significantly and progressively due to ischemia. Western blot analysis of BBM from ischemic rats showed decreased expression of NaPi-2. A compensatory increase was observed in Pi uptake in BBMV from contralateral kidneys. There was no significant difference in NaPi-2 expression between BBMV from sham and contralateral kidneys. Early blood reperfusion for 15 min after 30 min ischemia caused further decline in Pi uptake. Prolonged reperfusion for 120 min caused partial reversal of transport activities in 30-min ischemic rats. However, no improvement in the transport of Pi was observed in 60-min ischemic rats after 120 min of blood reperfusion. Kinetic studies showed that the effect of ischemia and blood reperfusion was dependent on the Vmax of the Na-Pi transporter. Western blot analysis showed increased expression of NaPi-2 in the BBMs from ischemia–reperfusion animals. Further, a shift in the association of Na ions to transport one molecule of Pi was observed under different extracellular Na concentrations [Na]o. Feeding rats with low Pi diet and/or treatment with thyroid hormone (T3) prior to ischemia resulted in increased basal Pi transport. Ischemia caused similar decline in Pi transport in BBM from LPD and/or T3 animals. However, recovery in these animals was faster than the normal Pi diet fed (NPD) animals. The study suggests a change in the intrinsic properties of the Na-Pi transporter in rat kidneys due to ischemia. The study also indicates that treatment with T3 and feeding LPD prior to ischemia caused faster recovery of phosphate uptake due to ischemia–reperfusion injury

    Get PDF
Background: Set induction are preliminary measures taken by the teacher to start effectual classroom instruction and training. Objectives: The aim of the study is to familiarize the mode of set induction to MBBS students. To know the perceptions of MBBS students batch wise towards set induction as an introductory step in teaching/learning method. Methods: A Cross sectional study with cluster sampling was done on of second, third and fourth year MBBS students of Deccan College of Medical Sciences. After taking informed consent orally they were introduced to different types of set induction namely case -based scenarios, narratives and audio visual aids, then a questionnaire was given and results were noted and analyzed statistically in R-language software. Results: Among the 312 students that participated, 208 students (66%) answered all questions. Set induction impacts the students immensely and has significant role to play for all the batches 2020(2st year), 2019(3rdYear), 2020(4thyear). There is a statistically significant difference between batches regarding their perceptions towards set induction and was found to be engrossing and applicable. Conclusion: Set induction must be deliberately designed to facilitate its incorporation for smooth teaching learning process. Case based scenario introduction is the most preferred by students, closely followed by narration based and lastly by audio-visual based introduction

The purpose of this practice-based paper is to investigate the artistic reflections and self-aesthetics into the process of artwork making. Every stage of this process represents a particular significance from the initial stage to the finishing stage. Furthermore, this exploration aims to develop the employment of practical research in the field of Visual Arts on personal, communal and institutional levels. In this exploration, the methodology is the vehicle that transforms the research into reality. Making the artwork itself is the methodology, and this process is the primary reference of the present research. Therefore, the author presents the synthesis of the artwork making rather than the analysis of its aftermath, the focus in this context is the construction of the artwork. This is the result of this research, the artwork itself. Regarding the employability aspects of this approach, it involves the practitioners and researchers in the fields of the visual arts toward further realizations of the actual creative process. This employability takes place into the signs of progress on different levels through academic and artistic practices in schools, universities as well as higher learning and teaching institutions. The present practical paper is significant because it investigates reflections of the cultural identity as well as the narratives of personal memory into academic research. In the multicultural present temporality, research-oriented artists highlight the diversity of their societies and represent significantly personal aesthetics as themes in their artworks. This approach would elevate the mutual understanding among people from different aesthetical backgrounds; people's trends enhance multicultural perceptions, harmony, and coexistence. In addition, artists in this regard illustrate such an approach in their visual art when they compose practice and research with the symbolic content, which reflects social motives. Artists practice such art to critique the violent content in communication media and educate people that media may fake reality to create more audience and viewers. This study focused on the significance of subjective representations in contemporary arts, and the impact of such representations on the mutual understanding among people of multicultural societies. This paper is a practical outcome of a multidisciplinary research project conducted by the authors on the contemporary and modern practices of the Improvisation in Arts. All the authors are research-oriented practitioners in the fields of visual arts, performance arts, multimedia, Information and communication technologies as well as vocational training. Furthermore, the drawings, paintings, and sketches are all made by the correspondent author Assistant Professor Dr. Mohammed Baker Mohammed Al-Abbas as part of his research-oriented artistic practice through the hybrid painting techniques. Abstract The present studio-based paper aims to explore the creative reflections of the aesthetics of otherness within the practical phases of the painting production. This paper represents an experimental endeavor to create a two-dimensional artwork, which is a hybrid painting technique on canvas with mixed media and acrylic paints. Within such a specific practice-based context, each phase of this practical approach outlines a critical significance from the first phase of creating that painting to the completing phase. The practical methodology is the tool that converts the researcher's/artist's vision into creative academic production. The process of creating the painting on the canvas is the methodology; such manner turns to be a primary reference for the present exploration. There is a significant paradigm in this approach, which focuses on the artwork as a morphological creature being created by the researcher/artist rather than a consequent result that only exists as a finished/complete/polished outcome. The outcome of this research is the record of the artwork production itself. This record presents visual references of the artwork progress as well as a textual reflective narrative to describe this process with written words. This research-oriented artistic attempt introduces the artists and researchers in the domains of the Fine Arts to integrate the process of art-making into the methodologies of academic research. It is an academic text, reflective text as well as sequential images recording the artwork making. This studio-based experimentation is significant because it examines the aesthetics of the otherness into the expressive figurative abstraction in painting. Furthermore, the impact of such a studio-based approach manifests on advancing applications of the artistic oriented research in the field of Fine Arts globally on curatorial and academic levels.
