In today’s economic context, organizations are looking for ways to improve their business, to keep head of the competition and grow revenue. To stay competitive and consolidate their position on the market, the companies must use all the information they have and process their information for better support of their missions. For this reason managers have to take into consideration risks that can affect the organization and they have to minimize their impact on the organization. Risk management helps managers to better control the business practices and improve the business process.Risk Management, Security, Methodology

Constructing Healthy Experiences through Human-Animal Interactions for Autistic Children and Their Families: Implications for Research and Education

    Get PDF
A significant body of research in the field of animal assistance in autism spectrum disorder (ASD) therapy indicates that positive human-animal interactions (HAIs), such as playing with therapy dogs or dogs presence while reading Social Stories, improve the social interactions and the level of the behavioral indicators of positive moods (smiling, laughing) in autistic children. In this chapter, we aim to present a series of evidence-based modalities of including animal-assisted activities in standard therapeutic settings but also in the home environment (e.g., interactions with family animals), targeting the socio-emotional development of autistic children and their optimal communication with the family members, including the companion animals. The studies presented here are discussed from the perspective of potential mechanisms, such as oxytocin system, and several attachment-related views. Our studies point toward the valorization of companion animals in the process of development and optimizing the interpersonal communication abilities of ASD children in a positive and engaging manner for both humans and animals

Kin-preferential cooperation, dominance-dependent reproductive skew, and competition for mates in communally nesting female house mice

Little is known about the behavioural mechanisms facilitating kin-preferential communal breeding in wild house mice (Mus domesticus). We evaluated the effect of kinship and male availability on aggression, social structure and reproductive skew in groups of female mice freely interacting and reproducing in semi-natural indoor enclosures. Triplets of either sisters or non-sisters were established in enclosures provided with either one or three littermate males, which were unrelated and unfamiliar to the females. Sisters were more spatially associated and less aggressive than non-sisters, leading to higher incidences of communal breeding and reproduction. This is in agreement with theoretical considerations on kin selection in house mice. Reproductive success was highly skewed in favour of dominant females due to subordinate infertility or complete loss of first litters, which might have been caused by dominant females. In spite of this, subordinates only rarely dispersed from the enclosures, suggesting that perceived dispersal risk generally outweighed relatively reduced reproductive potentials. Aggression levels among females were significantly higher when one male was available, compared to when three males were available. We suggest that this might result from higher female-female competition for mates, due to the risk of missing fertilisation when synchronously oestrous females encounter limited numbers of males in a deme. Our results indicate that, first, communal nursing in house mice might have evolved to ‘make the best out of a bad job' rather than to enhance offspring fitness; and, second, that female-female mate-competition might play an important role in shaping female social structure in this polygynous mamma

An Evaluation of the Main Physical Features and Circulation Patterns in the Black Sea Basin

    Get PDF
Having as target the semi-enclosed basin of the Black Sea, the primary purpose of the existing paper is to present an overview of its extensive physical features and circulation patterns. To achieve this goal, more than five decades of data analysis - from 1960 to 2015 - were taken into consideration and the results were validated against acknowledged data, both from satellite data over the last two decades and in-situ measurements from first decades. The circulation of the Black Sea basin has been studied for almost 400 years since the Italian Count Luigi Marsigli first described the “two-layer” circulation through the Bosphorus Strait in the year 1681. Since climate change projections for the Black Sea region foresee a significant impact on the environment in the coming decades, a set of adaptation and mitigation measures is required. Therefore more research is needed. Nowadays, the warming trend adds a sense of immediate urgency because according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s National Centre for Environmental Information, July 2020 was the second-hottest month ever recorded for the planet. Its averaged land and ocean surface temperature tied with July 2016 as the secondhighest for the month in the 141-year NOAA’s global temperature dataset history, which dates back to 1880. It was 0.92°C above the 20th-century average of 15.8°C, with only 0.01°C less than the record extreme value measured in July of 2019

