    Antipsychotic and antidepressant are often used in combination for the treatment of neuropsychiatric disorders. The concomitant use of antipsychotic and/or antidepressant with drugs that may interact can lead to rare, life-threatening conditions such as serotonin syndrome and neuroleptic malignant syndrome. We describe a patient who has a history of taking two offending drugs that interact with drugs given during the course of hospital treatment which leads to the development of serotonin syndrome overlapped with neuroleptic malignant syndrome. The physician should be aware that both NMS and SS can appear as overlapping syndrome especially when patients use a combination of both antidepressants and antipsychotics

    Impacts of biomedical hashtag-based Twitter campaign: #DHPSP utilization for promotion of open innovation in digital health, patient safety, and personalized medicine

    The open innovation hub Digital Health and Patient Safety Platform (DHPSP) was recently established with the purpose to invigorate collaborative scientific research and the development of new digital products and personalized solutions aiming to improve human health and patient safety. In this study, we evaluated the effectiveness of a Twitter-based campaign centered on using the hashtag #DHPSP to promote the visibility of the DHPSP initiative. Thus, tweets containing #DHPSP were monitored for five weeks for the period 20.10.2020–24.11.2020 and were analyzed with Symplur Signals (social media analytics tool). In the study period, a total of 11,005 tweets containing #DHPSP were posted by 3020 Twitter users, generating 151,984,378 impressions. Analysis of the healthcare stakeholder-identity of the Twitter users who used #DHPSP revealed that the most of participating user accounts belonged to individuals or doctors, with the top three user locations being the United States (501 users), the United Kingdom (155 users), and India (121 users). Analysis of co-occurring hashtags and the full text of the posted tweets further revealed that the major themes of attention in the #DHPSP Twitter-community were related to the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), medicine and health, digital health technologies, and science communication in general. Overall, these results indicate that the #DHPSP initiative achieved high visibility and engaged a large body of Twitter users interested in the DHPSP focus area. Moreover, the conducted campaign resulted in an increase of DHPSP member enrollments and website visitors, and new scientific collaborations were formed. Thus, Twitter campaigns centered on a dedicated hashtag prove to be a highly efficient tool for visibility-promotion, which could be successfully utilized by healthcare-related open innovation platforms or initiatives

    Background: The development of digital technologies and the evolution of open innovation approaches have enabled the creation of diverse virtual organizations and enterprises coordinating their activities primarily online. The open innovation platform titled "International Natural Product Sciences Taskforce" (INPST) was established in 2018, to bring together in collaborative environment individuals and organizations interested in natural product scientific research, and to empower their interactions by using digital communication tools. Methods: In this work, we present a general overview of INPST activities and showcase the specific use of Twitter as a powerful networking tool that was used to host a one-week "2021 INPST Twitter Networking Event" (spanning from 31st May 2021 to 6th June 2021) based on the application of the Twitter hashtag #INPST. Results and Conclusion: The use of this hashtag during the networking event period was analyzed with Symplur Signals (https://www.symplur.com/), revealing a total of 6,036 tweets, shared by 686 users, which generated a total of 65,004,773 impressions (views of the respective tweets). This networking event's achieved high visibility and participation rate showcases a convincing example of how this social media platform can be used as a highly effective tool to host virtual Twitter-based international biomedical research events

    Moxifloxacin-induced acute psychosis: A case report with literature review

    Third generation quinolones are extensively used to treat a variety of common bacterial infections. Due to their extensive use in clinical practice, an increase in neuropsychiatric events has been reported. We report the case of psychotic symptoms occurs after three doses of moxifloxacin in a healthy adult male with no underlying risk factors. After the discontinuation of moxifloxacin treatment, there was a complete resolution of patient's symptoms. The case draws attention to a rare side effect of a commonly use drug and alert the clinicians to be cautious in those patients that have a baseline risk factors which makes the patient more susceptible to such adverse drug effect

    Background: Misoprostol is a synthetic analog of prostaglandin-E1 and it is the most widely used drug for the medical management of incomplete abortion. Acute Coronary Syndrome (ACS) rarely occurs in perimenopausal women, in addition, its presentation is atypical, so the disease is not always recognized.Case report: We describe a case of 39-year-old woman with no major underlying cardiovascular risk factors, who developed an episode of ACS following the administration of two doses of misoprostol. After the discontinuation of misoprostol treatment, there was a complete resolution of patient\u27s symptoms.     Surgical outcomes of acute acetabular transverse fracture using ilioinguinal and Stoppa approach

    Objective: To compare surgical outcomes of acute acetabular transverse fracture using ilioinguinal and Stoppa approach.Methods: Twenty five patients who managed with ilioinguinal approach (group A) at a mean follow-up of (32.3±4.6) mo and 30 patients who managed with Stoppa approach (group B) at a mean follow-up of (29.7±3.8) mo were prospectively reviewed. The study was approved by the hospital ethical review committee (IRB approval no: 0189-2007). Patients were called for routine follow up and follow-up durations were set. End points of the study were: (1) blood loss was measured intraoperatively by measuring the blood loss in the suction drain and counting blood stained gauze and postoperatively by assessing hemoglobin after 6 h of surgery; (2) functional outcome was demonstrated using the Harris hip score; (3) reduction quality and radiological results were demonstrated by Matta scoring system.Results: Mean blood loss (intraoperatively + postoperatively) was (1 175.8±310.2) mL and (1 115.7±285.1) mL in patients operated with ilioinguinal and Stoppa approach, respectively. Mean operative time was (242.3±60.8) min and (198.9±50.3) min in patients operated with ilioinguinal and Stoppa approach, respectively. Functional outcome, radiological outcome and reduction quality showed no significant difference between two approaches. Complication rate was 36.0% in group A (9 patients) and 13.3% in group B (4 patients).Conclusions: Our study concludes that Stoppa approach allows less blood loss and operative time with fewer complications

    Evaluation of hydraulic efficiency of lined irrigation channels – A case study from Punjab, Pakistan

    Indus Basin Irrigation System (IBIS) in Pakistan is the backbone of agriculture in the country. The IBIS provides irrigation support to agricultural lands across the country; however, hydraulic efficiency of the water conveyance system is impacted due to seepage losses. The lining of irrigation channels is considered a potential solution for improving hydraulic efficiency. Therefore, this study explores the impact of canal lining on the hydraulic efficiency of the canals in the Punjab province of Pakistan. Overall, 14 channels/distributaries/minors (total length 226 km) were monitored in terms of hydraulic performance in different irrigation zones. Hydraulic, geometrical, and socioeconomic parameters of channel/distributaries/minors including roughness coefficient, sediments, flow velocity, wetted parameter, breaches, theft cases, bed, side slope, water surface profile, hydraulic radius, crop yield, and vegetation growth area have been experimentally observed. Obtained results have been compared with the design and pre-lining data. Ten seepage tests using the inflow -outflow method and eight seepage tests using the ponding method were conducted to estimate seepage losses. Results indicate that almost all the parameters varied from the design values. A detailed comparison of the socioeconomic parameters has been carried out. Results from seepage tests show an approximately 78% reduction in losses. HIGHLIGHTS Canal lining has reduced seepage losses by ∼78%.; Built cross-sections are ∼5% bigger than design cross-sections.; Concrete lining (1:2:4 P.C.C.) is more suitable for future canal lining.; Froma socioeconomic view, canal lining improved equity and reliability of water distribution.; The useful physical life of 1:2:4 P.C.C. lining is 30–50 years, brick lined ∼20–25 years, and protected geosynthetics more than 50 years.
