There is majority of youth in India at present time. They are full of energy and have various innovative ideas in their minds. Now, therefore, the important thing about youth is to train them, to awake them and to empower them. Social media plays a very significant role to empower youths in various ways. The present era is enriched with social media, networks & ICT and youth are very frequently using these technologies. So it seems very effective and beneficial to develop their skills and move their energy in right direction through the social media. Social media works in a dialogic transmission system in which there are many sources to many receivers. Social sites have become the important part of youth’s life Generally they use internet only for entertainment. But now the time is to aware them about the benefits of technologies and about to give their precious contribution in the development of the country. A country can achieve any goal if social media works in right direction and in a right manner, such as in introducing the youths with their capabilities and capacities. Social media should be more developed and enriched to move the youths towards sustainable development goals .The present paper deals with the role of social media to empower youths about sustainable development. Key words:Youth, social media and sustainable developmen

    Get PDF
Micromachined cantilever platform offers an opportunity for the development and mass production of extremely sensitive low-cost sensors for real time in situ sensing of many chemical, explosives and biological species. These sensors have been used for measuring and detecting various hazardous chemicals, explosives, and biological agents, leading to the development of hand-held labs. In this paper, different geometries of microcantilevers have been analysed, and their performances in terms of deflection and shift in resonance frequency due to additional mass of analyte have been simulated. The results of these studies can be used to increase the sensitivity of these devices.Defence Science Journal, 2009, 59(6), pp.634-641, DOI:http://dx.doi.org/10.14429/dsj.59.156

Bifunctional recombinant fusion proteins for rapid detection of antibodies to both HIV-1 and HIV-2 in whole blood

BACKGROUND: Availability of accurate diagnostic tests has been helpful in curtailing the spread of HIV infection. Among these, simple, point of care, inexpensive tests which require only a drop of blood from finger-prick and give reliable results within minutes are a must for expansion of testing services and for reaching mobile and marginalised populations. Such tests will not only be a boon for the infrastructure-starved developing and underdeveloped countries but will also be extremely useful in developed countries where post-testing compliance is a major problem. Our laboratory has been involved in developing reagents for heamagglutination-based rapid detection of antibodies to HIV in whole blood using recombinant molecules specific for either HIV-1 or HIV-2. Since it is not required of a screening test to differentially detect HIV and HIV-2, it would useful to create a single molecule capable of simultaneous detection of both HIV-1 and HIV-2 in a drop of blood. RESULTS: The present paper describes designing, high-level expression and large-scale purification of new molecules comprising recombinant anti-RBC Fab fused to immunodominant regions of envelope sequences from both gp41 of HIV-1 and gp36 of HIV-2. These immunodominant regions of HIV envelope contain cysteine residues, which make disulfide bond and can interfere with the assembly of light chain and heavy chain fragment to make Fab molecule in vitro. To circumvent this problem, a series of fusion proteins having different combinations of native and mutant envelope sequences were constructed, purified and evaluated for their efficacy in detecting antibodies to HIV-1 and HIV-2. A chimeric molecule comprising native envelope sequence of gp41 of HIV-1 and modified envelope sequence of gp36 of HIV-2 gave good production yield and also detected both HIV-1 and HIV-2 samples with high sensitivity and specificity. CONCLUSION: The new bifunctional antibody fusion protein identified in this study detects both HIV-1 and HIV-2 infected samples efficiently and can be used in place of molecules that detect only HIV-1 or HIV-2. This will make reagent production more economical as only one molecule has to be produced in place of two molecules. Also, it will simplify the testing procedure allowing detection of both HIV-1 and HIV-2 infections in a single drop of blood

