    ODREĐIVANJE GRANICA RAZLUČIVOSTI ELEKTRIČNE TOMOGRAFIJE NA MODELU BLOKA U HOMOGENOJ SREDINI POMOĆU ELEKTRIČNOG MODELIRANJA

    The block model in a homogenous environment can generally serve for presentation of some geological models: changes of facies, changes of rock compactness-fragmentation, underground cavities, bauxite deposits, etc. Therefore, on the block model of increased resistivities in a homogenous environment of low resistivity, the potentials of the electrical tomography method were tested for the purpose of their detection. Regarding potentials of block detection, resolution methods depend on: depth of block location, ratio between block resistivity and the environment in which it is located as well as applied survey geometry, i.e. electrode array. Thus the analyses carried out for the most frequently used electrode arrays in the investigations are the following: the Wenner, Wenner-Schlumberger, dipole-dipole and pole-pole arrays. For each array, maximum depths at which a block can be detected relative to the ratio between block resistivity and parent rock environment were analyzed. The results are shown in the two-dimensional graphs, where the ratio between the block resistivity and the environment is shown on the X-axis, and the resolution depth on the Y-axis, after which the curves defining the resolution limits were drawn. These graphs have a practical use, since they enable a fast, simple determination of potentials of the method application on a specific geological model.Model bloka u homogenoj sredini općenito može poslužiti za predočavanje nekih geoloških modela: promjena facijesa, promjena kompaktnosti-raspucanosti stijena, podzemnih šupljina, ležišta boksita i dr. Zato su na modelu bloka povišenih otpornosti u homogenoj sredini niskih otpornosti ispitane mogućnosti metode električne tomografije u njihovom otkrivanju. Mogućnost otkrivanja bloka, rezolucija metode ovisi o: dubini smještaja bloka, omjeru otpornosti bloka i sredine u kojoj se nalazi i primijenjenoj geometriji snimanja, to jest elektrodnom rasporedu. Zato su analize načinjene za najčešće korištene elektrodne rasporede u istraživanjima: Wennerov, Wenner-Schlumbergerov, dipolni i dvoelektrodni. Za svaki raspored analizirane su maksimalne dubine na kojima se može otkriti blok u ovisnosti o omjeru otpornosti bloka i matične sredine. Rezultati su prikazani na dvodimenzionalnim grafovima gdje se na apscisi nalazi omjer otpornosti bloka i sredine, a na ordinati maksimalna dubina razlučivosti, pa su izvučene krivulje koje definiraju granice razlučivosti. Ovi grafovi imaju praktičnu primjenu, jer omogućuju vrlo brzo i jednostavno određivanje mogućnosti primjene metode na određenom geološkom modelu

    Debljina je bolest koja će nestati jedino svjesnom i pametnom intervencijom. Iako ova bolest nastaje spontano i uzrokovana je vanjskim čimbenicima, ona ipak neće spontano i nestati. Za uspješno rješenje problema nužna je edukacija samih liječnika i osoba s prekomjernom tjelesnom težinom, a zbog podcijenjene uloge tjelesne aktivnosti treba upražnjavati sve oblike kretanja, samo su neki od zaključaka sa okruglog stola na temu \u27\u27Utjecaj mozga na povećanje tjelesne mase\u27\u27 održanog na Tribini Grada Zagreba 8. prosinca ove godine. Okrugli stol pod pokroviteljstvom Ministarstva zdravstva i socijalne skrbi organizirala je Udruga za prevenciju prekomjerne težine u suorganizaciji sa Gradskim uredom za zdravstvo i branitelje, Hrvatskim društvom za debljinu, HLZ-om i Koalicijom udruga u zdravstvu. Ovaj okrugli stol samo je početak niza aktivnosti koje će navedeni suorganizatori i brojni suradnici poduzimati u sljedećem trogodišnjem razdoblju prema Akcijskom planu za prevenciju i smanjenje prekomjerne tjelesne težine za razdoblje od 2010. do 2012. godine Ministarstva zdravstva i socijalne skrbi RH

