    Design patterns discovery in source code : novel technique using substring match

    The role of design pattern mining is a very significant strategy of re-engineering as with the help of detection one could easily understand complex systems. Of course, identifying a design pattern is not always a simple task. Additionally, pattern recovering methods often encounter problems dealing with space outburst for extensive systems. This paper introduces a new way to discover a design pattern based on an Impact Analysis matrix followed by substring match. UML diagrams corresponding to codes are created using Visual Paradigm Enterprise. Impact Analysis matrices of these UML diagrams are converted to string format. Considering system code string as main string and design pattern string as a substring, the main string is further decomposed. A substring match technique is developed here to discover design patterns in the source code. Overall, this procedure has the potential to convert the representation of system design and design pattern in ingenious shapes. In addition, this method has the advantage of moderation in the size. Therefore, this approach is beneficial for Software professionals and researchers due to its simplicity.     Study of boundary layer parameters on rough surfaces

    When real fluid flows past a solid body or a solid wall, the fluid particles adhere to the boundary and condition of no slip occurs. This means that the velocity of fluid close to the boundary will be same as that of boundary.If the boundary is stationary, the velocity of fluid at the boundary will be zero. Further away from the boundary,the velocity will be higher and as a result of this variation of velocity, the velocity gradient will exist. The velocity of fluid increases from zero velocity on the stationary boundary to the free stream velocity of the fluid in the direction normal to the boundary. This variation of velocity from zero to free stream velocity in the direction normal to the boundary takes place in a narrow region in the vicinity of solid boundary. This narrow region of fluid is called Boundary Layer.Three main parameters (described below) that are used to characterize the size and shape of a boundary layer are the boundary layer thickness, the displacement thickness, and the momentum thickness. The displacement thickness is the distance a streamline just outside the boundary layer is displaced away from the wall compared to the inviscid solution. Another way to describe it is the distance the wall would have to be displaced to yield the same solution for flow outside the boundary layer as the boundary layer equations yield.The momentum thickness, is the distance that, when multiplied by the square of the free-stream velocity, equals the integral of the momentum defect across the boundary layer. In our thesis, we have obtained the boundary layer parameters and velocity ratio on smooth and different types of rough surfaces by using Air Flow Bench.     Subscription patterns, offer prices and the underpricing of IPOs

    Abstract Certain unique characteristics of the Indian bookbuilding process allow us to study the timing and subscription pattern of different investor groups and to dissect underpricing into two distinct components: one relating to pre-listing, set by the underwriter and the other from the post-listing period, which is determined by the market. Our results show the presence of sequential learning among IPO investors. Retail and Non-institutional investors follow the Institutional investors' subscription patterns when bidding for shares. The transparency of the bookbuilding process in the Indian IPOs helps alleviate the winner's curse problem for the noninstitutional and retail investors. We also show that market underpricing is primarily driven by the unmet demand of the non-institutional investor groups. This insight is unprecedented in the IPO literature.     Consensus statement on the management of invasive candidiasis in Indian scenario

    Invasive fungal infections in critically ill patients are associated with increased morbidity and mortality. Candida species are among the most common causes of nosocomial bloodstream infections and of invasive infections in intensive care units (ICUs). The high mortality mandates early identification of invasive candidiasis which is vital to initiate appropriate and timely treatment and improve outcomes. Delaying the initiation of treatment could result in an increase in mortality which can be avoided by usage of more rapid diagnostic techniques. There are multiple diagnostic tests including culture and non-culture tests like 1,3-β-D-glucan and newer techniques like MALDI-TOF which are available to diagnose candidemia but each with their drawbacks. Additionally, there are various guidelines like IDSA and ESCMID on treatment which aim to minimize death, late complications from deep-seated candidiasis and rise of drug- resistant Candida strains. Through this consensus statement prepared by a panel of experts, all of whom are senior intensivists, infectious disease specialists and microbiologists, we aim to address the major aspects of management of invasive candidiasis in the Indian population as per the authors opinions, backed by published evidence and supported by the latest clinical guidelines

    An avian influenza A(H11N1) virus from a wild aquatic bird revealing a unique Eurasian-American genetic reassortment

    Influenza surveillance in different wild bird populations is critical for understanding the persistence, transmission and evolution of these viruses. Avian influenza (AI) surveillance was undertaken in wild migratory and resident birds during the period 2007–2008, in view of the outbreaks of highly pathogenic AI (HPAI) H5N1 in poultry in India since 2006. In this study, we present the whole genome sequence data along with the genetic and virological characterization of an Influenza A(H11N1) virus isolated from wild aquatic bird for the first time from India. The virus was low pathogenicity and phylogenetic analysis revealed that it was distinct from reported H11N1 viruses. The hemagglutinin (HA) gene showed maximum similarity with A/semipalmatedsandpiper/Delaware/2109/2000 (H11N6) and A/shorebird/Delaware/236/2003(H11N9) while the neuraminidase (NA) gene showed maximum similarity with A/duck/Mongolia/540/2001(H1N1). The virus thus possessed an HA gene of the American lineage. The NA and other six genes were of the Eurasian lineage and showed closer relatedness to non-H11 viruses. Such a genetic reassortment is unique and interesting, though the pathways leading to its emergence and its future persistence in the avian reservoir is yet to be fully established

