Magnetic Field Dependent Behavior of the CDW ground state in Per2M(mnt)2 (M = Au, Pt)
The Per2M(mnt)2 class of organic conductors exhibit a charge density wave
(CDW) ground state below about 12 K, which may be suppressed in magnetic fields
of order 20 to 30 T. However, for both cases of counter ion M(mnt)2 species
studied (M = Au (zero spin) and M = Pt (spin 1/2)), new high field ground
states evolve for further increases in magnetic field. We report recent
investigations where thermopower, Hall effect, high pressure and additional
transport measurements have been carried out to explore these new high field
phases.Comment: 6 pages, 10 figures, 27 reference
Automatic Discovery of Heterogeneous Machine Learning Pipelines: An Application to Natural Language Processing
This paper presents AutoGOAL, a system for automatic machine learning (AutoML) that uses heterogeneous techniques. In contrast with existing AutoML approaches, our contribution can automatically build machine learning pipelines that combine techniques and algorithms from different frameworks, including shallow classifiers, natural language processing tools, and neural networks. We define the heterogeneous AutoML optimization problem as the search for the best sequence of algorithms that transforms specific input data into the desired output. This provides a novel theoretical and practical approach to AutoML. Our proposal is experimentally evaluated in diverse machine learning problems and compared with alternative approaches, showing that it is competitive with other AutoML alternatives in standard benchmarks. Furthermore, it can be applied to novel scenarios, such as several NLP tasks, where existing alternatives cannot be directly deployed. The system is freely available and includes in-built compatibility with a large number of popular machine learning frameworks, which makes our approach useful for solving practical problems with relative ease and effort. This research has been supported by a Carolina Foundation grant in agreement with University of Alicante and University of Havana.
The project´s aim is to strengthen the citizenship skills of students in grades 1 and 2 of the Divina Pastora School in Riohacha - La Guajira, using didactic workshops as a strategy, this in order to significantly impact the training of children for coexistence in society. Achieving, through the workshops, to promote behavior where respect, tolerance, inclusion, and the recognition of others as equals prevail despite differences. Through the implementation, the previous knowledge on the part of the students was potentiated, where each of them participated and had the necessary spaces to express their thoughts spontaneously and frankly, where active listening, respect for the use of the word and assertive communication were important aspects. Essential and fundamental was each of the meetings with the students, because in this way it was possible to understand their interests, their weaknesses and strengths, in order to apply it to each of the moments where there was interaction with the children.
The comprehensive training of each of the students was an imperative course in the development of the workshops, because it’s not simply to train in citizenship skills to change or improve inappropriate behaviors in the academic context, on the contrary, the greatest effort was in leaving meaningful learning for the lives of the students; In this way, in the future, to ensure that citizens coexist in the country who help to maintain adequate conditions of coexistence, enjoying harmony, peace and tranquility in each of the communities
Demo Application for the AutoGOAL Framework
This paper introduces a web demo that showcases the main characteristics of the AutoGOAL framework. AutoGOAL is a framework in Python for automatically finding the best way to solve a given task. It has been designed mainly for automatic machine learning (AutoML) but it can be used in any scenario where several possible strategies are available to solve a given computational task. In contrast with alternative frameworks, AutoGOAL can be applied seamlessly to Natural Language Processing as well as structured classification problems. This paper presents an overview of the framework’s design and experimental evaluation in several machine learning problems, including two recent NLP challenges. The accompanying software demo is available online and full source code is provided under the MIT open-source license. This research has been supported by a Carolina Foundation grant in agreement with University of Alicante and University of Havana. Overview of the eHealth Knowledge Discovery Challenge at IberLEF 2020
This paper summarises the results of the third edition of the eHealth Knowledge Discovery (KD) challenge, hosted at the Iberian Language Evaluation Forum 2020. The eHealth-KD challenge proposes two computational tasks involving the identification of semantic entities and relations in natural language text, focusing on Spanish language health documents. In this edition, besides text extracted from medical sources, Wikipedia content was introduced into the corpus, and a novel transfer-learning evaluation scenario was designed that challenges participants to create systems that provide cross-domain generalisation. A total of eight teams participated with a variety of approaches including deep learning end-to-end systems as well as rule-based and knowledge-driven techniques. This paper analyses the most successful approaches and highlights the most interesting challenges for future research in this field. This research has been partially supported by the University of Alicante and University of Havana, the Generalitat Valenciana (Conselleria d’Educació, Investigació, Cultura i Esport) and the Spanish Government through the projects SIIA (PROMETEO/2018/089, PROMETEU/2018/089) and LIVING-LANG (RTI2018-094653-B-C22)
On the difference of torus geometry between hidden and non-hidden broad line active galactic nuclei
We present results from the fitting of infrared (IR) spectral energy
distributions of 21 active galactic nuclei (AGN) with clumpy torus models. We
compiled high spatial resolution (-- arcsec) mid-IR -band
spectroscopy, -band imaging and nuclear near- and mid-IR photometry from the
literature. Combining these nuclear near- and mid-IR observations, far-IR
photometry and clumpy torus models, enables us to put constraints on the torus
properties and geometry. We divide the sample into three types according to the
broad line region (BLR) properties; type-1s, type-2s with scattered or hidden
broad line region (HBLR) previously observed, and type-2s without any published
HBLR signature (NHBLR). Comparing the torus model parameters gives us the first
quantitative torus geometrical view for each subgroup. We find that NHBLR AGN
have smaller torus opening angles and larger covering factors than those of
HBLR AGN. This suggests that the chance to observe scattered (polarized) flux
from the BLR in NHBLR could be reduced by the dual effects of (a) less
scattering medium due to the reduced scattering volume given the small torus
opening angle and (b) the increased torus obscuration between the observer and
the scattering region. These effects give a reasonable explanation for the lack
of observed HBLR in some type-2 AGN.Comment: 13 pages, 5 figures, accepted for publication in Ap
