    Social Problems Facing Poor Women: A Study on Women Benefiting from the Aid Fund in the Ruwaished Area

    The study aimed to identify the social problems facing poor women related to themselves, their family, society and gender, and the extent of variation in the answers according to social and economic characteristics. Al-Ruwaished area is considered one of the poorest regions according to government studies of poverty pockets in Jordan, and they numbered (164) women according to the records of the National Aid Fund for the year 2019 and the descriptive statistics (percentages) were used and an analysis was used. Multiple Analysis of Variance (MANOVA test) variation.     An Interactive Automation for Human Biliary Tree Diagnosis Using Computer Vision

    The biliary tree is a network of tubes that connects the liver to the gallbladder, an organ right beneath it. The bile duct is the major tube in the biliary tree. The dilatation of a bile duct is a key indicator for more major problems in the human body, such as stones and tumors, which are frequently caused by the pancreas or the papilla of vater. The detection of bile duct dilatation can be challenging for beginner or untrained medical personnel in many circumstances. Even professionals are unable to detect bile duct dilatation with the naked eye. This research presents a unique vision-based model for biliary tree initial diagnosis. To segment the biliary tree from the Magnetic Resonance Image, the framework used different image processing approaches (MRI). After the image’s region of interest was segmented, numerous calculations were performed on it to extract 10 features, including major and minor axes, bile duct area, biliary tree area, compactness, and some textural features (contrast, mean, variance and correlation). This study used a database of images from King Hussein Medical Center in Amman, Jordan, which included 200 MRI images, 100 normal cases, and 100 patients with dilated bile ducts. After the characteristics are extracted, various classifiers are used to determine the patients’ condition in terms of their health (normal or dilated). The findings demonstrate that the extracted features perform well with all classifiers in terms of accuracy and area under the curve. This study is unique in that it uses an automated approach to segment the biliary tree from MRI images, as well as scientifically correlating retrieved features with biliary tree status that has never been done before in the literature

    Obstacles of applying electronic administration in school administration from the point of view of Jordanian school principals

    The article aimed to identify the obstacles of implementing electronic administration in school administration from the point of view of Jordanian school principals. To achieve this goal, the descriptive-analytical approach with its qualitative content was used, as interviews were conducted with 20 principals in the schools of the North Eastern Badia District of the Directorate of Education in Jordan. The results showed that the most important obstacle to the application of electronic administration in school administration is the difficulty of solving technical problems faced by the school administration, the lack of sufficient awareness among teachers of electronic culture and the importance of electronic administration applications in school administration, the lack of classrooms containing the necessary electronic devices, and the lack of Funding and infrastructure that result in the inability to provide computer accessories and the lack of trained human cadres to apply electronic management in school administration. In light of the results that have been reached, it was recommended to emphasize the need to emphasize the training of principals in particular, and teachers in general, on the use of electronic management in administrative schoolwork, and to prepare a guide for the concept of electronic management, its objectives, and its fields in schoolwork, as this contributes to spreading a greater culture of management

    Evaluating quality of the distance learning outputs during the Corona pandemic from the point of view of parents of Jordanian public-school students

    The study aimed at identifying the evaluation of the quality of the outputs of the distance learning process from the point of view of parents of primary school students in Jordanian public schools, by identifying the areas (academic achievement, social influences, and technical factor). The study used the descriptive analytical approach, the study\u27s questionnaire was applied to a sample of parents of students in primary stage in Jordanian public schools in the Amman for the academic year 2020/2021. The sample consisted of (691) male and female students. The study concluded that the field of impact of the distance learning process on the academic achievement of Jordanian public-school students came at the low average, while the field of social impacts of the distance learning process on students came at the medium average. While the field of the role of the technical factor in students’ follow-up to their lessons at a medium average. The study also found that there were statistically significant differences at the significance level (0.05) in (the field of social influences, the field of technical factor, and overall measurement) due to the gender variable, in favour to females, as well as there were statistically significant differences at the significance level (0.05) in (the field of academic achievement, the field of social influences, the field of technical factor, and the overall measurement) due to the educational qualification, in favour to high studies variable, and there were no statistically significant differences at the significance level (0.05) in evaluating the outcomes of the distance learning process due to the variable number of children in schools.     Evaluation Method for SDN Network Effectiveness in Next Generation Cellular Networks

