OBJECTIVE To estimate the prevalence of antenatal depression in South Asia and to examine variations by country and study characteristics to inform policy, practice and future research.  METHODS We conducted a comprehensive search of 13 data bases including international data bases and databases covering scientific literature from South Asian countries in addition to Google Scholar and grey sources from 1·1·2007 to 31·5·2018. Studies reporting prevalence estimates of antenatal depression using a validated diagnostic/ screening tool were identified, screened, selected, and appraised.  Primary outcome was proportion (%) of pregnant women identified as having antenatal depression. RESULTS Thirty-three studies involving 13,087 pregnant women were included in the meta-analysis. Twelve studies were rated as of high quality and 21 studies were of moderate quality. Overall pooled prevalence of antenatal depression was 24·57% (95% CI: 19·34, 30·69). Studies showed a high degree of heterogeneity (I2=97·55%) and evidence of publication bias (p=0·722). Prevalence rates for India (17·74%, 95% CI: 11·19, 26·96) and Sri Lanka (15·87%, 95% CI: 14·04, 17·88) were lower compared to the overall prevalence whereas prevalence rates for Pakistan (32·2%, 95% CI: 23·11, 42·87) and Nepal (50%, 95% CI: 35·64,64·36) were higher. CONCLUSIONS While robust prevalence studies are sparse in most South Asian countries, available data suggests one in four pregnant women is likely to experience antenatal depression in the region. Findings highlight the need for recognition of the issue in health policy and practice and for resource allocation for capacity building at regional and national levels for prevention, diagnosis and treatment

Bacterial analysis on dentistry and the study of antibacterial activity using formulated herbal toothpaste

    Get PDF
The current investigation dealt with studies on isolation and identification of oral biofilm forming bacteria and using formulated herbal toothpaste for inhibition. In this study, the bacterial populations were observed, and three were isolated from the used denture and different toothbrushes from various persons. From the collected oral samples, the streptococci, staphylococci, and bacilli were isolated and confirmed by biochemical tests. The increasing awareness of the environment and healthy lifestyles are generating some demand for more natural products such as those containing herbal extracts, so some of the indigenous medicinal plants were identified and formulated as herbal toothpaste; the efficiency of herbal toothpaste in inhibiting the growth of periodontal bacteria were evaluated. The bacterial inhibition rate and culture turbidity were observed in using herbal toothpaste against isolated pathogenic oral bacteria. Results were discussed

Triazole-induced drought stress amelioration on growth, yield, and pigments composition of Helianthus annuus L. (sunfl ower)

    Get PDF
In this investigation, a pot culture experiment was conducted to estimate the ameliorating effect of drought stress and drought with triazole compounds (hexaconazole, propiconazole, and tebuconazole) response on growth analysis, pigment composition, and yield parameters of Helianthus annuus L. (Sunflower). Sunflower is one of the most important oil crops and due to its high content of unsaturated fatty acids and a lack of cholesterol, the oil benefits from a desirable quality. Plant growth and productivity are unfavorably affected by nature’s wrath in the form of various biotic and abiotic stress factors. Water deficit is one of the major abiotic stresses, which adversely affects crop growth and yield. Drought stress during vegetative phase, flowering or seed filling period causes considerable decreases in yield and oil content of sunflower. These changes are mainly related to altered metabolic functions, one of those is either loss of or reduced synthesis of photosynthetic pigments and biochemical modifications. From 30 days after sowing (DAS), the plants were subjected to 4 days interval drought stress and drought with triazole compounds and daily irrigation kept as a control. The plant samples were collected on 40, 50, and 60 DAS. Growth, yield parameters, and pigment variations were analyzed. Drought stress decreased growth, yield, and pigments composition chlorophyll, carotenoid, and anthocyanin when compared to control. The triazole ameliorated drought stress by increasing the growth and biochemical potentials and bring into being the way for overcoming drought stress in H. annuus L. plants

The effects of triazole compounds namely triadimefon (TDM), tebuconazole (TBZ), and propiconazole (PCZ) on drought stress, biochemical, and antioxidant metabolism were studied in Zea mays L. (Maize) under pot culture. Plants were subjected to 4 days interval drought stress and drought with TDM at 15 mg/L, TBZ at 10 mg/L, and PCZ at 15 mg/L separately by soil drenching on 30, 40, and 50 days after sowing (DAS). Irrigation at 1 day interval was kept as control. The plant samples were collected on 40, 50, and 60 DAS and separated into root, stem, and leaf for estimating the amino acid (AA) and proline (PRO) contents and the activities of antioxidant enzymes. The drought and drought with triazole treatments increased the AA and PRO contents, superoxide dismutase, catalase, and ascorbate peroxidise activities when compared to control. Our results of this investigation have good significance, as this increase the innate biochemical and antioxidant metabolism of this maize plant

In this investigation, a pot culture experiment was conducted to estimate the effect of drought stress of Helianthus annuus L. (Sunflower). Sunflower is one of the most important oil crop and due to its high content of unsaturated fatty acids, a lack of cholesterol and the oil benefits from a desirable quality. Plant growth and productivity is adversely affected by nature’s wrath in the form of various biotic and abiotic stress factors. Water deficit is one of the major abiotic stresses, which   adversely affects crop growth and yield. The present study was aimed to understand the effects of drought stress on antioxidant enzymes like peroxidase, superoxide dismutase, catalase and ascorbate peroxidase activity on five different cultivars (SH 3322, A-110, K-618, SH 416, and S-275) of sunflower. All the sunflower cultivars showed reduced growth and altered enzymes activities under drought conditions. The antioxidant enzymes activities were increased under drought stress in all parts of the sunflower cultivars. The maximum activity was observed in K-618 and the minimum in S-275 cultivar. Among the five cultivars studied, K-618 showed better tolerance capacity in pot culture conditions under drought stress when compared to other cultivars studied.    Â

The molecular crystal structure was determined by this investigation, along with the impact of substitutions on the geometry of the imidazole units. The uses and applications of the imidazole compounds are described in the introduction. All eight imidazole derivatives’ syntheses were discussed. The essential characteristics of the imidazole derivatives are provided by the structural analyses of the eight derivatives and a portion of a database survey. All the derivatives have a planar imidazole unit. The crystal structures are stabilized by intermolecular O▬H…N, O▬H…O, C▬H…N, hydrogen bonds, and C▬H…π interactions
