Impact of Organizational Virtuousness on Workplace Spirituality with the Mediating Role of Perceived Organizational Support

This paper aims to analyze the relationship between organizational virtuousness and workplace spirituality with the mediating role of perceived organizational support. Data was collected from 250 employees working in the telecommunication sector of Pakistan through a questionnaire. Data was analyzed using Hayes’ PROCESS macro (a statistical technique). The study reported a statistically significant relationship between organizational virtuousness and workplace spirituality and also proved perceived organizational support as a partial mediator between these two variables. The findings make an important contribution to the literature available on positive psychology / organizational behavior, especially positive organizational scholarship (POS). The findings also suggest the organizations to adopt practices and procedures that help to create a climate of virtuousness

Metabolic Syndrome in Ischemic Stroke Patients at Liaquat University Hospital

Objective:  To determine the metabolic syndrome in patients with ischemic stroke at Liaquat University Hospital.  Study design: Cross sectional study  Place and Duration: Department of Medicine, Liaquat University Hospital Hyderabad from January 2015 to July 2015. Methodology: A total of 184 patients diagnosed with ischemic stroke age of 30 to 80 years either gender were included. A blood sample was drawn from the patients in fasting state and was sent to the laboratory for serum triglyceride, serum HDL, and LDL cholesterol and fasting glucose level. Patients were diagnosed as metabolic syndrome on the basis of National Cholesterol Education Program – Third Adult Treatment Panel (NCEP ATPIII, 2001) criteria. Results: Mean age of the patients was 51.1±9.04 years. Male were in majority 96(52.17%). Metabolic syndrome in patients with ischemic stroke was observed in 39.67% (73/184) cases. Patients with age of >50 years were significantly on risk of metabolic syndrome as compared to those having age less than 50 years p-value 0.001. No significant impact of gender was found on metabolic syndrome p-value 0.78. Conclusion: It is concluded that metabolic syndrome was in 39.67% of the patients presented with ischemic stroke. Old age individuals were on more risk of development of metabolic syndrome.&nbsp

The relationship between attitudes, social backdrop and language was explored. It was hypothesized that the exploitation of linguistic choices in the spoken discourse  would correspond the explanations provided by Dominance approach about the difference in language use between men and women. For the purpose of the present study, we observed and analyzed thirteen groups of subjects (women), varied in number of subjects. All the participants were students of university level, approximately aged between18 to 25. Data were obtained by recording the conversation. The participants did not belong to any particular social class.The topics of their conversation were various, and ranged from personal and general to quite universal and emotional. Results indicate that the extensive uses of linguistic choices, significantly, support the feminist view of language use, and that there are certain distinctive features that characterize women language. For instance, there is a considerable correlation between the power structures in society and language use.</p

feminists in general and especially for women in Pakistani society. Different ways of conceptualizing gender-difference along with various social, cultural and psychological dimensions have been explored. The study looks into the factors in which discursive language practices in various dimensions work to construct women identities. Subsequent parts of the study examine different reasons and mechanisms that can account for dichotomous speech patterns and asymmetries which exist between participants in social discourse. Moreover, the two-way function of language has been focused as on the one hand language reflects the social identity of women performed through the language itself, and the realities about the social position of women in Pakistan on the other.</p

The impact of corporate social responsibility on the sustainable financial performance of Italian firms: mediating role of firm reputation

This research examines the impact of corporate social responsibility (CSR) dimensions (employee, customer, community, and environment) on the sustainable business performance of the manufacturing industry. Manifestly, the mediating impact of firm reputation is also analyzed between CSR and sustainable business performance. In doing so, we have collected primary data from Italian manufacturing firm’s employees using simple random sampling. Smart-PLS was used to test the reliability of the covariates and relationships among the variables. The results revealed that CSR has a positive association with firm reputation and sustainable business performance. The findings also indicated that firm reputation has a significant and positive association with sustainable business performance. Moreover, firm’s reputation plays a positive and significant mediating role between CSR and sustainable business performance. These results provide valuable recommendations

Spontaneous Bacterial Peritonitis and its Common Pathogens in HCV Cirrhotic Patients

Objective: To determine the spontaneous bacterial peritonitis and its common pathogens in HCV Cirrhotic patients. Patients and Methods: This cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted at department of Medicine, Liaquat University Hospital Hyderabad/Jamshoro. This study was carried out for period of six months, i.e. from 1st March, 2009 to 31st August, 2009. Patients with liver cirrhosis caused by hepatitis C virus, ranging from 15 to 70 years of age and either gender were included in this study. Ascitic fluid was sent to Diagnostic and Research Laboratory of LUMHS within half hour of collection and ascitic fluid culture was done on blood agar media. TLC count &gt;500-cells/µl or polymorph nuclear leucocyte &gt;250-cells/µl were labelled as SBP positive. Growth positive on different disc was labelled with respect to the positive pathogen. All the data was entered on predesigned proforma. Results: Total 177 cases were studied and the mean age was 50.06±11.5 years with range of 20 to 70 years. Males were found in majority (78.5%) of cases, with male/female ratio of 2.3:1. Most of the patients 120(67.8%) were found having cirrhosis for 1-5 years’ duration. Most of the cases 77(43.5%) presented with Child Pugh-Class B. Spontaneous bacterial peritonitis was present in 100(56.49%) patients. Among these 100 cases, 85.0% were found with positive culture, which showed Escherichia coli (most common) in 54.11% patients, followed by Klebsiella in 16.47% patients, Pneumococci in 9.41% and Enterococci in 7.0% patients. Conclusion: It is concluded that spontaneous bacterial peritonitis was 56.49%, which is a major complication of HCV cirrhosis and E. coli is the major culprit micro-organism. Ascitic fluid culture is a sensitive method to detect the microorganism causing spontaneous bacterial peritonitis.&nbsp

Effects of Workplace Violence Regarding Nurses Job Satisfaction, Turnover Intention and Quality Care in Tertiary Care Hospital of Lahore Pakistan

Introduction: Many countries are encountered workplace violence almost in every field of employment which is a real matter of concern. The occurrence of violence at work place has become a serious threat to the safety and security of employees; exploit their dignity, further leads to lower wellbeing among them. It most of the times puts life in troubles and may lead to death like serious consequences among the health care workers. Work place violence is considered among the leading causes of deaths at the US among women who serve in hospitals or any other services.Method: A quantitative cross-sectional study design was used to determine the effects of workplace violence regarding nurse’s job satisfaction, turnover intention and quality care in tertiary care hospital. 160 nurses were selected as sample. Data was collected through the standardized well adopted questionnaires.Results: The results reveals that the workplace violence was from last twelve months, patients towards nurses is high 68.8%. The statistical difference between “job satisfaction” and “work place violence is significant P=.000.  Further there is significant correlation between workplace violence and job satisfaction and P=.000. The relationship between workplace violence (WPV), Job satisfaction, turnover intention (TI), and quality of care (QOC) revealed that there is significant relationship p &lt; 0.05. Conclusions: Nurses in Pakistan are at high risk of workplace violence, especially verbal attack. In addition, they have a low level of job satisfaction and a high level of turnover intention. Job satisfaction plays the mediator role between workplace and turnover intention and quality of care among nurses. In order to clarify the mechanisms of turnover intention resulting from work place violence, further study should be conducted in-depth, such as how coping strategies used by emergency nurses who experienced workplace violence can affect their turnover intention.
