Experience of providing cultural safety in mental health to Aboriginal patients: A grounded theory study

The need for mental health clinicians to practice cultural safety is vital in ensuring meaningful care and in moving towards improving the mental health outcomes for Aboriginal people. The concept of cultural safety is particularly relevant to mental health professionals as it seeks to promote cultural integrity and the promotion of social justice, equity and respect. A substantive theory that explained the experience of providing cultural safety in mental health care to Aboriginal patients was developed using grounded theory methodology. Mental health professionals engaged in a social psychological process, called seeking solutions by navigating the labyrinth to overcome the experience of being unprepared. During this process participants moved from a state of being unprepared to one where they began to navigate the pathway of cultural safety. The findings of this research suggest health professionals have a limited understanding of the concept of cultural safety. The experience of providing cultural safety has not been adequately addressed by organizations, health services, governments, educational providers and policy makers. Health services, organizations and government agencies must work with Aboriginal people to progress strategies that inform and empower staff to practice cultural safety

Curriculum matters: Creating a positive climate for diversity from the student perspective

The purpose of this paper is to identify the factors that predict students’ perceptions of their institution’s success in achieving a positive climate for diversity. This study examines a sample of 544 students at a large, public, predominantly White Mid-Western institution. Results show that students’ perceptions of the institution’s ability to achieve a positive climate for diversity is a reflection of students’ precollege interactions with diverse peers and the institution’s ability to incorporate diversity-related issues into its curriculum. Results also indicate that these perceptions differ by race and gender. Una pronuncia sbagliata, ma per fortuna innocua

La pronuncia in epigrafe trae origine dalla domanda proposta da una passeggera, che agì in giudizio per ottenere il risarcimento del danno provo- cato dall’asportazione di un astuccio contenente preziosi da un bagaglio consegnato all’aeroporto di Palermo. La compagnia aerea fu inizialmente citata a comparire davanti al Tribunale di Roma, che tuttavia si dichiarò incompetente. L’azione venne dunque riproposta innanzi a quello di Civitavecchia che rigettò la domanda, ritenen- do mancata la prova del fatto costitutivo della responsabilità. I testi di parte attrice, precisa la sentenza, furono infatti escussi sulla natura e provenienza dei preziosi, non sulla loro effettiva presenza all’interno della valigia

I confini fisici e giuridici fra lo spazio aereo e quello extra-atmosferico

Human adventure in space began more than sixty years ago. Things have been changed a lot since, and space activities are often carried out for purely commercial purposes. This has partly changed the terms of the issue of delimitation between airspace and extra-atmospheric space. The question was essentially settled in two ways. According to some, a clear separation is essential, whilst for others the divisive element between air and space law is the type of activity carried out. None of the solutions put forward so far has definitively solved the problem; therefore it is proposed to place the purpose of transport at the centre of the issue. It is pointless to regard the transfer of people or goods differently depending on whether or not the points of departure or arrival are located on the earth. This seems to be the way followed by the Italian legislature with the reform of art. 743 of the navigation code

Los nuevos enfoques del transporte espacial

Hace unos años, durante las XLII Jornadas Latino Americanas de Derecho Aeronáutico y Espacial de ALADA en Santiago de Chile, en 2018, hice algunas reflexiones sobre el transporte de tipo vertical, es decir, de un punto de la tierra al espacio. Mi artículo intentará desarrollar este tema brevement
