Salinity is a major threat in Pakistan due to use of low quality water. Present study was conducted   to evaluate MNH-886 at different salinity levels by using 3 different experiment. In first experiment seed of MNH-886 was grown in Petri dishes and data of germination was taken by applying 23 NaCl treatments from 0-1300 mM. Results showed that germination is get hampered by high salt concentration. Even at the concentration of 100 mM it lowered to 80% and become zero at 700 mM NaCl solution. In second and third experiment seedling survival was tested  in MS media and hydroponic. From both of these experiment it was found that survival rate decrease greatly with increase in salt concentration. On the basis of hydroponic results it is assumed that MNH-886 is not good performer under salinity stress Keywords: MNH-886, Germination, survival, hydroponic medi

Understanding source and sink pattern of coral larvae is among the key elements for effective ecosystem management and future habitat restoration. This study examined dispersal pattern of coral larvae among three known inshore reefs (Pulau Ular, Balok Reef and Raja Muda reef) in Kuantan coastal waters by simulating virtual larvae trajectories during spawning event in 2018. Dispersal pathways were mod elled and constructed by incorporating biological traits (timing of spawning and pelagic larvae duration) using Langragian particle tracking module integrated with 2-dimensional, hydrodynamic, flexible network model (MIKE 21 FM). Results indicated that Acroporid larvae moved in southward direction throughout dispersal period. Source and sink dynamic suggested that Pulau Ular has high larvae retention (70%) in which most of larvae originated from natal reef. Balok reef was dominant source of larvae for Raja Muda reef. Results also indicated that patches reefs near Raja Muda was ideal sink site for coral larvae and sh ould be prioritized for future ecosystem management action

House Price Shock and Business Cycle: The French Case

    Get PDF
This study examined the relationship between house prices and the business cycle. Specifically, we examined the effect of house price and stock price in the French business cycle. After presenting the transmission channels from house price to the business cycle, we analyzed the cyclical properties of house prices and compared them with the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) cycle. The question arises: are fluctuations in economic activity more sensitive to a real estate price shock (property wealth effect) or a stock price shock (stock market wealth effect)? We collected the data over the 1980Q1-2015Q4 period and investigated the effects of house price and stock price shocks on French GDP by employing the Structural VAR model. We found the evidence that house price strongly affects the GDP cycle. Indeed, their response is significantly more important than the stock price, suggesting that the housing market might contribute to the persistent propagation of the shocks hitting the economic system. The study has important implications for both academia and policymakers and offers new insights into the French experience.JEL Codes - A10; B

The Efficacy of Ivabradine Alone, Metoprolol Alone and Combination of Ivabradine and Metoprolol in Reducing Heart Rate Among Patients Undergoing Computed Tomography Coronary Angiography

Objectives: to determine the efficacy of Ivabradine alone, Metoprolol alone and Combination of Ivabradine and Metoprolol in reducing heart rate among patients undergoing Computed Tomography Coronary Angiography (CTCA). Methodology: it was a randomized controlled trial comprised of 200 patients. Patients undergoing CTCA having heart rates greater than 80 bpm were divided into three groups. Group A was given Ivabradine and a placebo, Group B received Metoprolol and placebo while Group C was administered with Ivabradine and Metoprolol an hour prior to the scan. The scan was carried under similar situations. Heart rate and variability was recorded before and during the scan. Results: The mean heart rate variability and mean reduction in heart rate of Group A was 3.13±1.01 and 19.02±2.05 respectively. The mean heart rate variability and mean reduction in heart rate of Group B was 4.27±1.08 and 12.11±2.45 respectively. While, the mean heart rate variability and mean reduction in heart rate of Group C was 1.88±0.42 and 25.03±2.74 respectively. Conclusion: Ivabradine is an effective and safe drug for reducing heart rate in patients having CTCA, especially among patients who are unable to tolerate calcium channel blockers and beta blockers owing to their side effects. Objective: To analyze hyperlipidemia patterns among newly diagnosed young diabetic patients. Study Design: A descriptive cross-sectional study Place and Duration: Study was conducted in DHQ Teaching Hospital, DG Khan, Bahawal Victoria hospital, Bahawalpur, and Sheikh Zayd Hospital, Rahim Yar Khan from July 2017 to July 2018.Methodology: All the patients were young and newly diagnosed with Diabetes Mellitus. Data collection was done via non probability consecutive sampling included patients’ demographics, past medical history, co-morbidities, and lab findings were assessed. SPSS version 24 was used to analyze data. P value ≤ 0.05 was taken as significant. Results: Eighty patients were included in this study. Diabetic nephropathy, diabetic retinopathy, macrovascular complications, hyperglycemic hyperosmolar non-ketotic coma history, family history and hypertension were noted in n=12 (15%), n=6 (7.5%), n=9 (11.3%), n=1 (1.3%), n=34 (42.5%) and n=11 (13.8%) respectively. The mean hyperlipidemia, hypertriglyceridemia, of the patients was 4.54±0.52 mmol/L, 2.59±1.13 mmol/L, 1.39±0.80 mmol/L, 1.03±0.59 mmol/L respectively. Conclusion: the study has shown that the prevalence of increased levels of triglycerides is more than increased LDL cholesterol levels among these patients. As it has been established that hypertriglyceridemia is a known risk factor for causing cardiovascular disorders among diabetic patients, it should be addressed and managed accordingly at the onset of diabetes. Assessment of benthic and coral community structure in an inshore reef in Balok, Pahang, Malaysia. Biodiversitas 20: 872-877. Inshore water reef closer to human activities are often neglected since they are not protected by marine park management. Little is known on how this reef responses to challenging environment in terms of abundance, diversity and benthic community composition. This study provides a quantitative assessment on the benthic community composition at 5 reef sites in Balok, Pahang, Malaysia and observed the ecological adaptation in the reef community towards turbid water environment. Balok reef has 39% overall coral cover with very low macroalgae abundance (4%). A total of 28 coral genera from 12 families have been recorded with Porites the most dominant genus in the coral assemblages. Most reef sites in Balok are categorized under conservation class 1 (CC1), which indicated that resilient and survival of the reef rely on stress-tolerators taxa. The data presented here showed that Balok reef is highly resilient towards constant exposure to high sedimentation and wave action
