SET based experiments for HTSC materials: II
The cuprates seem to exhibit statistics, dimensionality and phase transitions
in novel ways. The nature of excitations
[i.e. quasiparticle or collective], spin-charge separation, stripes [static
and dynamics], inhomogeneities, psuedogap, effect of impurity dopings [e.g. Zn,
Ni] and any other phenomenon in these materials must be consistently
understood. In this note we further discuss our original suggestion of using
Single Electron Tunneling Transistor
[SET] based experiments to understand the role of charge dynamics in these
systems. Assuming that SET operates as an efficient charge detection system we
can expect to understand the underlying physics of charge transport and charge
fluctuations in these materials for a range of doping. Experiments such as
these can be classed in a general sense as mesoscopic and nano characterization
of cuprates and related materials. In principle such experiments can show if
electron is fractionalized in cuprates as indicated by ARPES data. In contrast
to flux trapping experiments SET based experiments are more direct in providing
evidence about spin-charge separation. In addition a detailed picture of nano
charge dynamics in cuprates may be obtained.Comment: 10 pages revtex plus four figures; ICMAT 2001 Conference Symposium P:

Lattice thermal conductivity of disordered binary alloys : a formulation
We present here a formulation for the calculation of the configuration
averaged lattice thermal conductivity in random alloys. Our formulation is
based on the augmented-space theorem, introduced by one of us, combined with a
generalized diagrammatic technique. The diagrammatic approach simplifies the
problem of including effects of disorder corrections to a great extent. The
approach allows us to obtain an expression for the effective heat current in
case of disordered alloys, which in turn is used in a Kubo-Greenwood type
formula for the thermal conductivity. We show that disorder scattering
renormalizes the phonon propagators as well as the heat currents. The
corrections to the current terms have been shown to be related to the
self-energy of the propagators. We also study the effect of vertex corrections
in a simplified ladder diagram approximation. A mode dependent diffusivity
and then a total thermal diffusivity averaged over different modes
are defined. Schemes for implementing the said formalism are discussed. A few
initial numerical results on the frequency and temperature dependence of
lattice thermal conductivity are presented for NiPd alloy and are also compared
with experiment. We also display numerical results on the frequency dependence
of thermal diffusivity averaged over modes.Comment: 16 pages, 17 figure
Interplay of chemical pressure and hydrogen insertion effects in from first principles
Investigations within the local spin density functional theory (LSDF) of the
intermetallic hydride system were carried out for discrete
model compositions in the range . The aim of this
study is to assess the change of the cerium valence state in the neighborhood
of the experimental hydride composition, . In agreement
with experiment, the analyses of the electronic and magnetic structures and of
the chemical bonding properties point to trivalent cerium for . In contrast, for lower hydrogen amounts the hydride system stays in an
intermediate-valent state for cerium, like in . The influence
of the insertion of hydrogen is addressed from both the volume expansion and
chemical bonding effects. The latter are found to have the main influence on
the change of Ce valence character. Spin polarized calculations point to a
finite magnetic moment carried by the Ce states; its magnitude increases
with in the range
Implikasi Revisi Undang-Undang Nomor 7 Tahun 1989 Tentang Peradilan Agama Dan Langkah Strategis Bagi Praktisi Hukum Pengadilan Agama
The Act No. 3 year 2006 revising toward The Act No. 7 year 1989 concerning the religious (Islamic) court constitutes recent development after one roof system of court in Indonesia. Revising the Act No. 7 year 1989 departs from Indonesian senate proposes and initiates. This revising actually implies human resources and human assessment of the religious court in Indonesia. The Religious court faces new jurisdiction, budget, education and training effectively, preparing syari\u27ah graduation, law resources, experts of economics law, those of Islamic economics including the banking world and the Syari\u27ah economics generally. Thus, it needs revitalizing the curricullum of Syari\u27ah economics either Strata 1 or graduation program (S2) in preparing human resources and human assessment of religious court in Indonesia
Can Heavy WIMPs Be Captured by the Earth?
If weakly interacting massive particles (WIMPs) in bound solar orbits are
systematically driven into the Sun by solar-system resonances (as Farinella et
al. have shown is the case for many Earth-crossing asteroids), then the capture
of high-mass WIMPs by the Earth would be affected dramatically because
high-mass WIMPs are captured primarily from bound orbits. WIMP capture would be
eliminated for M_x>630 GeV and would be highly suppressed for M_x>~150 GeV.
Annihilation of captured WIMPs and anti-WIMPs is expected to give rise to
neutrinos coming from the Earth's center. The absence of such a neutrino signal
has been used to place limits on WIMP parameters. At present, one does not know
if typical WIMP orbits are in fact affected by these resonances. Until this
question is investigated and resolved, one must (conservatively) assume that
they are. Hence, limits on high-mass WIMP parameters are significantly weaker
than previously believed.Comment: 8 pages + 1 figure. Submitted to Ap
The factors of selecting Malaysia as tourist destination
Tourism is an emerging economic sector for Malaysia. The purpose of this study is an attempt to understand the factors that attract tourists to visit Melaka State of Malaysia. The primary data were collected through questionnaire survey on 735 tourists who visited the state of Melaka, Malaysia. This study used descriptive statistics, confirmatory factor analysis, and structural equation modelling (SEM) in order to analyze and draw the inferences.Model fit was initially tested using the overall fit and regression paths. Then the hypothesized model was analysed and modified based on the results of the analysis to find a better fit of the data and to more adequately describe the relationships between the factors. The study found that several economic, environmental, cultural and community factors have positive significant influence in attracting tourists to Melaka
