O jardim botânico é elem ento essencial na conservação dos recursos vivos em uma perspectiva de desenvolvim ento sustentável no meio urbano. É tam bém pólo de alta im portância e facilitador na geração de uma consciência am bientalista quando utilizado como instrum ento educativo e de pesquisa científica, além de ser atrativo turístico.
