open access articleWireless Sensor Network is a network of large number of nodes with limited power and computational capabilities. It has the potential of event monitoring in unattended locations where there is a chance of unauthorized access. The work that is presented here identifies and addresses the problem of eavesdropping in the exposed environment of the sensor network, which makes it easy for the adversary to trace the packets to find the originator source node, hence compromising the contextual privacy. Our scheme provides an enhanced three-level security system for source location privacy. The base station is at the center of square grid of four quadrants and it is surrounded by a ring of flooding nodes, which act as a first step in confusing the adversary. The fake node is deployed in the opposite quadrant of actual source and start reporting base station. The selection of phantom node using our algorithm in another quadrant provides the third level of confusion. The results show that Dissemination in Wireless Sensor Networks (DeLP) has reduced the energy utilization by 50% percent, increased the safety period by 26%, while providing a six times more packet delivery ratio along with a further 15% decrease in the packet delivery delay as compared to the tree-based scheme. It also provides 334% more safety period than the phantom routing, while it lags behind in other parameters due to the simplicity of phantom scheme. This work illustrates the privacy protection of the source node and the designed procedure may be useful in designing more robust algorithms for location privac

[En] This paper is an applied and experimental study on the remains of the fuel material that was used in oil lamps in the Hellenistic period, as well as the remains of a burning fuel and oil lamp wick. These remains are among the finds of the project of restoration, development, and protection of the archaeological cemetery of Shatby, conducted by the archaeological Society of Alexandria (2020-2023), funded by the A.G. Leventis foundation, Cyprus. The entire cemetery of Shatby is hewn in the a type of limestone called Calcarenite, which is a sedimentary rock. The groundwater at the site is slightly alkaline (pH 7.1), with the total dissolved solids (TDS) at 1.7 g/L. Remains of lighting fuel were found during the removal of the accumulated rubble in the ancient cemetery, where they were analyzed using gas chromatography mass spectrometry (GC-MS) analysis which proved that they are composed of crude oil. Using a scanning electron microscope to examine the traces of wick ash, it appeared that the wick was made of the culm of Cyperus articulate. Based on experimental work, this was also proven by light microscopy examination of the culms of Cyperus articulate and Cyperus papyrus

Modified dual active bridge DC/DC converter with improved efficiency and interoperability in hybrid LCC/VSC HVDC transmission grids

    Get PDF
DC transmission grids are the promising electrical networks in the near future especially with the high penetration of large scale renewables. This paper proposes a modified version of the dual active bridge (DAB) DC/DC converter with AC link capacitors generating reactive power to compensate for non-active power consumption; hence mitigating current stresses and losses to improve efficiency. The proposed topology also enables the connectivity of current source line-commutated HVDC and voltage source HVDC technologies particularly during power reversal; a feature which conventional DAB is incapable of doing. Analysis and detailed design of the proposed converter are addressed and a comparative performance analysis is carried out with conventional DAB. Converter principle of operation is explained and Matlab/Simulink simulations are carried out to verify converter operation particularly under adverse conditions such as rated power reversal and DC fault conditions. A low scale prototype substantiates the theoretical analysis and simulation results

In modern techniques of building processors, manufactures using more than one processor in the integrated circuit (chip) and each processor called a core. The new chips of processors called a multi-core processor. This new design makes the processors to work simultaneously for more than one task or all the cores working in parallel for the same task. All cores are similar in their design, and each core has its own cache memory, while all cores shares the same main memory. So, if one core requests a block of data from main memory to its cache, there should be a protocol to declare the situation of this block in the main memory and other cores. This is called the cache coherency or cache consistency of multi-core. In this paper a special circuit is designed using VHDL coding and implemented using ISE Xilinx software, one protocol was used in this design, the MESI (Modify, Exclusive, Shared and Invalid) protocol. Test results were taken by using test bench, and showed all the states of the protocols are working correctly

