For diagnosing death due to drowning, the method of acid digestion of diatoms is widely used to detect plankton in the organs of the corpse. However, the method is limited by its being complex, hazardous, time-consuming, and insufficiently sensitive. We therefore, developed a novel simple method to diagnose death due to drowning, and determined the location of drowning by detecting genes of representative bacteria in the environment. To procure all the information in one step, the multiplex PCR method was designed. For the diagnosis of drowning, the genes of upper respiratory indigenous bacteria, Streptococcus salivarius and Streptococcus sanguinis were used as indicators. For detection of the location of drowning, Aeromonas hydrophila and Microcystis aeruginosa were used as indicators of freshwater, and Vibrio harveyi as an indicator of seawater. A set of primers was designed for multiplex PCR. to amplify all the bacterial genes simultaneously. Using this method, 47 cases of drowning were examined, and the causes and locations of death were diagnosed.博士(医学)・乙第1428号・平成31年3月15

Yuri Gagarin said,“The Earth is blue”, in the first manned spacecraft Vostok 1 in April 1961 when he glimpsed the planet from the space. Since then, human beings have been evolving technology of rocket, so that they can stay in space for several months and years. In Japan, JAXA has almost finished constructing“Kibo”, a space experimental module in the International Space Station(ISS), in August, 2008. The first space research of Japan will be carried out at“Kibo”soon. We are also planning to perform a space experiment in“Kibo”to clarify the molecular mechanism of muscle atrophy caused by micro gravity. In this paper, we report our history and future plan to develop space research

Parallel Verification of Serial MAC and AE Modes

A large number of the symmetric-key mode of operations, such as classical CBC-MAC, have serial structures. While a serial mode gives an implementation advantage in terms of required memory or footprint compared to the parallel counterparts, it wastes the capability of parallel process even when it is available. The problem is becoming more relevant as lightweight cryptography is going to be deployed in the real world. In this article, we propose an alternative implementation strategy for serial MAC modes and serial authenticated encryption (AE) modes that allows 2-block parallel operation for verification/decryption. Our proposal maintains the original functionality and security. It is simple yet novel, and generally applicable to a wide range of existing modes including two NIST recommendations, CMAC and CCM. We demonstrate the effectiveness of our proposal by showing several case studies with software implementations

In forensic science, age estimation is an important step in identifying unidentified cadavers. As teeth are resistant to environmental degradation for long periods of time, they are often used to estimate age. Although there have been many reports of age estimation based on dental morphology, these methods tend to be subjective and cannot be used i n the case of edentulous jaws. In the present study, we developed a new method of age estimation from dental parameters (number of upper teeth [UT], lower teeth [LT], and prostheses [NP]; tooth attrition [TA]; and occlusal area [OA]) and the mandibular angle (MA) measured at proposed an equation for calculating the age. The results show that the mean error of this method is similar to that of previous methods, and even demonstrated improved accuracy in subjects aged >60 years. We also proposed an equation for age estimation from only the MA, and showed that we can perform age estimation even in edentulous cases using this equation. Because our method is superior in its simplicity, objectivity, and applicability when compared with previous methods, we believe our method wll prove useful for age estimation in a wide variety of cases.博士(医学)・甲611号・平成26年3月17

Aluminum Silicate Nanotube Coating of Siloxane-Poly(lactic acid)-Vaterite Composite Fibermats for Bone Regeneration

    Get PDF
In our earlier work, a flexible fibermat consisting of a biodegradable composite with soluble silicate species, which has been reported to enhance bone formation, was prepared successfully using poly(L-lactic acid) and siloxane-containing calcium carbonate particles by electrospinning. The fibermat showed enhanced bone formation in an in vivo test. In the present work, to improve the hydrophilicity of skeletal fibers in a fibermat, they were coated with nanotubular aluminum silicate crystals, which have a hydrophilic surface that has excellent affinity to body fluids and a high surface area advantageous for pronounced protein adsorption. The nanotubes were coated easily on the fiber surface using an electrophoretic method. In a conventional contact angle test, a drop of water rapidly penetrated into the nanotube-coated fibermat. The culture test using murine osteoblast-like cells (MC3T3-E1) showed that the cell attachment to the nanotube-coated fibermat at an early stage after seeding was enhanced in comparison with that to the noncoated one. This approach may provide a new method of improving the surface of polymer-based biomaterials

Preparation and Rheological Characterization of Imogolite Hydrogels

Imogolite, one of the aluminium silicates, has a nanotube structure and has been known to form gel under alkaline condition. Imogolite nanotubes were synthesized in an acidic solution with various tube lengths by controlling the aging time from 1 d to 14 d. The length of the nanotubes grew from 100 nm to several μm as the aging time. Pure imogolite hydrogels were prepared by applying a salting-out method and centrifugation from its dispersed solutions with various tube lengths and solution pH. Imogolite hydrogel can be classified as the physically cross-linked one; the structure of the gel network is considered to be the entanglements and hydrogen bonding among nanotubes. The theoretical water contents of the prepared hydrogels were calculated as ∼99.7% in average. Gelation percentage significantly increased as the length of imogolite nanotubes. Whereas hydrogel prepared from 4 d aging sample showed the highest storage modulus of ∼970 Pa, it was found that the hydrogel could be prepared in the pH range from 6 to 10. The gel strength reached the highest value of 1000 Pa when the gel was prepared from the imogolite dispersed solution of pH 8. It could be explained by the surface charge variation of the imogolite
