A class of colliding waves in metric-affine gravity, nonmetricity and torsion shock waves

By using our recent generalization of the colliding waves concept to
metric-affine gravity theories, and also our generalization of the advanced and
retarded time coordinate representation in terms of Jacobi functions, we find a
general class of colliding wave solutions with fourth degree polynomials in
metric-affine gravity. We show that our general approach contains the standard
second degree polynomials colliding wave solutions as a particular case.Comment: 13 pages, latex, to appear in J.Math.Phy
Higher order corrections to primordial spectra from cosmological inflation

We calculate power spectra of cosmological perturbations at high accuracy for
two classes of inflation models. We classify the models according to the
behaviour of the Hubble distance during inflation. Our approximation works if
the Hubble distance can be approximated either to be a constant or to grow
linearly with cosmic time. Many popular inflationary models can be described in
this way, e.g., chaotic inflation with a monomial potential, power-law
inflation and inflation at a maximum. Our scheme of approximation does not rely
on a slow-roll expansion. Thus we can make accurate predictions for some of the
models with large slow-roll parameters.Comment: 13 pages, 1 figure; section on consistency relations of inflation

An accurate measurement of the 235U(n,f) cross section from thermal to 170 keV of neutron energy has recently been performed at n_TOF facility at CERN using 6Li(n,t)4He and 10B(n,α)7Li as references. This measurement has been carried out in order to investigate a possible overestimation of the 235U fission cross section evaluation provided by most recent libraries between 10 and 30 keV. A custom experimental apparatus based on in-beam silicon detectors has been used, and a Monte Carlo simulation in GEANT4 has been employed to characterize the setup and calculate detectors efficiency. The results evidenced the presence of an overestimation in the interval between 9 and 18 keV and the new data may be used to decrease the uncertainty of 235U(n,f) cross section in the keV region

The experimental area 2 (EAR-2) at CERNs neutron time-of-flight facility (n_TOF), which is operational since 2014, is designed and built as a short-distance complement to the experimental area 1 (EAR-1). The Parallel Plate Avalanche Counter (PPAC) monitor experiment was performed to characterize the beam proâle and the shape of the neutron 'ux at EAR-2. The prompt Îł-flash which is used for calibrating the time-of-flight at EAR-1 is not seen by PPAC at EAR-2, shedding light on the physical origin of this Îł-flash

Two-particle transverse momentum differential correlators, recently measured in Pb-Pb collisions at LHC energies, provide an additional tool to gain insights into particle production mechanisms and infer transport properties, such as the ratio of shear viscosity to entropy density, of the medium created in Pb-Pb collisions. The longitudinal long-range correlations and the large azimuthal anisotropy measured at low transverse momenta in small collision systems, namely pp and p-Pb, at LHC energies resemble manifestations of collective behaviour. This suggests that locally equilibrated matter may be produced in these small collision systems, similar to what is observed in Pb-Pb collisions. In this work, the same two-particle transverse momentum differential correlators are exploited in pp and p-Pb collisions at sâ=7 TeV and sNNââââ=5.02 TeV, respectively, to seek evidence for viscous effects. Specifically, the strength and shape of the correlators are studied as a function of the produced particle multiplicity to identify evidence for longitudinal broadening that might reveal the presence of viscous effects in these smaller systems. The measured correlators and their evolution from pp and p-Pb to Pb-Pb collisions are additionally compared to predictions from Monte Carlo event generators, and the potential presence of viscous effects is discussed

Hadronic resonances are used to probe the hadron gas produced in the late stage of heavy-ion collisions since they decay on the same timescale, of the order of 1 to 10 fm/c, as the decoupling time of the system. In the hadron gas, (pseudo)elastic scatterings among the products of resonances that decayed before the kinetic freeze-out and regeneration processes counteract each other, the net effect depending on the resonance lifetime, the duration of the hadronic phase, and the hadronic cross sections at play. In this context, the ÎŁ(1385)± particle is of particular interest as models predict that regeneration dominates over rescattering despite its relatively short lifetime of about 5.5 fm/c. The first measurement of the ÎŁ(1385)± resonance production at midrapidity in Pb-Pb collisions at sNNââââ=5.02 TeV with the ALICE detector is presented in this Letter. The resonances are reconstructed via their hadronic decay channel, ÎÏ, as a function of the transverse momentum (pT) and the collision centrality. The results are discussed in comparison with the measured yield of pions and with expectations from the statistical hadronization model as well as commonly employed event generators, including PYTHIA8/Angantyr and EPOS3 coupled to the UrQMD hadronic cascade afterburner. None of the models can describe the data. For ÎŁ(1385)±, a similar behaviour as Kâ(892)0 is observed in data unlike the predictions of EPOS3 with afterburner