    Transparent bookbuilding, certification and initial public offerings

    India has the unique distinction of being the only country that releases information on the IPO bookbuilding process live to investors. Against this backdrop, we investigate the role this mechanism plays in generating investor interest during the bookbuilding process and the subsequent performance of IPOs in the immediate aftermarket. We show that, to retail investors, institutional bids in the early days of the bookbuilding process offer a coherent signal about the quality of the IPO. IPOs with high levels of institutional demand in the early days of the book also see high levels of bids from retail investors in the later days of the book. Large subscriptions have a strong positive effect on initial returns. Known certification mechanisms, such as the reputation of the sponsor, VC affiliation and IPO grading, are of limited importance in the Indian IPO market

    Sentiment Traders &Amp; Ipo Initial Returns: The Indian Evidence

    We use India\u27s unique regulatory design to test sentiment-based models of IPO initial returns. Using a sample of 362 Indian offerings from 2003 to 2014, we find that the traditional measure of IPO underpricing averages 23%. We decompose the traditional underpricing measure into two components: one related to voluntary underpricing by the underwriter and the other component related to the IPO\u27s first-day trading activity. We find minimal levels of voluntary underpricing. However, initial returns on the first day average 14% and are primarily driven by the unmet demand of non-institutional investor groups. Overall, our results support sentiment-based models of IPO initial returns

    Understanding human-water feedbacks of interventions in agricultural systems with agent based models: A review

    Increased variability of the water cycle manifested by climate change is a growing global threat to agriculture with strong implications for food and livelihood security. Thus, there is an urgent need for adaptation in agriculture. Agricultural water management (AWM) interventions, interventions for managing water supply and demand, are extensively promoted and implemented as adaptation measures in multiple development programs globally. Studies assessing these adaptation measures overwhelmingly focus on positive impacts, however, there is a concern that these studies may be biased towards well-managed and successful projects and often miss out on reporting negative externalities. These externalities result from coevolutionary dynamics of human-water systems as AWM interventions impact hydrological flows and their use and adoption is shaped by the societal response. We review the documented externalities of AWM interventions and present a conceptual framework classifying negative externalities linked to water and human systems into negative hydrological externalities and unexpected societal feedbacks. We show that these externalities can lead to long term unsustainable and inequitable outcomes. Understanding how the externalities lead to undesirable outcomes demands rigorous modeling of the feedbacks between human and water systems, for which we discuss the key criteria that such models should meet. Based on these criteria, we showcase that differentiated and limited inclusion of key feedbacks in current water modeling approaches (e.g., hydrological models, hydro-economic, and water resource models) is a critical limitation and bottleneck to understanding and predicting negative externalities of AWM interventions. To account for the key feedback, we find Agent Based Modeling (ABM) as the method that has the potential to meet the key criteria. Yet there are gaps that need to be addressed in the context of ABM as a tool to unravel the negative externalities of AWM interventions. We carry out a systemic review of ABM application to agricultural systems, capturing how it is currently being applied and identifying the knowledge gaps that need to be bridged to unravel the negative externalities of AWM interventions. We find that ABM has been extensively used to model agricultural systems and, in many cases, the resulting externalities with unsustainable and inequitable outcomes. However, gaps remain in terms of limited use of integrated surface-groundwater hydrological models, inadequate representation of farmers' behavior with heavy reliance on rational choice or simple heuristics and ignoring heterogeneity of farmers' characteristics within a population

    Benefits, equity, and sustainability of community rainwater harvesting structures: An assessment based on farm scale social survey

    Rainwater harvesting systems (RWHs) are implemented globally to bridge the frequent water supply-demand gaps. This study explores, through farmer household surveys (n = 492), how farmers perceived the benefits of RWHs, the equitability of benefits, and the role of contextual and psychological factors towards the behaviour of maintaining such systems. The study is carried out in a semi-arid catchment in the Indian state of Gujarat where RWHs, in the form of Check dams (CDs), have been implemented extensively. Results show that the benefits of CDs are perceived in good rainfall years through enhanced availability of water for expanding crops and irrigated areas. Farmers reported limited benefits of CDs in dry years. This is because of limited runoff and no carryover of stored groundwater, due to underlying shallow hard rock aquifer with little primary porosity, from wet years to dry years. Overall, ∼ 40%–50% of sampled farmers reported no benefits from CDs and the benefits decreased with distance. This reflects a spatially inequitable distribution of benefits skewed towards the farmers nearest to the CDs. The sustainability of CDs is a challenge with already ∼40% of CDs reportedly not working and 72.8% of farmers reported doing no maintenance activity. This is because 91.2% of farmers reported playing no role in its construction. The results show contextual (participation during construction, economic indicators) and sociopsychological factors (attention to CD condition, maintenance effort) significantly affect the behaviour towards maintaining the CDs. This highlights the need to complement RWHs with wider drought management and water demand management interventions to achieve drought resilience, and adherence to project exit protocols to secure the sustainability of investments.Water Resource