Introduction: The efficacy of misoprostol use for cervical priming before intrauterine device insertion (IUD) is controversial. This review aims to evaluate the evidence from published randomized controlled trials about the efficacy and safety of misoprostol before IUD insertion for pain relief in women with no previous vaginal delivery. Materials and methods: We searched the following electronic databases: Web of Science, Cochrane CENTRAL, SCOPUS, and PubMed for relevant studies using the following Mesh terms: (misoprostol) AND (intrauterine device OR IUD). The primary outcome was the mean pain score during insertion. Secondary outcomes included the ease of insertion score, the rate of successful IUD insertion, the rate of IUD insertion failure, and the adverse effects. Results: Ten randomized controlled trials (RCTs) (misoprostol: n=698 and placebo: n=689) were pooled in the analysis. The overall Standardized Mean Difference (SMD) of pain score did not favor either of the two groups (SMD= -0.09, 95%CI [-0.50, 0.33], p=0.007). Pooled results were highly heterogeneous (I2=93%, P<0.001). The total MD of the ease of insertion score favored the misoprostol group (MD= -1.36, 95% CI [-2.20, -0.52], p =0.002). The overall risk ratio (RR) of the number of failed insertions showed that misoprostol is associated with less IUD insertion failures compared to placebo (RR=0.55, 95% CI [0.38, 0.81], p=0.002). Finally, the overall risk showed that misoprostol is associated with more shivering, diarrhea and pelvic pain. Conclusions: Misoprostol facilitates IUD insertion in women with no previous vaginal delivery, and is associated with 50% less chance for IUD insertion failure despite inducing mild adverse effect

Background Pulmonary tuberculosis (PTB) is an increasing global health problem that continues to cause significant morbidity and mortality. The impact of PTB has been measured in terms morbidity and mortality and little attention has been paid to continuing respiratory disability in those who were cured. Pulmonary hypertension (PHT) is a serious respiratory disability that results from structural lung damage and chronic hypoxia. This study was conducted to investigate the presence of PHT in a cohort of treated PTB patients who presented with shortness of breath. Methods This is a cross-sectional study that included 14 consecutive patients who were cured of PTB and presented with shortness of breath. Demographic and clinical data were recorded for all patients. PHT was diagnosed using Doppler echocardiography. Results Fourteen patients who were treated for PTB and were found to have PHT were studied. All patients were sputum smear negative at the time of the study. The mean age (SD) was 43.1 (13.6) and half of the patients were males. The mean number of years since PTB was diagnosed (SD) was 9.4 (10.9). All patients had abnormal chest x-rays. The commonest radiological abnormality was fibrocavitation which occurred in 50% of patients. Estimated pulmonary artery systolic pressure (PASP) of 51 to 80 mm/Hg was found in 9 patients (64.3%) whereas PASP of 40 to 50 mm/Hg was found in 4 patients (28.6%) and one patient had PASP more than 80 mm/Hg. Conclusions Different grades of PHT occurred in this cohort of treated PTB patients on average about 9 years after cure. The findings of this study support implementation of strategies for early detection and prevention of PTB. For those who were cured from PTB, longer periods of disability should be implemented in assessment of disease burden

There is an urgent need to forecast real estate unit prices because the average price of residential real estate is always fluctuating. This paper provides a real estate price prediction model based on supervised regression deep learning with 3 hidden layers, a Relu activation function, 100 neurons, and a Root Mean Square Propagation optimizer (RMS Prop). The model was developed using actual data collected from 28 Egyptian cities between 2014 and 2022. The model can forecast the price of a real estate unit based on 27 different variables. The model is created in two stages: adjusting the parameters to obtain the best ones using a sensitivity k-fold technique, then optimizing the result. 85 percent of the real estate unit data gathered was used in training and developing the model, while the other 15 percent was used in validating and testing. By using a dropout regularization technique of 0.60 on the model layers, the final developed model had a maximum error of 10.58%. After validation, the model had a maximum error of about 9.50%. A graphical user interface (GUI) tool is developed to make use of the final predictive model, which is very simple for real estate developers and decision-makers to use. Doi: 10.28991/CEJ-SP2023-09-04 Full Text: PD

Furthermore, to introduce and study the notion of finitely weakly null-additive set function relative to the σ– ring as a generalization of some concepts such as measure, countably additive, finitely additive, countably null-additive, countably weakly null-additive and finitely null-additive. As the first result, it has been proved that every finitely null-additive is a finitely weakly null-additive. Finally, the paper introduces a study of the concept of outer measure as a stronger form of finitely weakly null-additive