Background: To study the safety of epidural analgesia, effect on cardiotocographic parameters, fetal outcome and obstetric outcome of epidural analgesia in anaemic parturients and maternal satisfaction as well as pain relief among antenatal cases admitted in Upper India Sugar Exchange, GSVM Medical College, Kanpur, UP, India. Methods: This prospective study was conducted in anaemic parturients with cephalic presentation, singleton pregnancy having 36-42 weeks of gestation. Subjects of present study were divided into 2 groups. Control group included anaemic parturients not undergoing epidural analgesia. Study group included anaemic parturients who will be undergoing epidural analgesia. All these patients were followed up to delivery. When cervix was 3cm dilated, NST was taken 15minutes before analgesia and every 30 minutes after analgesia. Top up dose (0.0625% bupivacaine) was injected through catheter on parturients demand. For effect on CTG parameters, NST was taken 15minutes before analgesia and every 30 minutes after analgesia. Following every top up dose 10 minute monitoring for uterine contractions and effect for adequate analgesia was noted. Side effects and complaints noted at 5, 15, 30, 45, 60, 90, 120, 150 and 180 min interval. Fetal condition was also monitored and evidence of fetal distress, on clinical and/or cardiotocographic monitoring, was recorded. Patients walking duration was recorded in relation to study time from epidural insertion to delivery time. Labour was managed and mode of delivery and time of delivery was noted. Assessment of neonatal outcome was done with the help of Apgar scoring at 1 and 5minute after delivery and NICU admissions. Results: Maximum numbers of patients are lying between age groups of 18-23 and 24-29 years and are of gestational age group 37-40 weeks in both study and control group. The duration of 1st stage of labour in maximum number of primigravida patients is 5-8 hours and in multigravida it was 2-4 hours in both epidural and control group. The visual analogue scale is according to pain perceived during the course of labour and delivery by the epidural and control group. The degree of pain relief is statistically highly significant between epidural and control groups. Occurrences of maternal tachycardia are 5 times more in cases in whom epidural analgesia was not given. Conclusions: There is no statistically significant difference in the duration of 2nd stage of labour in both the groups of primigravida as well as there is no effect on the duration of second stage of labour in multigravida parturients in both the groups. Pain relief was more in the epidural group and was more satisfied after their delivery. There was no difference in effect on fetal outcome in epidural and control groups. There was no significant effect on cardiotocographic parameters except for the fact that for about 30 minutes post epidural top-up, there was fetal bradycardia which easily subsided with conservative management with left lateral position and oxygen. Maternal tachycardia was less in epidural group. This was highly significant because anaemic parturients are more prone to develop signs of cardiac failure during labour due to increase in stroke volume due to increase in heart rate due to pain

    Get PDF
Background: Objective of current study was to study the indications and maternal outcome of emergency obstetric hysterectomy and its role in reduction of maternal morbidity and mortality in complicated obstetric cases. Methods: A prospective study of the cases of emergency obstetric hysterectomy performed over a period of five years from 2009 to 2013 was done. Results: During the study period, 105 emergency obstetric hysterectomies were performed giving an incidence of 0.54% .The incidence of hysterectomy following vaginal delivery was 0.54% and that of caesarean hysterectomy was 2.08%. It was most common in the age group 26-35 years (66.66%) and in women of parity 3-4 (71.42%).Rupture uterus was the most common indication accounting for 59.04% cases followed by Atonic PPH (18.09%). Febrile illness and wound infection were the two most common co-morbidities. Maternal mortality was 5.71%.Conclusions: Emergency obstetric hysterectomy is potentially a life saving procedure which every obstetrician must be familiar with in cases of catastrophic rupture uterus and intractable haemorrhage. With the help of prostaglandins, modern policies of active management of labor, timely performance of caesarean section, internal iliac artery ligation, compression sutures etc. obstetric hysterectomy should be made a more rare procedure

Morvan syndrome: An interesting case of a rare disease

    Get PDF
Morvan syndrome is a rare disorder of peripheral nerve hyperexcitability, autonomic and central nervous system hyperactivity. It is considered autoimmune and paraneoplastic in nature. The most common associated antibodies are voltage-gated potassium channel (VGKC) complex antibodies which target leucine-rich glioma inactivated 1(LGI-1) and contactin-associated protein 2 (CASPR-2). It is characterized by myokymia, burning pain, cramps, stiffness, weakness, hyperhidrosis, weight loss, insomnia, and hallucinations. Thymectomy, long-term immunosuppression, plasmapheresis, intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG), steroids are the treatment options. Carbamazepine, phenytoin, amitriptyline, and benzodiazepine are useful in relieving symptoms. We report a rare case ofthis disease from western Rajasthan who presented with bilateral diffuse burning pain, cramps, insomnia, weight loss, hyperhidrosis, visual hallucinations, and continuous muscle twitching and rippling activity over the lower back paraspinal muscles. His serum VGKC antibodies were positive. He was treated with IV methylprednisolone (MPS) and IVIG and had a good response to therapy. We should look for rippling muscle movement in a high index of suspicion and should not be missed

Expression and Characterization of Chandipura Virus Proteins

    Get PDF
Chandipura virus (CHPV) has recently emerged as an extremely lethal human pathogen in the family Rhabdoviridae and is linked to significant encephalitis outbreaks in different parts of India. The biology of CHPV remains less studied to date and the availability of reagents such as purified proteins can enhance research in this direction. In this study, we have overexpressed four of the CHPV proteins namely Nucleoprotein (N), Phosphoprotein (P), Matrix protein (M) and Glycoprotein (G) using three  distinct tags in bacterial system and with changes in inducer concentration, growth and solubilisation conditions successfully purified M and G proteins for the first time along with N and P. Furthermore, the interactions of CHPV M protein with other viral proteins (G, N and P) was investigated using ELISA and GST pull down assays to show the utility of olubilised proteins. The results of both the assays demonstrated that M protein interacts with both G and N proteins, while it does not interact with P protein, in a similar  manner as reported for Vesicular Stomatitis Virus
