    Washing machines are a common feature today in our household. The most important utility a customer can derive from a washing machine is that he saves the effort he/she had to put in brushing, agitating and washing the cloth. Most of the people wouldn’t have noticed (but can reason out very well (that different type of cloth need different amount of washing time which depends directly on the type of dirt, amount of dirt, cloth quality etc. The washing machines that are used today (the one not using fuzzy logic control) serves all the purpose of washing, but which cloth needs what amount of agitation time is a business which has not been dealt with properly. In most of the cases either the user is compelled to give all the cloth same agitation or is provided with a restricted amount of control.     Head Impact Severity Measures for Small Social Robots Thrown During Meltdown in Autism

    Social robots have gained a lot of attention recently as they have been reported to be effective in supporting therapeutic services for children with autism. However, children with autism may exhibit a multitude of challenging behaviors that could be harmful to themselves and to others around them. Furthermore, social robots are meant to be companions and to elicit certain social behaviors. Hence, the presence of a social robot during the occurrence of challenging behaviors might increase any potential harm. In this paper, we identified harmful scenarios that might emanate between a child and a social robot due to the manifestation of challenging behaviors. We then quantified the harm levels based on severity indices for one of the challenging behaviors (i.e. throwing of objects). Our results showed that the overall harm levels based on the selected severity indices are relatively low compared to their respective thresholds. However, our investigation of harm due to throwing of a small social robot to the head revealed that it could potentially cause tissue injuries, subconcussive or even concussive events in extreme cases. The existence of such behaviors must be accounted for and considered when developing interactive social robots to be deployed for children with autism.The work is supported by a research grant from Qatar University under the grant No. QUST-1-CENG-2018-7Scopu

    One year prognosis of young Middle Eastern patients undergoing percutaneous coronary interventions

    Background: There is scarcity of data about the outcome in young Middle Eastern patients who undergo percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). We sought to assess clinical and coronary angiographic features and one year outcome of young compared with older patients following PCI.Methods: Baseline clinical and coronary angiographic features and major cardiovascular events from hospital admission to one year were assessed in young patients (45 years of age).Results: Of 2426 patients; 308 (12.7%) were young. Young and older patients were predominantly males (76.3% vs. 79.8%; p=0.18) and had similar prevalence of hypertension, diabetes, dyslipidemia, and cigarette smoking. There were no differences between young and older patients in the rates of acute coronary syndrome as an indication for PCI (75.6% vs. 76.1%; p=0.90). The two groups had similar prevalence of one-vessel coronary artery disease (55.2% vs. 58.1%; p=0.37) and intervention for one vessel (74.0% vs. 72.1%; p=0.53). No significant differences were observed in the incidence of in-hospital adverse events in young compared with older patients. Incidence of adverse events in young patients at one year were not different from those in older patients, including cardiac death (3.63% vs. 2.11%), stent thrombosis (3.63% vs. 2.08%), major bleeding (1.30% vs. 1.18%), and coronary revascularization (3.65% vs. 3.24%); all p=NS.Conclusions: Among Middle Eastern patients undergoing coronary intervention; 13% were 45 years of age or younger. No favourable risk profile, coronary angiographic features or cardiovascular outcome were observed in young compared with older patients

    One of the salient features of the domestic cat is the aesthetics of its fur. The Selkirk Rex breed is defined by an autosomal dominant woolly rexoid hair (ADWH) abnormality that is characterized by tightly curled hair shafts. A genome-wide case - control association study was conducted using 9 curly coated Selkirk Rex and 29 controls, including straight-coated Selkirk Rex, British Shorthair and Persian, to localize the Selkirk autosomal dominant rexoid locus (SADRE). Although the control cats were from different breed lineages, they share recent breeding histories and were validated as controls by Bayesian clustering, multi-dimensional scaling and genomic inflation. A significant association was found on cat chromosome B4 (Praw = 2.87 × 10(-11)), and a unique haplotype spanning ~600 Kb was found in all the curly coated cats. Direct sequencing of four candidate genes revealed a splice site variant within the KRT71 gene associated with the hair abnormality in Selkirk Rex

    Data on the impact of objects with different shapes, masses, and impact velocities on a dummy head

    In this article, a data generated from impacts of objects with different shapes, masses, and impact velocities on a developed dummy head. The mass considered was in the range of 0.3-0.5 kg while the shapes considered were cube, wedge, and cylinder. The impact velocities levels were in the range of 1-3 m/s. A total of 144 experiments were conducted and the corresponding videos and raw data were analyzed for impact velocity, peak head linear acceleration, 3 ms criterion, and the Head Injury Criterion (HIC). This dataset includes the raw acceleration data and a summary of the overall processed data.
