Few Long Lists for Edge Choosability of Planar Cubic Graphs

It is known that every loopless cubic graph is 4-edge choosable. We prove the following strengthened result. Let G be a planar cubic graph having b cut-edges. There exists a set F of at most 5b/2 edges of G with the following property. For any function L which assigns to each edge of F a set of 4 colours and which assigns to each edge in E(G)-F a set of 3 colours, the graph G has a proper edge colouring where the colour of each edge e belongs to L(e).Comment: 14 pages, 1 figur

The Effect of Evaluator Reputation on Feedback Acceptance

This experiment examined whether acceptance of feedback is affected by evaluator reputation, defined as the feedback recipient\u27s perception of the source as a generally easy versus hard evaluator. It was hypothesized that when feedback valence was inconsistent with the evaluator\u27s reputation concerning feedback, feedback would have a greater effect on the recipient\u27s self-perceptions, and secondarily, that feedback acceptance would depend on self-esteem level. Participants received false feedback on their levels of social awareness after completing a task and being told that the experimenter was either a hard or easy evaluator. Participants then provided post-feedback ratings of self-perceived social awareness. Results did not support the hypotheses, but instead suggested that feedback from an easy evaluator had a greater effect on participant self-perceptions than feedback from a hard evaluator. These findings add to our understanding of self-concept change, and may have implications in the fields of organizational psychology, academics, and sports psychology

Is the work-from-home concept here to stay? Study of changes in rental income from commercial real estate firms.

In March of 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic caused a sudden influx of employees working from home full-time. A study of 100,000 tweets in spring 2020 showed a 73% positive sentiment toward working from home (Dubey & Tripathi, 2020). In October 2020, Rutgers reported between 14 and 203 million Americans plan to relocate in response to the availability of work-from-home assignments. That might signal a shift in demand for companies connected to residential real estate; however, one industry is positioned to lose big if Americans don't return to office buildings: commercial real estate. We analyzed the 2019 and 2020 quarterly financial statements of seven commercial real estate firms that specialize in renting office space and found evidence of changes in revenue and net property, plant, & equipment. Q2 2020 quickly showed an average decrease in rental income by more than 12% from Q1. The decrease suggests that while many companies are closing brick-and-mortar locations and workers anticipate a permanent work-from-home status, their landlords are not yet experiencing a significant change in their rental income or PPE. The average long-term lease for office space is around 3-5 years (Smith, 2021), so it may take years to see an impact as clients decide now to renew leases in the future and management completes existing projects

Logistic regression models to predict solvent accessible residues using sequence- and homology-based qualitative and quantitative descriptors applied to a domain-complete X-ray structure learning set

A working example of relative solvent accessibility (RSA) prediction for proteins is presented. Novel logistic regression models with various qualitative descriptors that include amino acid type and quantitative descriptors that include 20- and six-term sequence entropy have been built and validated. A domain-complete learning set of over 1300 proteins is used to fit initial models with various sequence homology descriptors as well as query residue qualitative descriptors. Homology descriptors are derived from BLASTp sequence alignments, whereas the RSA values are determined directly from the crystal structure. The logistic regression models are fitted using dichotomous responses indicating buried or accessible solvent, with binary classifications obtained from the RSA values. The fitted models determine binary predictions of residue solvent accessibility with accuracies comparable to other less computationally intensive methods using the standard RSA threshold criteria 20 and 25% as solvent accessible. When an additional non-homology descriptor describing Lobanov–Galzitskaya residue disorder propensity is included, incremental improvements in accuracy are achieved with 25% threshold accuracies of 76.12 and 74.45% for the Manesh-215 and CASP(8+9) test sets, respectively. Moreover, the described software and the accompanying learning and validation sets allow students and researchers to explore the utility of RSA prediction with simple, physically intuitive models in any number of related applications

A estrutura do Projeto abrange quatro etapas. The general objective of this Scientific Project is to elaborate a Marketing Plan for the Cape-verdian company ‘Salss – Imports and Exports Ltd’, aimed at increasing sales and improving the company image. ‘Salss – Imports and Exports Ltd’ develops its activities in the branch of import and distribution, commercializing five categories of products. Protein-Protein Interactions in the Mammalian Heme Degradation Pathway: Heme Oxygenase-2, Cytochrome P450 Reductase and Biliverdin Reductase.

Heme oxygenase (HO) catalyzes the rate-limiting step in the degradation of heme to biliverdin, CO and Fe, and requires electrons delivered from NADPH via cytochrome P450 reductase (CPR). Biliverdin reductase (BVR) then catalyzes conversion of biliverdin to bilirubin. The HO pathway is important for many cellular processes, including the maintenance of heme levels below toxic concentrations, iron homeostasis, carbon monoxide production, and antioxidant protection. Understanding protein-protein interactions of the heme degradation pathway will provide insight into potential regulatory mechanisms for the pathway. While the more well-studied HO isoform, HO-1, is reported to form complexes with CPR and BVR, little is known regarding the ability of HO-2 to bind either protein. In this thesis I describe various in vitro studies aimed at evaluating interactions of soluble HO-2 with CPR and BVR. The 1H-15N TROSY NMR spectrum of HO-2 reveals specific residues, including L201, near the heme face of HO-2 that are affected by the addition of CPR, implicating this residue at the HO/CPR interface. Alanine substitutions at HO-2 residues L201 and K169 cause a respective 3- and 22-fold increase in Km for CPR, consistent with a role for these residues in CPR binding. Sedimentation velocity experiments confirm the transient nature of the HO-2/CPR complex (Kd = 15.1 μM). Our results also indicate that HO-2 and BVR form a very weak complex that is only observed by cross-linking. Fluorescence quenching experiments suggest that the previously reported high affinity of BVR for HO is artifactual, resulting from the effects of free heme (dissociated from HO) on BVR fluorescence. Studies were also performed to evaluate the role of cysteine residues in catalytic activity and substrate inhibition for human BVR. Alanine substitution of C74 reduced catalytic activity by ~80% and this variant is less sensitive to substrate inhibition. Alanine substitution of C281, C292, C293 or C292/C293 had little effect on either catalytic activity or substrate inhibition. The studies described herein elucidate mechanisms which may be important features of regulation for the HO system in the cell, and thus have implications for regulating the cellular processes affected by HO and BVR.PHDCellular and Molecular BiologyUniversity of Michigan, Horace H.
