Modeling and forecasting population growth of Bangladesh

    Get PDF
Information about the population growth of a country is an important issue that helps keeping the gross domestic product at a standard level without accelerating inflation rate. This is the condition demanded by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and World Bank (WB) for allocating funds for the development of the underdeveloped countries like Bangladesh. The population growth is the main target of Bangladesh government to keep the level of growth at a manageable level. This paper proposes an autoregressive time trend (ARt) model for forecasting population growth of Bangladesh. Using data from 1965 to 2003 and using the proposed ARt model this paper finds a downward population growth for Bangladesh for the extended period up to 2043

Energy Efficient Green Building Based on Geo Cooling System in Sustainable Construction of Malaysia

    Get PDF
This paper is focused to utilize geo energy in cooling of building in tropical country like Malaysia where temperature rises in daytime and goes beyond to a comfortable limit. In daytime inside temperature of the room is considered to be reduced by adding thermal conductivity media inside the room elements such as walls through its connectivity to the underground where temperature is less than the ambient room temperature. Due to the ground connectivity of thermal conductivity media a flow of heat creates from the room to the ground and tries to produce a thermal balance between these two medias and therefore, room temperature drops to a temperature close to the underground soil temperature. Aluminium pipes are considered as high thermal conductivity material. The entire study is done numerically using ANSYS 11 finite element software to determine the role of underground soil and thermal conductivity pipes. In numerical investigation heat flow between two systems (building rooms equipped with thermal conductivity pipe and underground soil) is studied and the performance of the conductivity materials is examined. The room temperature in the presence of thermal conductivity media as well as mechanical cooling system is also investigated in this study. It is seen that high thermal conductivity media plays a role in transferring heat from room to the ground and makes cooling of the building effectively. It acts also effectively when it uses with other mechanical cooling system of building

Does digital financial inclusion matter for bank risk-taking? Evidence from the dual-banking system

    Get PDF
This paper examines the nexus between digital financial inclusion (DFI) and levels of bank risk-taking, using a sample of 283 commercial banks (Islamic and conventional) from six countries over the period 2011 to 2019 and deploying panel-corrected standard errors, two-stage least squares-instrumental variables and dynamic panel two-step generalized method of moments estimators. The findings suggest that Islamic banks take more risks than their counterpart conventional banks. The empirical evidence also indicates that an increase in the DFI index score reduces the overall level of bank risktaking and increases that of banking stability for commercial and conventional banks compared to Islamic ones. A strong association between DFI and bank risk-taking suggests that DFI not only reduces the default risk, leverage risk and portfolio risk of banks, but also increases financial mobility in the sample countries. Consequently, an inclusive digitalised banking industry ensures sustainable economic growth, which is likely to help maintain financial sustainability in times of crisis such as the Covid-19 pandemic. Our results are shown to be robust by various robustness checks. The study contributes to both the Islamic and conventional banking, as well as the digital financial inclusion, literature. The findings of the study provide various policy implications for policymakers and standard-setters in the countries examined

A Computer Control System for Home Appliances

    Get PDF
In this paper, we present a system to control home appliances from a computer. The system is designed for controlling the ON/OFF mode of different home appliances such as light, fan, TV, air-condition and so on. The appliances are connected to a computer through a programmed PIC16F73 microcontroller. An USB interface is used to connect the microcontroller with a computer. The program for the PIC16F73 has been written in micro C language. All the commands are carried out from a software layout running on a computer to control the home appliances

SynthEnsemble: A Fusion of CNN, Vision Transformer, and Hybrid Models for Multi-Label Chest X-Ray Classification

Chest X-rays are widely used to diagnose thoracic diseases, but the lack of detailed information about these abnormalities makes it challenging to develop accurate automated diagnosis systems, which is crucial for early detection and effective treatment. To address this challenge, we employed deep learning techniques to identify patterns in chest X-rays that correspond to different diseases. We conducted experiments on the "ChestX-ray14" dataset using various pre-trained CNNs, transformers, hybrid(CNN+Transformer) models and classical models. The best individual model was the CoAtNet, which achieved an area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUROC) of 84.2%. By combining the predictions of all trained models using a weighted average ensemble where the weight of each model was determined using differential evolution, we further improved the AUROC to 85.4%, outperforming other state-of-the-art methods in this field. Our findings demonstrate the potential of deep learning techniques, particularly ensemble deep learning, for improving the accuracy of automatic diagnosis of thoracic diseases from chest X-rays.Comment: Accepted in International Conference on Computer and Information Technology (ICCIT) 202

Multi-modal Hate Speech Detection using Machine Learning

With the continuous growth of internet users and media content, it is very hard to track down hateful speech in audio and video. Converting video or audio into text does not detect hate speech accurately as human sometimes uses hateful words as humorous or pleasant in sense and also uses different voice tones or show different action in the video. The state-ofthe-art hate speech detection models were mostly developed on a single modality. In this research, a combined approach of multimodal system has been proposed to detect hate speech from video contents by extracting feature images, feature values extracted from the audio, text and used machine learning and Natural language processing.Comment: 5 pages, 2 figures, conferenc

Effectiveness of Truss Supporting During Replacement of Damaged Column in a High-Rise Frame Structure Building

    Get PDF
Truss supporting (TS) is a technique to support a building frame for replacing column when its stiffness reduces due to any kind of damage. This paper deals about the effectiveness of TS during replacement of damaged column in a high-rise frame structure building. For the case study of the effectiveness of TS, six columns that are damaged columns at different positions in the ground and first floors were taken into consideration. A suitable type of truss was modelled to transfer the load of damaged column to the lower column just below the damaged column. The numerical analysis of the 2-D frame with undamaged columns, damaged column and damaged column with truss supporting, was carried out using finite element software STAAD Pro 2004. The deflection, axial force, shear force and bending moment of the structural elements (beam & column) for TS case were obtained almost same as their design value