The role of accounting in the global financial crisis. Assumptions and realities

    Get PDF
The financial crisis prompted some players to denounce the role of financial markets "fair value accounting" required by the accounting rules used by the major listed companies in the world, U.S. GAAPs in the U.S. and IFRSs in Europe. This paper is related to the link between accounting and the global financial crisis. As technical research, we use the procedure of reviewing the literature. The criticism of fair value accounting are considering in particular two problems: the lack of liquidity (as may be assessed on the balance sheet financial instruments not traded in the market) and the pro-cyclicality (emphasizing the economic phases of expansion and recession). These difficulties are real, but the solutions offered - temporary or permanent modification of existing rules in order to limit the scope of this method of accounting – are not at all convincing. Although it is easy to identify gaps in fair value is still more difficult to propose an alternative option to respond more effectively to the requirements of relevance, reliability, comparison and understanding necessary for financial accounting rules In particular, the reference to historic price, often raised, would provide more than comparable and much less relevant

The Earned Value Management - a measurement technique of the performance of the costs and labor in the project

    Get PDF
Most of the planned projects have problems due to the cost and time overruns from different reasons. Earned value management (EVM) is a project performance evaluation technique that has been used in many projects from several fields, but which has been adapted to be used in project management to objectively track the physical accomplishment of certain work. The earned value analysis offers the possibility to manage the project performances in early stages of the project to point out the need of the eventual corrective action. This paper aims to present the main parameters involved in the calculation of the Earned Value Analysis (EVA) for a ballast plant on shipboard

TRENDS REGARDING THE ROLE OF THE SETTER IN VOLLEYBALL

During time, it has been found that the setter plays an important role in the team game. In what concerns the volleyball, the setter holds the most important position in the team, being the most valuable player, his/her opinions being highly respected by the teammates. Nowadays, the volleyball has significantly evolved by fast and unpredictable offenses, strong defensive, forceful serves with the highest speeds. The setter is also called as the team coordinator. Beside the remarkable physical qualities the setter has, he/she is a kind of team psychologist, notices the teammates reactions in difficult and crucial moments, anticipates some affective states in certain phases of the game, and therefore together with the trainer, the setter is able to manage the situation as best possible. INTEGRATION INTO SOCIAL GROUP AS DIMENSION OF SOCIALIZATION

    Get PDF
The dimension of socialization consists in learning the group rules, in integration and membership in that group. European research underlines that ethnical minorities are less integrated comparing with the majority, both in the labour market or education. Sport has a great impact in the socialization process. According to some authors, the issue of developing a moral judgement using sport has been already raised, since the sport has a different influence upon the individuals and their groups. We should not forget that sometimes sport generates a mass behaviour. When irrational manifestation replaces reasoning, it can lead to violence. Ion Ionescu de la Brad lived during a period of intensive socio-economic changes in Romania, so that his opera shows a profound erudition. His works are a combination between the creative assimilation of economic and agronomic knowledge available to date and the originality resulting from the realities of those times and places. This paper aims to identify the contribution of scientist Ion Ionescu de la Brad in accounting theory and practice in our country. He was the first Romanian author interested in applying accounting principles to agriculture. In his view, double entry accounting is a method to control and monitoring of the movements of values occurring in the economic and administrative entities. The accounting records not only the movements of values, but allows the economic analysis, giving to the manufacturer the image of his present economic situation and a development perspective. So, in his opinion, it has both the role of reflect the results of economic activity carried out at present and the role of guide the manufacturers in their future activity. In his works, he also signaled the usefulness of accounting in terms of preventing and detecting damage that would occur in the economic or administrative activities. The scientist looked the accounting in terms of its role in nurturing and educating the moral principles of social conduct: honesty and fairness that must underlie relations between people. Studying his work, we can conclude that Ion Ionescu de la Brad is a pioneer of the accounting thought and of the application of accounting in our country's agriculture
