Building Public Library Collection in India: A Study of Book and Non-book Material

    Get PDF
India is the second most populous country in the world. It has 29 states and 7 union territories. The state of West Bengal with nineteen districts has a well-established public library system. The present study covers the district of Murshidabad which has 160 public libraries, in total. Significantly, three categories of public libraries namely rural library, town/sub-division library and district library exists in whole district. Covering 21 public libraries with representation of all categories of libraries, the present work aims to study the collection development of material. Data for the present study has been collected through well-structured questionnaire. Study also highlights the various aspects which contributed in building collection in studied libraries. Precisely, these are donation from Member of Legislative Assembly, donation from Raja Rammohan Roy Library Foundation, complimentary copies from the authors, etc. Findings suggest that no-uniform growth has been witnessed in surveyed libraries

Curriculum Framework of Library and Information Science Education In the United States, the United Kingdom and India

In the present study researchers have made an analysis of the courses offered by the Schools of Library and Information Science in the United States. An effort is also made to compare the curriculum of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Syracuse University and University of Washington is compared with that of American Library Association’s (ALA) Core Competencies. Most of the core courses recommended by ALA were covered in the courses of the curriculum followed at the library and information schools. Furthermore, the comparison of the core curriculum is made with the curriculum recommended by the American Library Association in United States, Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals (CILIP) in United Kingdom and University Grants Commission (UGC), India

Cyclic Kite Configuration with Variable Mass of the Fifth Body in R5BP

This paper presents a numerical investigation on some characteristics and parameters related to the motion of an infinitesimal body with variable mass in five-body problem. The other four bodies are considered as primaries. The whole system forms a cyclic kite configuration and moves on a circle, the center of which is taken as the origin. We assume that the motion of the fifth infinitesimal body is affected by the other components of the system but it has no effect on their behavior. We started by setting the equations of motion of the fifth body by using Jeans’ law and Meshcherskii’s space-time transformations. Further, we determined numerically, using Mathematica software, the positions of Lagrangian points and basins of attraction in various planes. Finally, we investigated the linear stability of the Lagrangian points and noticed that all the Lagrangian points are unstable

ABSTRACT The new 1, 2, 3, selenadiazole derivative (3) was prepared from friedelin (1) via the co"esponding semicarbazone (2) using Lalezari cyclization. The compounds were prepared, separated and characterized on the basis of microanalysis and spectral studies. The isolated friedelin and its selenadiazole were screened in vitro for their antimicrobial activities against various pathogenic bacterial were found to be highly active against al/ the selected pathogens. Compound 3 showed an inhibition zone of 14 mm and 12 mm respectively against highly resistant S. albus and C. albicans. A general mechanistic scheme for these reactions is also suggested based on current and previous results

Numerical investigation of the slope stability under the rainfall infiltration of different intensities and duration using finite element code

    Get PDF
This research presents a numerical analysis using the two-dimensional finite element code, PLAXIS 2D, to explore the impact of rainfall infiltration on slope stability through a fully coupled deformation flow analysis. In the numerical model, the soil is represented as an elastic-perfect plastic material, and its shear strength is modeled using the Mohr-Coulomb model. Using the 2D finite element method, the study explores the combined effects of varying rectilinear slope geometries, soil types, rainfall intensities, and durations on slope stability. Diverse slope configurations with significant variations in slope height and angle were considered. The results imply that the stability of the slope is significantly influenced by both the rainfall intensity and duration. Moreover, the influence of rainfall duration and intensity on slope stability is more pronounced for clayey soil and slopes with a steep angle. The findings of this study will provide guidelines to engineers in assessing the potential risk of slope failure under varying rainfall intensities and durations

Facial Palsy due to Parotid Abscess: An Unusual Complication

    Get PDF
Facial nerve palsy is usually associated with a malignant parotid neoplasm; it is highly unusual for it to result from a benign situation, such as inflammation or infection of the parotid gland. Surgery along with prompt medical treatment is the mainstay, and in the majority of the patients, nerve paralysis recovers in the follow-up period. We report a case of a 50-year-old non-diabetic non-hypertensive female who presented with odynophagia, left-sided parotid swelling, and left facial nerve palsy. The diagnosis of facial nerve palsy due to a parotid abscess extending to the parapharyngeal space was made. Facial palsy fully recovered within 2 months
