A numerical analysis of an anisotropic phase-field model for binary-fluid mixtures in the presence of magnetic-field

    No full text
In this paper we propose a numerical scheme and perform its numerical analysis devoted to an anisotropic phase-field model with convection under the influence of magnetic field for the isother-mal solidification of binary mixtures in two-dimensional geometry. Precisely, the numerical stability and error analysis of this approximation scheme which is based on mixed finite-element method are performed. The particular application of a nickelcopper (NiCu) binary alloy, with real physical parameters , is considered. The study substantiates a good agreement between the numerical and theoretical results, and demonstrates the efficiency of the presented method

The Pakistani variant of Women’s March Aurat March celebrated its second year in March 2019. The current study focuses on the issues raised by the participants during Aurat March 2019 to define patriarchy from a Pakistani-out-on-the-street feminist struggle. It analyses the protest signs, slogans, messages, and concerns raised through banners in the march. The paper attempts to offer a unique perspective on Pakistani patriarchy by analyzing the voice of the women instead of any theorization or enactment of the voice. It employs visual and textual methods to understand the view of the participants and finds that the participants of the Aurat March take patriarchy to be an institution that confines them to traditional gendered roles of homemakers, objectifies them, polices their minds as well as bodies and curtails both their movement and civil rights. The study also found elements of resistance to the patriarchal domination for instance through re-appropriation and redefining gender roles. The study stands to be a significant contribution to the discussion on women\u27s issues and women\u27s voices and help understand the nature of Pakistani patriarchy and the type of resistance against it

Synthesis and Preliminary Kinetic Study of 5-fluorouracil Derivatives for Targeting Colon Tumor

5-Fluorouracil (5-FU) is used widely as an anticancer drug to treat solid cancers, such as colon, breast, rectal, and pancreatic cancers; although it’s clinical application is greatly limited by its short plasma half-life, poor tumor affinity, myelosuppression, and gastrointestinal toxicity. To tackle these problems, numerous modifications of the 5- Fu structure have been performed. Thus, 5-Fu as possible colon specific prodrugs were synthesized in which 5-Fu is attached to amino acids (alanine & phenylalanine) using succinate group as a spacer via amide or ester bond. An approach to improve the properties of 5-fluorouracil is the chemical transformation into bioreversible derivatives (prodrugs) which are converted to the parent drug by enzymatic and / or chemical hydrolysis. The synthesis of the target compounds were accomplished following multistep reaction procedures, the chemical reaction followed up and the purity of the products were checked by TLC.   The structures of the final compounds were confirmed by their melting points, infrared spectroscopy and 1H-NMR spectra. The hydrolysis of compounds III, IV, V, and VI in aqueous buffer solutions of pH 1.2 and pH 7.4 were studied.   Compounds III, IV, V and VI had enough stability at pH 1.2 (t = 429.874min, t =429.874min, t=334.336min and t =376.139min respectively) and at pH 7.4 (t=601.823min, t=601.823min, t=429.874min and t=501.519min respectively); expecting that hydrolysis of these compounds by microbial enzymes in the colon will deliver 5-fluorouracil spontaneously

The effect of sponsorships and product marketing on the management activities of football clubs: A contextual and dimensional study

Market and marketing is important in our lives, as each of us looks forward to getting our different needs from the available resources, which are usually different and multiple. Therefore, different economic interests, producers of goods, services and ideas, strive to reach consumers and persuade them to buy goods and services, which they produce only. Marketing is not limited to the process of selling and advertising goods; it involves providing the required goods in the right place, at the right time and at the right price. Marketing is therefore one of the core activities of modern businesses. It is also a strategic hub, because it is a confrontation between the institution and the environment in which it is located

Background: Available evidence suggests that Transcranial electric motor evoked potentials and somatosensory evoked potential are safe methods to check the integrity of the spinal cord during spine deformity correction surgery. We compare the efficacy of Transcranial electric motor evoked potentials and somatosensory evoked potential to detect the nerve injury during Scoliosis surgery. Objectives: To demonstratethe advantages of combined motor and sensory evoked potential monitoring during Scoliosis surgery. Methods: We analyzed records of 65 (48 female and 17 male) Scoliosis surgery cases of Transcranial electric motor evoked potential and Somatosensory evoked potential.Mean age was 15.6 years. Patients who showed significant (at least 55%) of unilateral or bilateral amplitude loss , for at least five to ten minutes during the intervention in scoliosis surgery under total intravenous anesthesia will be included. Results: From 65 patients during surgery seventeen patients have a significant or complete drop of baseline amplitude on transcranial electric motor evoked potentials. Thirteen patients have the complete return of baseline amplitude by surgeon intraoperative intervention, whereas four patients havea reversal of motor response after 8 hours post-operatively. Transcranial electric motor evoked potential monitoring was 100% specific and 100% sensitive, whereas Somatosensory evoked potential was 100% specific and 85% sensitive. Conclusions: SSEPs and MEPs , in combination give accurate and quick information of nerve or spinal cord insult intraoperatively

Risk prediction models for atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease:A systematic assessment with particular reference to Qatar

Background: Atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) is a common disease in the State of Qatar and results in considerable morbidity, impairment of quality of life and mortality. The American College of Cardiology/American Heart Association Pooled Cohort Equations (PCE) is currently used in Qatar to identify those at high risk of ASCVD. However, it is unclear if this is the optimal ASCVD risk prediction model for use in Qatar's ethnically diverse population. Aims: This systematic review aimed to identify, assess the methodological quality of and compare the properties of established ASCVD risk prediction models for the Qatari population. Methods: Two reviewers performed head-to-head comparisons of established ASCVD risk calculators systematically. Studies were independently screened according to predefined eligibility criteria and critically appraised using Prediction Model Risk Of Bias Assessment Tool. Data were descriptively summarized and narratively synthesized with reporting of key statistical properties of the models. Results: We identified 20,487 studies, of which 41 studies met our eligibility criteria. We identified 16 unique risk prediction models. Overall, 50% (n = 8) of the risk prediction models were judged to be at low risk of bias. Only 13% of the studies (n = 2) were judged at low risk of bias for applicability, namely, PREDICT and QRISK3.Only the PREDICT risk calculator scored low risk in both domains. Conclusions: There is no existing ASCVD risk calculator particularly well suited for use in Qatar's ethnically diverse population. Of the available models, PREDICT and QRISK3 appear most appropriate because of their inclusion of ethnicity. In the absence of a locally derived ASCVD for Qatar, there is merit in a formal head-to-head comparison between PCE, which is currently in use, and PREDICT and QRISK3