    Nužnost edukacije u svim segmentima društva javnog i privatnog sektora glede problema debljine, te suviše podcijenjena uloga tjelesne aktivnosti zbog čega ciljanom edukacijom treba pojačati interes i osigurati metode, kao i prostor za provedbu aktivnosti za sve uzraste, samo su neki od zaključaka sa nedavno održanog okruglog stola na Tribini Grada Zagreba na temu „Debljina - ozbiljan društveni problem“ u organizaciji Udruge za prevenciju prekomjerne težine. Osim toga, nakon diskusije nazočni su se složili da su uvedene smjernice u dječjim vrtićima odličan primjer za promjene u školama a potreban je angažman kako društvenog, tako i privatnog sektora. Uočena je razlika od predškolskog (dobar primjer u praksi) odgoja i školskog odgoja (preporuka za sustavne promjene). Prof. dr.sc. Mirko Koršić, FRCP, te predsjednik Hrvatskog društva za debljinu HLZ-a je istaknuo kako je debljina itekako ozbiljan javnozdravstveni problem jer je svaki drugi stanovnik debeo, a od ranije pretile osobe postaju još deblje. Dakle, debljina u svijetu poprima epidemiološke razmjere a puno bolja nije ni situacija u Hrvatskoj

    The Effects of Fulvic Acid on Established Streptococcus mutans Biofilm Formation and Human Gingival Fibroblast Cells

    poster abstractShilajit is a traditional medicine used in Asian countries for centuries to treat numerous health conditions, including bone/cartilage repair and regeneration. Prior research suggests that a major active component of shilajit- fulvic acid- may reduce bacteria in the oral cavity, as in a mouth wash. Because shilajit stimulates connective tissue repair and fulvic acid may inhibit bacteria, the effect of fulvic acid on the caries-forming biofilm bacterium, Streptococcus mutans, and on gingival fibroblast cells, which mediate connective tissue in repair/regeneration in periodontal disease, was examined. The goal of this research was to determine whether repeated short-term applications of fulvic acid to S. mutans biofilm reduced the amount of established bacteria and to find the concentration of fulvic acid that may inhibit gingival fibroblast cell growth. In the bacterial study, S. mutans biofilm was grown, and 8 different dilutions of fulvic acid were applied to the same biofilm groups for 10 minutes each day over a 3-day period. Upon crystal violet staining, the optical density (OD) of the wells was obtained using a spectrophotometer. Higher concentrations of fulvic acid demonstrated stronger inhibition on S. mutans biofilm formation. 0.04% repeated applications of fulvic acid resulted in a 2-fold decrease in S. mutans biofilm formation, which is not observed with a single application. In the gingival fibroblast cell study, cell toxicity and proliferation were examined utilizing LDH and WST-1 assays, respectively. It was determined that an 0.5% solution of fulvic acid had no effects on cell variability and proliferation. This concentration will be used to examine the effect of fulvic acid on the expression of matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) from gingival fibroblasts, since the MMPs are involved in tissue degradation and repair. This study demonstrates that fulvic acid has significant antibacterial effects and may be safe for oral use up to a certain concentration

    Timidity of dogs as a symptom of hypothyroidism

    Na osnovi pretrage psa utvrđeno je da boluje od neuroloških manifestacija poput promjena ponašanja, i to od plašljivosti do bezrazložne agresije. Kliničkim i laboratorijskim nalazima nije utvrđen razlog neuroloških manifestacija, ali je poznato da ih hipofunkcija štitne žljezde može uzrokovati. Radom su opisane utvrđene neurološke manifestacije. Da bi se to provjerilo, primijenjen je dijagnostički terapijski postupak te je dan levotiroksinatrij. Nakon njegove primjene izgubile su se neurološke manifestacije u psa, čime je dokazano da su one bile uzrokovane hipotireoidizmom. Rezultat postupka dokazao je da se neurološke manifestacije u pasa mogu suprimirati i kontrolirati adekvatnom primjenom lijeka.On the basis of examination of a dog, it was found that the dog suffered from neurological manifestations in the form of a changeable behaviour - from timidity to groundless aggression. Clinical and laboratory reports failed to find the cause of the neurological manifestation, although it is known that hypo function of the thyroid gland may be the cause. This paper describes the neurological manifestations determined. Diagnostic therapy was applied to verify this whereby levothyroxine sodium was applied. After application of levothyroxine sodium, the previous neurological manifestations in the dog were lost. This proves that the neurological manifestations in the patient were caused by hypothyroidism. The result of this procedure proved that neurological manifestations in dogs may be suppressed and controlled by the application of an adequate remedy
