This thesis examines the association between market risk disclosures and corporate governance, investment efficiency and implied cost of capital. The results show firms that have adopted risk management committee increase the market risk disclosures (both quality and extent). In addition, firms that disclose more market risk disclosures (both quality and extent) improve investment efficiency by reducing (both over-under investment). Market risk disclosures also reduce the firm’s implied cost of equity capital

The effectiveness of ozone to remove the organic compound chloropyrifos or cypermethrin from water at the two different levels of 1 and 2 ppm for each and different contact times was studied The recovered amounts of chloropyrifos or cypermethrin were extracted based on the solid phase extraction SPE method and then analyzed by GC-MS The results demonstrated that the removal of these organic compounds by ozone increased with increasing the contact time The removal percentages of chloropyrifos following ozone bubbling for different periods of 15 30 45 and 60 minutes at room temperature were 10 5 96 3 97 4 and 98 5 in case of samples fortified at the level of 1 ppm while they were 79 6 93 9 94 7 and 96 1 at the level of 2 ppm respectively In case of cypermethrin the removal percentages were 68 6 90 5 97 and 99 2 at 1 ppm level whereas they found to be 30 5 50 84 7 and 92 at 2 ppm respectively Kinetic studies revealed that chloropyrifos and cypermethrin were found to be easily removed from water by ozone treatmen

This study aimed at identifying the extent of instructional leadership practices in Al-Ain government schools as perceived by teachers, the practices that this study investigated are related to five domains: schools goals, supervision ,curriculum, student performance and professional development. This study was guided by three research questions and used both quantitative and quantitative analysis in identifying the extent of instructional leadership Data for this study were collected through a survey using a Likert scale. It was sent to 644 teachers in Al - Ain public schools who taught in different grade levels, Teachers selected were males and females from different age group. Years of experience and qualification; and they were UAE nationals and foreign teachers Statistical tests included means, Percentages and standard deviations. One-way ANOVA test was used to analyze the quantitative part of the questionnaire. The answers to the open-ended questions in the last part of the questionnaire were analyzed qualitatively only four principals of different genders, ages, and years of experience. And educational backgrounds were interviewed. The aim of interviews was to know their perceptions about the extent of instructional leadership according to five domains. The results of this study showed opposite views from both sides. Teachers in Al- Ain schools perceive their principal’s instructional leadership behaviors as highly existent whereas the views of teachers in the interviews as positive. Further, the results also revealed that female principals tend to manage schools far better than the male principals do. Finally, what the school principals need was motivation to adopt leadership practices,Training by professional s who can understand their situation better, colleague who can share Experience and follow up with them and show them how and when to apply the leadership Practices effectively

Unstable pelvic ring fractures are challenging injuries regarding their reduction and stabilization. The presented study evaluates the results of a minimally invasive and quick one-stage stabilization of sacral fractures combined with bilateral pubic rami fractures during a period of national limited resources and decreased general security aiming at reduction of the duration of hospital stay and overall costs. Sixteen patients with unilateral sacral fractures and bilateral pubic rami fractures without lumbosacral dissociation were fixed by two retrosacral threaded transiliac rods and an anterior external fixator. Results were assessed with Majeed score and Matta-Tornetta radiologic criteria for post-operative reduction. The follow up period averaged 23 months. There were 9 cases excellent, 4 cases good and 3 cases fair. The duration of surgery and the number of intra-operative X-ray images were recorded. The presented technique is simple, reproducible and quick for one-stage fixation of the unstable pelvic bony disruption. It reduces the operative time, radiation exposure, duration of hospital stays and cost of care during a critical national period with limited resources.

Production and perception of English consonants by Yemeni EFL learners

Previous studies on the perception-production correlation focused mainly on transcriptions and native English speaker evaluations for production accuracy assessments; only a few included acoustic measurements. This study aims to investigate the production and perception of six English consonants by Yemeni EFL learners of English using an acoustic measurement of second-language production. It has three objectives: (1) To investigate the extent to which word position influences the accuracy of Yemeni EFL learners’ production of the target consonants, (2) to assess the extent to which word position affects their perception, and (3) to investigate the relationship between the overall production and perception of the investigated sounds. A quantitative research method was employed for collecting data from six Yemeni EFL postgraduate students from Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM). In the production tasks, the researchers asked the speakers to produce seventy-two words with the target consonants three times in isolation (Experiment 1) and the other three times in a carrier sentence (Experiment 2). The researchers recorded the speakers’ productions with an iPhone and later evaluated them acoustically via Praat. In the perception test, an AXB experiment was conducted. The findings showed that word position significantly affected the production, yet not the perception of the target sounds. Moreover, an insignificant positive moderate correlation was revealed between the overall production and perception of the target consonants. The findings have implications for second-language speech as well as pronunciation instruction. Teachers may put more focus on specific sound environments that lead learners to struggle while producing/perceiving particular English sounds