    5G mobile technology will become the new revolution in the mobile communication market. The new networks will focus on significantly improving the quality of service. The basis for their construction will form SDN networks. Therefore, the work analyzed the advantages and disadvantages of two SDN implementing methods. It was developed mathematical method to assess their complex effectiveness, which consider QoS requirements of implementing service through special weights for scalability, performance and packet delay. There were simulations of Overlay networks by using softswitches to verify the adequacy of the proposed method. The results showed that the use of SDN networks more efficiently by using IP networks for large volumes of traffic and with a large number of network equipment. Also, there were compared the approaches to build SDN management level architecture. Based on the studies and modeling we suggested to use distributed controller architecture because of its higher level of reliability

    The present paper is focused on the problem of teaching foreign students such disciplines as "Country studies" and "History of Russia", which appear to be compulsory for the international students, getting higher education in Russia. Studying these disciplines, students meet some difficulties due to various reasons, beginning with poor knowledge of Russian language and ending with ethical problems. A lecturer needs to cross this socio-cultural and linguistic barrier and find solutions in order to give the full information in accordance with the educational working program. The research has an applied character. It is based on the sociological survey conducted among the foreign students of National Research Tomsk Polytechnic University.     Symptomatic dry eye disease among university students

    Background: Dry eye disease (DED) is a multifactorial condition often characterized by a reduction in tear film quantity or quality. This study aimed to determine the frequency of DED and its associated subjective symptoms among students of Mu’tah University. Methods: In this cross-sectional study conducted at Mu’tah University, Mu’tah, Jordan, from January to April 2022, 489 students completed an online patient-reported DED symptom questionnaire and the ocular surface disease index (OSDI) questionnaire. Moreover, 106 participants underwent clinical examinations using the Schirmer test I and fluorescein tear breakup time (TBUT). Results: Approximately 74.6% of the students self-reported experiencing DED symptoms, and 72.6% had an OSDI score > 12, which is considered the threshold for an abnormal ocular surface. Clinical examinations revealed low Schirmer test scores (< 10 mm) in 26.4% (n = 28) and 25.5% (n = 27) of the right and left eyes, respectively. We observed low TBUT scores (< 5 s) in 19.8% (n = 21) and 18.9% (n = 20) of the right and left eyes, respectively. We noted significant differences between the self-reported DED symptoms and the Schirmer test scores (P = 0.003 for both right and left eyes), TBUT (P < 0.001 for both right and left eyes), and OSDI score (P < 0.001 for each self-reported DED symptom). We observed a weak significant positive correlation between Schirmer test scores and TBUT in the right (r = + 0.30; P = 0.002) and left (r = + 0.34; P < 0.001) eyes; a negligible significant inverse correlation between OSDI scores and Schirmer test scores in the right (r = - 0.24; P = 0.013) and left (r = - 0.23; P = 0.019) eyes; and a negligible significant inverse correlation between the OSDI score and TBUT of the left eye (r = - 0.25; P = 0.011) but not of the right eye (r = - 0.17; P = 0.077). Conclusions: The frequency of DED symptoms in this study was higher than that previously reported based on foreign statistics. The presence of self-reported DED symptoms was significantly associated with higher OSDI scores. Self-reported DED symptoms were more frequent than the abnormalities detected using objective methods. Therefore, a combination of subjective and objective measures may provide a higher diagnostic yield for DED. Further studies are required to confirm this hypothesis

    Transformational leadership and job involvement in the Middle East: the moderating role of individually held cultural values

    This study examines whether individually held cultural values moderate the relationship between transformational leadership behavior of supervisors and the job involvement of subordinates in the Middle Eastern organizational context. Hierarchical regression analysis was used to analyze survey data from 229 employees of 10 organizations in the United Arab Emirates. In line with the findings of studies in Western countries, transformational leadership was found to influence job involvement positively. In addition, the cultural value orientations of individuals were found to moderate this relationship. Collectivism positively influenced the relationship between transformational leadership and job involvement, whereas uncertainty avoidance had a negative effect. These findings provide an insight into how transformational leadership may be used to motivate culturally diverse groups of employees within the Middle East. To enhance job involvement, organizations need to realize that the attitudinal response of subordinates to transformational leadership can depend on their cultural values. This has significant implications regarding the training and effective deployment of transformational leaders within Middle Eastern organizations

