Revisiting Vsevolod Meyerhold’s Biomechanics: Challenges for Directors and Actors in Theatre Today
Despite the popularity of Vsevolod Meyerhold’s biomechanics in theatre practice, his lofty ideas have unfortunately not satisfied the yearnings of directors and actors all over the world. His discourse directs actors to accomplish complex movements like gymnastics, acrobatics, ballet, and circus movements without educating us on the human anatomy and the influence of the laws of mechanics on motion. These factors constitute the foundation upon which biomechanics rest upon. The purpose of this study is to create the awareness among the young and aspiring directors and actors on the challenges of the laws of mechanics in theatre practice. Consequently, this study believes that if Meyerhold’s biomechanics must be properly applied in theatre practice, then, young and upcoming directors and actors must be knowledgeable in the simple mechanics of motion to guarantee effective and efficient movements, movement pattern and movement combinations on theatre stage and screen.
Public Subsidy Of Health Care And Health Outcomes In OECD Countries
This study determines if differences in per capita health care cost and health outcomes among OECD countries can be explained by the extent to which national health expenditures is publicly financed. The study controls, whenever multicollinearity issues can be avoided, for indicators of the quality of the health care system, health inputs and health risk factors. Using multiple regression analysis, the study finds that the quality of the health care system, not the extent of public subsidy, is the more statistically significant determinant of the cross-country variance in health outcomes.
Differential Item Functioning of the Revised Multigroup Ethnic Identity Measure (MEIM-R) in Racially and Income Diverse Youth with Type 1 Diabetes
Type 1 diabetes (T1D) is a common chronic illness faced by youth in the United States, with rates of TID continuing to rise annually. Individuals with T1D from racially minoritized backgrounds are made vulnerable to disproportionately adverse diabetes-related outcomes compared to white peers due to enduring systems of oppression. It is important to understand modifiable psychosocial factors that may influence health-related outcomes in youth with T1D, particularly for racially minoritized individuals to buffer deleterious effects of racism. One factor meriting exploration is ethnic identity. Current available literature on measures fit to assess ethnic identity in youth with chronic illness broadly is limited. The purpose of the present study is to examine the factor structure, reliability, and validity of the revised Multigroup Ethnic Identity Measure (MEIM-R) in a racially- and income-diverse sample of youth with T1D across sociodemographic and illness-related proxies for one’s positionality in oppressive systems. Methods: 142 youth with type 1 diabetes were recruited from a pediatric endocrinology outpatient clinic as part of a larger study examining resilience in youth with T1D. Youth completed the MEIM-R as well as diabetes specific measures of psychological flexibility, family conflict, non-acceptance, quality of life, and a general of familism. Health-related outcomes such as HbA1c levels and illness duration were extracted from participant medical records at baseline. Information on income was obtained from caregiver reported demographic questionnaires. Confirmatory factor analyses compared the structural validity of competing MEIM-R models, and Uniform and Non-Uniform Differential Item Functioning (DIF) across sociodemographic and illness-related factors. Convergent and divergent validity measures indicated the MEIM-R did not correlate with other psychosocial factors examined in this study
Health Outcomes And The Cost-Quality Trade-Off In Health Care: Empirical Study Of OECD Countries
This study applies multivariate regression analysis to cross-section data of 30 OECD countries to determine if there is a trade-off between health care cost and the quality of the health system on one hand, and better health outcomes on the other. It also investigates whether a higher quality health system leads to superior health outcomes. The empirical results provide positive answers to the above two questions. Indices of responsiveness, fairness or accessibility, and overall efficiency of the health system developed by the World Health Organization were used in this study to measure health system quality. The rate of infant mortality and a disability-free or healthy life expectancy measure developed by the WHO are used as indicators of health outcomes. The empirical models control for the effects of cross-country differences in literacy level and health-risk or lifestyle. The study finds evidence that the more responsive and accessible the country’s health system is, the longer is the healthy life expectancy of its people. Moreover, the more accessible and efficient the country’s health system is, the lower is the rate of infant mortality
Health Care System Financing And Design: Convergent Trends In North America And Europe
A study of the evolution of health care systems in Canada and Europe shows that the earlier effort at making health care services available to everybody was followed by reform measures focused on cost containment. In the U.S., the rapid rise in health care cost and low access are widely recognized as twin problems. Health care reform in this country first focused on cost containment through managed care to make health insurance affordable, and then shifted to expanding access to coverage at the state level without doing away with the private health insurance market
Strategy to increase the number of halal self declared certification in Indonesia
Self-declared halal certification is a type of certification intended to simplify the halal certification process for Micro and Small Enterprises (MSEs). However, in reality, the number of self-declared halal certifications in Indonesia is still not maximizing its optimal potential. Out of the available quota of 349,834 free halal Self-declared certifications from governments, only 119,662 quotas have been used (BPJPH 2022). In fact, there are more than 64 million MSEs in Indonesia that are still not halal certified. Even though self-declared halal certification has advantages form MSEs over other types of halal certification, there are still several problems in implementation in the field which are reflected in the low number from MSEs that are halal certified. Therefore, a strategy is needed to answer this problem. The purpose of this research is to identify the SWOT analysis related to self-declared halal certification and to formulate a strategy to increase its usage from stakeholder perspective. SWOT method is used to applied the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats and the possible development strategies of self-declared stakeholder namely the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI), PPH Assistance and Halal Product Guarantee Organizer (BPJPH) The ANP method prioritizes these four aspects and the best strategy in developing halal self-declared policy. An aggressive strategy is needed through equitable information dissemination and optimizing the support of PPH assistants to address the challenge of the low number of self-declared halal certifications. From this research we recommend the Government to provides a reasonable honorarium for PPH assistants. BPJPH can enhance governance and expedite the development of AI and blockchain technologies to facilitate UMK and PPH assistants in the document collection process. In addition, PPH assistants can adopt more proactive and creative approaches in their assistance
The Role of Cultural Heritage and Tourism in Nation Building: A Study of Lagos Eyo Festival
Abstract Nigeria is made up of over 250 ethnic groups and has over 500 dialects validating
her rich cultural diversity and resources. Yet its cultural industry has not been properly
harnessed and as a result, Nigeria is fast losing her cultural heritage or history to cultural
colonization and westernization. Consequently, Nigeria faces the possibility of cultural
usurpation by cultures that are foreign to her cosmology. This research therefore examines
how Nigeria's cultural resources can be tapped into for nation building using the Eyo ..
