Three-Dimensional Wave Packet Approach for the Quantum Transport of Atoms through Nanoporous Membranes

Quantum phenomena are relevant to the transport of light atoms and molecules through nanoporous two-dimensional (2D) membranes. Indeed, confinement provided by (sub-)nanometer pores enhances quantum effects such as tunneling and zero point energy (ZPE), even leading to quantum sieving of different isotopes of a given element. However, these features are not always taken into account in approaches where classical theories or approximate quantum models are preferred. In this work we present an exact three-dimensional wave packet propagation treatment for simulating the passage of atoms through periodic 2D membranes. Calculations are reported for the transmission of $^3$He and $^4$He through graphdiyne as well as through a holey graphene model. For He-graphdiyne, estimations based on tunneling-corrected transition state theory are correct: both tunneling and ZPE effects are very important but competition between each other leads to a moderately small $^4$He/$^3$He selectivity. Thus, formulations that neglect one or another quantum effect are inappropriate. For the transport of He isotopes through leaky graphene, the computed transmission probabilities are highly structured suggesting widespread selective adsorption resonances and the resulting rate coefficients and selectivity ratios are not in agreement with predictions from transition state theory. Between decorum and licence: new works by Luisa Roldán in Zafra (Badajoz)

El retablo mayor de la Iglesia Colegial de Zafra (Badajoz) es una obra promovida por los Duques de Feria y un importante conjunto arquitectónico con numerosas esculturas bien documentadas de José de Arce y Alonso Martínez. Las últimas incorporadas a la obra en 1680 (dos relieves y dos esculturas exentas) estaban consideradas anónimas si bien documentadas como procedentes de Sevilla. Un análisis estilístico detenido permite atribuirlas a Luisa Roldán.The altarpiece of the Collegiate Church of Zafra (Badajoz) is a work sponsored by the Dukes of Feria. It is an important architectural complex with a number of well-known sculptures by José de Arce and Alonso Martinez. The latest sculptures added to the work in 1680 (two reliefs and two free-standing sculptures) were considered anonymous but documented as coming from Seville. A careful stylistic analysis can attribute them to Luisa Roldán

The control of the territory in Nueva Vizcaya at the end of the 18th Century through the proposal of new curatos, misiones, generalatos and subdelegaciones ideated by the first intendente Felipe Díaz de Ortega

En 1788, Felipe Díaz de Ortega, primer gobernador intendente de Durango tras la Ordenanza de 1786, escribió un informe al virrey de Nueva España, don Manuel Antonio Flórez, en el que, además de alertar del lamentable estado de la circunscripción que gobernaba, proponía los arbitrios necesarios para su remedio: el despliegue de una tupida red de subdelegaciones; rectorías indígenas; curatos y misiones; y la creación de nuevas poblaciones. Pretendía afianzar el control de un territorio del tamaño de Gran Bretaña y la multitud de gentes de todo signo que vagaban por él. A través de dicho informe se pueden constatar los problemas sociales que aquejaban a Nueva Vizcaya, como el abigeato y la infidencia; vislumbrar algunos hitos experimentados por la gobernación durante la centuria; y analizar la panoplia de viejas y nuevas soluciones presentadas.In 1788, Felipe Díaz de Ortega, first governor intendant of Durango after the Ordinance of 1786, wrote a report to the Viceroy of New Spain, don Manuel Antonio Flórez, in which, besides warning of the regrettable state of the territory that governed, he proposed the necessary for its solution: the deployment of a dense network of subdelegaciones; indigenous authorities; curatos and misiones; and the creation of new populations. He wanted to strengthen control of a territory the size of Britain and the multitude of people of all sort that roamed it. Through this report we can see the social problems that afflicted Nueva Vizcaya, such as cattle rustling and infidelity; glimpse some milestones experienced by the government during the century; and analyze the panoply of old and new solutions presented

Luisa Roldán y el retablo sevillano

El objetivo de este artículo es dar a conocer una faceta poco conocida de la obra de la escultora Luisa Roldán (1654-1706) durante el tiempo en que trabaja en Sevilla (1671-1687): sus esculturas hechas para formar parte de retablos. La escasa información documental sobre esta actividad fuerza a adoptar el método comparativo como procedimiento de atribución basado, obviamente en un previo conocimiento extenso de la obra de esta escultora. Un total de diez nuevas esculturas de diferentes calidades son ofrecidas en este artículo y, con ellas, una nueva línea de investigación se propone para el futuro esperando que pueda ofrecer más información en este campoThe aim of this paper is to present a little-known facet of the work of the sculptress Luisa Roldán (1654-1706) during the time spent in Seville (1671-1687): his sculptures made to be part of altarpieces. The limited documentary information on this activity force to adopt the comparative method as the only procedure for attribution based, obviously on a previous extensive knowledge of the work of this artist. A total of ten new sculptures of different levels of quality are offered in this article and, with them, a new line of research is propose for the future hoping that it will provide more information in this field

Two severed heads attributable to Luisa Roldán in the Hispanic Society of America

Aumentar el número de obras de esta autora es el objetivo de este artículo en el que se proponen dos que pudieron haber salido de sus manos: las cabezas cortadas de San Juan Bautista y San Pablo que se conservan en la Hispanic Society of America, de Nueva York. Un análisis formal de sus rasgos y su comparación con obras documentadas o adjudicadas con seguridad, pretenden fundamentar esta nueva atribución. De forma paralela, se reflexiona sobre el posible origen sevillano del tema iconográfico que representan.Augmenting the number of works safely attributable to Luisa Roldán is the aim of this study. The author considers two sculptures that may have come from her hands: the severed heads of Saint John the Baptist and Saint Paul, in the collection of the Museum of The Hispanic Society of America, Nueva York. Formal analysis and comparison with securely documented works serve to substantiate the attribution. In addition, the possible Sevillian origin of this iconographic type is examined

Flores, Fernández y Oliva, tres azulejeros para las obras reales de Felipe II

Que las obras de arquitectura promocionadas por Felipe II eran acabadas frecuentemente con revestimientos de azulejos es una idea conocida desde hace tiempo. El ejemplo más frecuentemente aducido es el de los aposentos del mismo rey en el Monasterio de San Lorenzo de El Escorial aunque podrían ser citados muchos más casos conservados y otros conocidos a través de la documentación. Este rasgo de la arquitectura filipina y el personal interés del rey por el asunto debió ser un importante acicate para el desarrollo de la azulejería española en la segunda mitad del siglo XVI.
 Tres artistas han sido citados desde hace años como autores de los azulejos para Felipe II. Por un lado, el flamenco Juan Flores, del que tan sólo se tenían unas pocas noticias literarias sobre su vida y su obra y que recientemente he tenido la oportunidad de revisar a luz de nuevos documentos y obras.
