The Dunning-Kruger effect (cognitive bias) is a psychological phenomenon that implies that individuals with a lack of knowledge and skills have an unrealistically optimistic image of their abilities compared to others. Purpose: The study aimed to examine the presence of the Dunning-Kruger effect in fifth (final) year dental undergraduate students at Gulf Medical University, UAE, in clinical domains related to pediatric dentistry. Methods: A longitudinal cohort study was conducted at Gulf Medical University, College of Dentistry, to evaluate cognitive bias among 5th-year dental students at GMU in the competency domains of communication, diagnosis, and clinical skills in Pediatric dentistry. Results: Overall, compared to the level of confidence of students in September, there was a decline in the level of confidence in January. With an increase in time, the percentage shifted to a higher level in May across all domains. Conclusion: Characteristic patterns of fluctuations in students’ self-confidence during clinical exposure are observed. The research results prove that the Dunning-Kruger effect, the cognitive bias of the perception pattern, is present in the examined group of dental students.

Introduction: The teeth that appear at the time of birth are called Natal teeth. The exact cause of its appearance is unknown, but possible causes for this condition include infections, trauma, hormonal stimulation etc. There is a possibility to aspirate the tooth and difficulty with feeding. Case report: A one day old baby born with teeth in the lower jaw was referred to our dental department, Thumbay Hospital, Dubai, UAE. The crown structure was attached to the gums with grade 2 mobility (Millers classification). The shell like crown was removed with a periodontal curette and care was taken not to injure the underlying tooth. Vitamin K injection 1mg IM was given in the anterolateral thigh 2hours before the procedure. Conclusion: The appearance of natal teeth is a rare case however it is not uncommon in the newborns. Extraction as the first treatment choice should be performed as soon as possible considering all possible complications. Vitamin K administration is a mandatory step in the treatment

The Superhalogen Properties of Gold Oxide Nanoclusters

Nanoclusters possessing anomalously large electron affinity (EA) values (EA \u3e 3.7 eV) are termed superhalogens. Superhalogens play an important role in a wide variety of areas, such as oxidizing agents, nucleating centers of aerosols in the atmosphere, and bio-catalysis. The existence of several superhalogens were first predicted and later verified experimentally. In this work, we present results of our density functional theory-based calculations, along with supporting experimental results, of the superhalogen behavior of Au3Ox [x = 0 - 4] clusters. This is the first-time gold oxide clusters have been reported to show superhalogen characteristics
