    An CFRP fabrics as internal reinforcement in concrete beams

    This paper presents preliminary results of an experimental programme that investigated mechanical properties of a balanced-symmetric CFRP fabric laminate. Although FRP fabrics have potential to be formed into efficient reinforcement systems that can enable the development of innovative low embodied energy concrete structures, very little research on applications of FRP fabrics has been reported in the literature. In accordance with the classical laminate theory, in a balanced-symmetric laminate there is no coupling between in-plane deformation and curvature, nor between in-plane normal loading and shear deformation.     Une contusion du globe peut se compliquer de rupture de la membrane de Bruch ou de la choroïde. Cette complication est observée dans 5 à 10% des cas avec une nette prédominance masculine. Nous rapportons l'observation clinique d'un patient de 26 ans, victime d'un traumatisme contusif sévÚre de l'oeil gauche chez qui l'examen retrouve une rupture de la membrane de bruch au fond d'oeil ; l'evolution spontanné a été marquée parune amélioration visuelle sans complications néovasculaires. Au cours des ruptures post traumatiques de la membrane de bruch le pronostic est essentiellement lié d'une part à sa localisation par rapport à la macula; et d'autre part à la survenue de complications néovasculaires (15 à 30 %des cas)

    Optimising Subsidiary Crop Applications in Rotations (OSCAR): A Perspective for the North Africa Region

    Background: For sustainable improvement of wheat-based farming systems in the North Africa, there is a need to improve plant health, soil health and fertility. One approach to achieve this is by integrating subsidiary crops (SC) as living or dead mulches or cover crops with the main crops in rotations, which will increase plant species and microbial diversity and reducing water demand in dry climates. Methods: A collaborative research project funded by EU FP 7 (Project No. 289277) was initiated in April 2012, in partnership with European Union (public research organizations and private sector small and medium enterprises of Germany, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, the Netherland, UK, Poland, Switzerland and Italy), Brazil and Morocco (INRA-Morocco and ICARDA), in order to enhance understanding and use of SC systems, develop suitable farm technologies, increase the range of SC species, and enhance understanding of impact of SC on soil ecology, biology and microbial diversity and crop pests and diseases. Results: Based on two field experiments in Morocco (Sidi AI-Aidi and Sidi Allal-Tazi), the project will assess the economic and ecological impact including legume root health and soil health, fertility and microbial diversity and compare the results with other sites in Europe. Screening of new species and genotypes will result in identification of range of potentially useful plant species for SC for the North Africa and Europe. The identified SC species will be tested for their potential as forage and for extraction of useful biochemicals. Conclusion: The results of the project as a whole will be of use for and improve sustainability in low-input, organic, and conventional farming systems in the North Africa, Latin America and Europe

    Isolated palmar dislocation of the fifth carpometacarpal joint is an uncommon injury and classified as radio-palmar or ulno-palmar according to the direction of displacement of the fifth metacarpal base .     Gestational Sac Aspiration of Heterotopic Ectopic Pregnancy in a Cesarean Section Scar

    Background: This article describes a case of heterotopic pregnancy that included a normal twin intrauterine pregnancy and one cesarean section (CS) scar pregnancy diagnosed at 6 weeks of gestation. Ultrasound-guided aspiration of the ectopic gestational sac was performed, and the concurrent twin intrauterine pregnancy (IUP) was preserved successfully. The patient was a 50-year-old woman with secondary infertility. Case: The patient underwent in vitro fertilization and embryo transfer using a donor-egg program to achieve pregnancy with her current partner. At 6-weeks' gestation, she underwent a transvaginal ultrasound scan (US) examination showing a viable twin IUP with a third gestational sac with viable embryo located low within the anterior wall of the uterus. The appearance was consistent with a cesarean scar ectopic pregnancy. This was confirmed on a subsequent US 1 week later. She desired to continue the intrauterine pregnancy. US-guided aspiration of the cesarean scar ectopic pregnancy was attempted. The treatment was successful. Results: The twin pregnancy progressed without further complications. Conclusions: Heterotopic CS ectopic pregnancy can be successfully treated with transvaginal US-guided aspiration.     Introduction: Les mĂ©decins d'urgence reçoivent frĂ©quemment des patients atteints d'une pathologie de la thyroĂŻde. Cependant, il est rare que ces troubles mettent la vie du patient en danger. La compression des voies aĂ©riennes supĂ©rieures due Ă  une augmentation du volume d'une tumeur bĂ©nigne de la thyroĂŻde et peut nĂ©cessiter un traitement chirurgical urgent.But: rappeler les modalitĂ©s de prise en charge d'un goitre chez une femme enceinte.Observation: nous rapportons un cas d'une femme enceinte qui a Ă©tĂ© admise pour un goitre compressif avec dyspnĂ©e laryngĂ©e, qui exigeait une thyroĂŻdectomie totale en urgence.Conclusion: La thyroĂŻdectomie urgente chez la femme enceinte peut ĂȘtre rĂ©alisĂ©e si on respecte les prĂ©cautions nĂ©cessaires.Mots clĂ©s: goitre, grossesse, thyroĂŻdectomie.Introduction: emergency physicians frequently encounter patients with thyroid disease. However, it is unusual for these thyroid disorders to create acute, life-threatening situations. Critical airway compression attributable to benign thyroid enlargement may occur suddenly and require urgent treatement.Aim: we recall making procedures in charge of a goiter in pregnant women.Case -report : We report a case of pregnant women who was admitted for compressive goiter with laryngeal dyspnea, which required emergency total thyroidectomy.Conclusion: Urgent thyroidectomy in pregnant women can be performed if we respect the precautions.Keywords: goiter, pregnancy, thyroidectomy

    Towards identification of novel legume species of potential interest as cover crops and living mulches for the North Africa region.

