    MRAS Based Speed Identification for Sensorless Field Oriented Controlled Induction Motor with online Identification of Stator Resistance

    This paper presents a new online method of estimating the stator resistance of an induction motor simultaneously with the motor rotor speed for effective implementation of rotor field oriented control technique. Knowledge of stator resistance is required for the correct operation of speed sensorless control of the induction motor in low speed region. Since stator resistance varies with drive operating conditions, stable operation in low speed requires an appropriate on-line estimator for the stator resistance. The paper proposes the stator resistance and rotor speed estimation algorithm based on rotor flux based MRAS in a systematic manner. It enables the correct speed estimation and stable drive operation at low speed. The proposed parallel speed with stator resistance estimator is verified by MATLAB/SIMULINK simulation. A simulation result shows the robustness and accuracy of the proposed method and good speed tracking capability and fast responses have been achieved

    Study of compliance and impact of infant and young child feeding counseling in Patna district, Bihar

    Background: The infant and young child feeding (IYCF) practices have crucial role for physical and mental development of the child. Objective: To study the compliance to IYCF practices and impact of IYCF counseling in and around Patna district. Methods: Cross-sectional study was done in a hospital-based survey to find out compliance, and impact of IYCF practice counseling among infants and children attending a tertiary level hospital, Patna. Children in the age group, 6-24 months in and around Patna, were studied. Results: About 24% of the mothers initiated breastfeeding within an hour after birth. Exclusive breastfeeding for 6 months was practiced only by 36% of the mothers. Nearly, 43% of the mothers started complementary feeding at 6 months, and 45% of the infants were breastfed for 2 years. In the present study, 26% of mothers were using as age-appropriate complementary feeding and 35% of the mothers were feeding actively their child both during and after illness. Conclusion: Despite 3 years of counseling, compliance to IYCF practice in our area is low, and thus, the impact of IYCF counseling is poor in our area. Low knowledge score of mothers, lesser number of antenatal care visit is found to be an important factor responsible for low compliance

The paper describes the methodology for the development of an instrument to measure Attitude towards Open Educational Resources (ATOER) within the framework of research projects in the global south. It discusses various phases of development and validation of a scale which can measure faculty attitude towards Open Educational Resources (OER) and to present the findings through evidence of the impact of OER. The scale will help institutions to plan use of OER in teaching and learning by identifying positive and negative faculty attitudes

    Background and Aims: Penetrating eye injuries are a challenge for the anesthesiologists in emergency due to increase in intraocular pressure (IOP). The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of intravenous dexmedetomidine premedication on changes in IOP and hemodynamic response following laryngoscopy and tracheal intubation. Material and Methods: Hundred patients aged 18-60 years undergoing elective nonophthalmic surgery were divided into two groups of 50 each. Group D received a bolus dose of dexmedetomidine (0.4 μg/kg) diluted to 20 ml normal saline and Group C received normal saline (0.4 ml/kg) over 10 min as premedication. Heart rate (HR), systolic blood pressure (SBP) and IOP were measured and recorded before premedication (T1), 5 and 10 m after premedication (T2, T3), immediately after induction, intubation and then 1, 3, 5 min after intubation (T4, 5, 6, 7, 8). Results: HR was comparable in both groups at preoperative level, but it was significantly low in the drug group when compared with the control group at T4-T8 (P = 0.034, P < 0.001, 0.001, 0.036 and 0.001, respectively). The SBP was comparable in both the groups at baseline and till before induction. At T4-T8 there was a fall in SBP in Group D compared to the Group C (P = 0.045, P = 0.007, 0.001, 0.001 and 0.001, respectively). The baseline IOP was comparable in both the groups (P = NS). There was a significant fall in the IOP in Group D, 5 min after the drug infusion compared to Group C, which was sustained till 5 min after intubation (T8) (P < 0.001 at all intervals). Conclusion: Dexmedetomidine premedication in the dose of 0.4 μg/kg lowers the IOP and attenuates the pressor response to laryngoscopy and intubation