    Mechanisms of confluence-dependent expression of CD26 in colon cancer cell lines

    <p>Abstract</p> <p>Background</p> <p>CD26 (dipeptidyl peptidase IV, DPPIV) is a 110 kDa surface glycoprotein expressed in most normal tissues, and is a potential novel therapeutic target for selected cancers. Our work evaluates the mechanism involved in confluence-dependent CD26 expression in colon cancer.</p> <p>Methods</p> <p>Colon adenocarcinoma cells were grown to confluence, and expression of CD26 and transcription factors implicated in its regulation was confirmed by immunofluorescence and Western blotting. Real-time PCR was also performed to evaluate CD26 upregulation at the transcriptional level. The influence of c-Myc on CD26 expression during different growth conditions was further evaluated following transient transfection of a c-Myc-expressing plasmid and a c-Myc specific siRNA.</p> <p>Results</p> <p>We found that the colon cancer cell lines HCT-116 and HCT-15 exhibited a confluence-dependent increase in CD26 mRNA and protein, associated with decreased expression of c-Myc, increased USF-1 and Cdx 2 levels, and unchanged HNF-1α expression. Meanwhile, ectopic expression of c-Myc in both cell lines led to decreased CD26 expression. In contrast, transfection of a siRNA targeted to Cdx2 resulted in decreased CD26 level. Importantly, culturing of cells in serum-depleted media, but not acidic conditions, upregulated CD26. While HIF-1α level also increased when cells were cultured in serum-depleted media, its expression was required but not sufficient for CD26 upregulation.</p> <p>Conclusions</p> <p>CD26 mRNA and protein levels increase in a confluence-dependent manner in colon carcinoma cell lines, with c-Myc acting as a repressor and Cdx2 acting as an enhancer of CD26 expression. The enhanced expression of CD26 in serum-depleted media and a requirement for HIF-1α suggest a role for nutrients or growth factors in the regulation of CD26 protein expression.</p

    GATA6 Activates Wnt Signaling in Pancreatic Cancer by Negatively Regulating the Wnt Antagonist Dickkopf-1

    Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) is a highly lethal disease characterized by late diagnosis and treatment resistance. Recurrent genetic alterations in defined genes in association with perturbations of developmental cell signaling pathways have been associated with PDAC development and progression. Here, we show that GATA6 contributes to pancreatic carcinogenesis during the temporal progression of pancreatic intraepithelial neoplasia by virtue of Wnt pathway activation. GATA6 is recurrently amplified by both quantitative-PCR and fluorescent in-situ hybridization in human pancreatic intraepithelial neoplasia and in PDAC tissues, and GATA6 copy number is significantly correlated with overall patient survival. Forced overexpression of GATA6 in cancer cell lines enhanced cell proliferation and colony formation in soft agar in vitro and growth in vivo, as well as increased Wnt signaling. By contrast siRNA mediated knockdown of GATA6 led to corresponding decreases in these same parameters. The effects of GATA6 were found to be due to its ability to bind DNA, as forced overexpression of a DNA-binding mutant of GATA6 had no effects on cell growth in vitro or in vivo, nor did they affect Wnt signaling levels in these same cells. A microarray analysis revealed the Wnt antagonist Dickopf-1 (DKK1) as a dysregulated gene in association with GATA6 knockdown, and direct binding of GATA6 to the DKK1 promoter was confirmed by chromatin immunoprecipitation and electrophoretic mobility shift assays. Transient transfection of GATA6, but not mutant GATA6, into cancer cell lines led to decreased DKK1 mRNA expression and secretion of DKK1 protein into culture media. Forced overexpression of DKK1 antagonized the effects of GATA6 on Wnt signaling in pancreatic cancer cells. These findings illustrate that one mechanism by which GATA6 promotes pancreatic carcinogenesis is by virtue of its activation of canonical Wnt signaling via regulation of DKK1
