Graded Fock--like representations for a system of algebraically interacting paraparticles
We will present an algebra describing a mixed paraparticle model, known in
the bibliography as "The Relative Parabose Set (\textsc{Rpbs})". Focusing in
the special case of a single parabosonic and a single parafermionic degree of
freedom , we will study a class of Fock--like representations
of this algebra, dependent on a positive integer parameter p (a kind of
generalized parastatistics order). Mathematical properties of the Fock--like
modules will be investigated for all values of p and constructions such as
ladder operators, irreducibility (for the carrier spaces) and Klein group
gradings (for both the carrier spaces and the algebra itself) will be

Coaxial Atomic Force Microscope Tweezers
We demonstrate coaxial atomic force microscope (AFM) tweezers that can trap
and place small objects using dielectrophoresis (DEP). An attractive force is
generated at the tip of a coaxial AFM probe by applying a radio frequency
voltage between the center conductor and a grounded shield; the origin of the
force is found to be DEP by measuring the pull-off force vs. applied voltage.
We show that the coaxial AFM tweezers (CAT) can perform three dimensional
assembly by picking up a specified silica microsphere, imaging with the
microsphere at the end of the tip, and placing it at a target destination.Comment: 9 pages, 3 figures, in review at Applied Physics Letter
Rhythmic firing patterns in SCN: The role of circuit interactions
The suprachiasmatic nucleus (SCN) is believed to contain the main generator of circadian rhythmicity in mammals. In order to obtain further functional details of this, electrophysiological extracellular measurements in vitro were made. By means of an interspike interval distribution analysis, it is shown that there is a novel kind of neuronal firing pattern: the harmonic pattern. From these observations, we have developed a theoretical model based on possible filtering processes occurring during synaptic transmission. The model suffices to infer that regular ultradian oscillators could be an emergent property of circuit interactions of cells in the suprachiasmatic nucleus

Bioaccumulation of PCB & DDE methyl sulfones in marine mammals and their interactions with receptor proteins
PCB and DDE-Methyl sulphone metabolites are the product of enzymatic and bile acid entero hepatic metabolism in the final phase (III) of PCB and DDE detoxification in mammals following hepatic microsomal cytochrome P450-dependent metabolism (phase I) and conjugation (phase II). There is good evidence that PCB and DDE methyl sulphone (MSF) metabolites interfere with steroid binding to a receptor protein in uterine epithelium (uteroglobin - UG2 and bronchial epithelium (clara cell secretory protein - CCSP). UG and CCSP are homologous 16,000 Da proteins with different tissue-specific functions. UG binds progesterone in the pre-implantation uterus to signal localised endometrial thickening and capillary formation, vital for successful attachment of the fertilised embryo. PCB-MSFs can displace progesterone in the mammalian uterus due to their higher affinity for UG, resulting in implantation failure or early fetal death. CCSP however, functions to sequester phospholipase A2 (PLA2) released in response to stress (pathogenic infection / injury) to suppress inflammatory responses triggered by PLA2 in bronchial epithelium. CCSP is also known as retinol-binding protein (RBP) transporting retinol (vit A) to target epithelia for a functional immune response*. Studies with Harbour Seals demonstrated displacement of retinol from RBP by hydroxy-PCB metabolites resulting in immunosuppression. PCB-MSFs have been shown to accumulate in clara cells and uterine epithelium in laboratory radioactive tracer studies and CCSP-knock out studies with mice. PCB and DDE -MSFs burdens have been found in marine mammals, suggesting they may be subject to reproductive and immuno-toxic effects of these metabolites. This study determines PCB and DDE-MSFs burdens in tissues (including lung & uterus) of Harbour Seal (Phoca vitulina) and Striped Dolphin (Stenella coeruleoalba) morbillivirus victims and characterises the marine mammalian UG/CCSP protein
Adult Perceptions of Their Relationships with Siblings Diagnosed with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder
How young adults\u27 perceptions of their relationships with their siblings with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder differ from the perceptions of other young adults having non-disordered siblings were examined. Participants\u27 perceptions of warmth, conflict, and rivalry with their siblings were measured using the Adult Sibling Relationship Questionnaire. The results indicated that perceptions of warmth, conflict, and rivalry were not significantly different for these two groups. An inverse relationship between warmth and rivalry was found for participants having siblings with ADHD. As feelings of warmth increased, feelings of rivalry decreased. Findings suggest future research in this area is needed for results that are more conclusive
Offline Signature Verification by Combining Graph Edit Distance and Triplet Networks
Biometric authentication by means of handwritten signatures is a challenging
pattern recognition task, which aims to infer a writer model from only a
handful of genuine signatures. In order to make it more difficult for a forger
to attack the verification system, a promising strategy is to combine different
writer models. In this work, we propose to complement a recent structural
approach to offline signature verification based on graph edit distance with a
statistical approach based on metric learning with deep neural networks. On the
MCYT and GPDS benchmark datasets, we demonstrate that combining the structural
and statistical models leads to significant improvements in performance,
profiting from their complementary properties
