One Foundation's Experience with Primary and Integrated Care Grantmaking: Lessons on Leverage and Policy Change
Significant changes in health care practice usually require changes in compensation practice -- and may also require changes in licensing (of facilities and/or professions), certification and professional training. This is important work that requires a long-term commitment. And it may give rise to push-back from various sources invested in the current state of affairs:* Professionals, not wanting others to be licensed to perform similar services at lower reimbursement rates* Payers, not wanting to open a door to new categories of reimbursable services* Training institutions reluctant to alter curriculum, until it is clear that a new approach has staying powerFoundations are in a powerful position to speak out for change, as we "don't have a dog in the fight." That neutrality can be our strength, particularly as we become known for speaking clearly and from a basis in factual information and evidence-based approaches
Profit-led or cost-led inflation? Propagation effects through the EU inter-industry network
The return of persistent inflation in OECD countries has been the most significant macroeconomic phenomenon in
recent years. This article analyses different explanations for the current inflationary dynamics, from which various
policy recommendations arise. Specifically, by using a Multi-Regional Input-Output (MRIO) model, the article
investigates whether the rise in profits and profit share is the result of changes in the behaviour of firms or just the
natural outcome of rising energy costs, in the case of France, Italy and Spain. Our results indicate that companies raised prices more than necessary in order to maintain their levels of profitability in each of the European economies analysed, confirming that inflation hikes were led by surging profits. This implies that the introduction or strengthening of price controls would help to rapidly bring inflation under control, protecting the purchasing power of households
Un nuevo Allophaiomys (Arvicolidae, Rodentia, Mammalia) en el Pleistoceno inferior del sur de España
A new species of Allophaiom,i.r. A. chalinei, is described from the Lower Pleistocene of the Victoria cave (Murcia. Spain). This species is characterized by his great si~e, with confluent T 4 and T 5 and it has been also fouiid at the lower levels of Atapuerca (Burgos) and Venta Micena (Granada)
Orbital and spin relaxation in single and coupled quantum dots
Phonon-induced orbital and spin relaxation rates of single electron states in
lateral single and double quantum dots are obtained numerically for realistic
materials parameters. The rates are calculated as a function of magnetic field
and interdot coupling, at various field and quantum dot orientations. It is
found that orbital relaxation is due to deformation potential phonons at low
magnetic fields, while piezoelectric phonons dominate the relaxation at high
fields. Spin relaxation, which is dominated by piezoelectric phonons, in single
quantum dots is highly anisotropic due to the interplay of the Bychkov-Rashba
and Dresselhaus spin-orbit couplings. Orbital relaxation in double dots varies
strongly with the interdot coupling due to the cyclotron effects on the
tunneling energy. Spin relaxation in double dots has an additional anisotropy
due to anisotropic spin hot spots which otherwise cause giant enhancement of
the rate at useful magnetic fields and interdot couplings. Conditions for the
absence of the spin hot spots in in-plane magnetic fields (easy passages) and
perpendicular magnetic fields (weak passages) are formulated analytically for
different growth directions of the underlying heterostructure. It is shown that
easy passages disappear (spin hot spots reappear) if the double dot system
loses symmetry by an xy-like perturbation.Comment: 13 pages, 9 figure