    Subsidiary crops (SC) grown either as cover crops (CC) preceding or following the main crops, or as living mulches (LM) together with the main crops can deliver multiple ecological services within farming systems. These include increasing the duration of soil cover in the rotation, increasing plant and microbial diversity, improving plant health, soil health and fertility, minimizing the use of tillage and agrochemicals, enhancing biological N fixation and soil C content, and reducing water demand in dry climates. However, species available for growing as SC for dry areas are limited. To identify species of potential interest to CC and LM, we screened 197 accessions from the ICARDA genebank, belonging to 142 species/sub-species at Rabat, Morocco in one square meter plots. The preliminary assessments based on visual observations enabled us to identify: (1) 21 accessions belonging to Medicago and Trifolium species with prostrate growth habit, early maturity and senescence, determinate growth cycle and good potential for seed production, as potentially suitable for LM; and (2) 28 accessions belonging to Vicia, Lathyrus, Medicago and Trifolium species with high biomass and competitive ability, and also good potential for seed production, as potentially suitable for CC or green manure crops.     Achievement high level goals in E-learning with comprehensive feedback; (Standards and Criteria)

    Background and Objective:The separation of learner and teacher from each other in e-learning, has made feedback as the most important challenge in this type of learning. Despite, there is no comprehensive framework based on the science of education, so that how to create educational feedback based on learning objectives. The purpose of this study was to compilation the educational standards and their indicators based on the Bloom- Methods: Anderson’s taxonomy for design effective and on time feedback for any educational goal. Qualitative research approach is used and based this approach, the phenomenological design strategy has been used. The population included 12 persons of subject matter and faculty member in academic e-learning centers which were selected through purposeful sampling. Those individuals included in the sample who had three characteristics: a) academic education in e-learning, b) teaching in higher education in the faculties of educational sciences, and c) working in e-learning centers of universities and educational institutions. To gather data semi-structured interviews were used. Qualitative data generated from interviews were coded and analysis by Corbin and Strauss method and Maxquda software. Findings: The results of the study led to the development of 4 educational standards and 25 indicators based on the Bloom-Anderson’s taxonomy to design a comprehensive feedback in the field of e-learning. According to the results of this study, educational technologists can evaluate or design more effective e-learning environments. Conclusion: Overall, feedback plays a key role in e-learning process that can pave the way for identifying problems in the teaching-learning process and proposing improvements to these challenges. However, timing of the feedback is critical. Lack of time shows that the potential benefits of feedback are often not achieved, and instructors are often unable to provide feedback tailored to educational conditions and goals. The results of this study can provide appropriate design and presenting of the feedback with the aim of learning and effective use of educational technologies at the right time. In this regard it can help designers of e-learning environments in a way that the right time to provide feedback is not wasted and always provide feedback at the right time and in the right way. Based on the results of the research, evaluators and administrators of e-learning environments can use the e-learning evaluation form of the paper prepared based on the standards and criteria in a Likert scale to evaluate the feedback method of e-learning instructors.   ===================================================================================== COPYRIGHTS  ©2020 The author(s).     Numerical Study of the Bond Strength Evolution of Corroded Reinforcement in Concrete in Pull‐Out Tests

    The corrosion of rebars in reinforced concrete structures impacts their geometry (diameter and ribs) and mass, damages the concrete at the interface between the two materials, deteriorates the bond strength, and causes the cracking of the concrete cover. In the following study, a 2D numerical model of the pull‐out test is presented in order to study the impact of corrosion on the bond strength. Several parameters are investigated: the embedment depth, the rebar’s diameter, and the width of the concrete cover. The model reproduces the slip of the rebar and the failure through the splitting of concrete. It integrates an interface between the two materials and a concrete damage model that simulate the deterioration of concrete in compression and tension. The results obtained are validated with experimental data from the literature. Moreover, a parametric study is carried out to determine the impact of the embedment depth, the diameter of the rebar, and the concrete cover on the bond strength. The present study confirms that a greater embedment depth increases the pulling load. The study also confirms that the rebar’s diameter impacts highly the loss of bond between the rebar and the concrete cover. Lastly, the final main result of this paper is that the width of the concrete cover slows the loss of bond strength between the two materials

    VHDL-AMS modeling and simulation of a direct sequence spread spectrum (DS-SS) transmitter

    Many recent standards in telecommunications field are based on CDMA spread spectrum transmissions. In this paper, we describe a methodology for top-down design, modeling, and simulation of CDMA transmitter system using hardware description language VHDL-AMS. Details of VHDL-AMS implementation for each elementary block are shown. This paper together with the developed library of CDMA transmitter blocks are targeted towards engineers who work on behavioral modeling and simulation of complete CDMA systems using hardware description languages
