Transforming doctors: learning experiences of Homeopathy from the narratives of egressed postgraduated students of the Jundiaí School of Medicine, São Paulo, Brazil

The teaching and apprenticeship of Medicine are currently in the focus of discussions and investigations. Recent curriculum reform recommend a humanized, customized education that values the general knowledge and the critical-reflective reasoning, comprehending the technological, economical, social and cultural dimensions of medical care. The medical practice and physicians themselves have been criticized for impersonality, compartmentalization and automatic treatment. The dissatisfaction with medical care contributes to patients and physicians to search for other treatment options among the Complementary and Alternative Medicines (CAM). Since 2003 the Jundiaí School of Medicine offers postgraduate education in Homeopathy (PGH-FMJ) for medical doctors, integrating Homeopathy and conventional Medicine. The objective of this study was to analyze the learning experiences of the egresses students from the two first Classes of the PGH-FMJ, analysing a total of 14 participants. The methodology included multiple-choice questionnaires, non-structured interviews and the oral history technique. The results showed that the learning of Homeopathy at the Jundiaí School of Medicine led to new humanistic, affective, volitive and intellective acquisitions, to a greater professional and self satisfaction and to a better medical-patient relationship.O ensino e a aprendizagem da Medicina estão atualmente no foco de questionamentos e buscas. Recentes reformas curriculares preconizam uma formação humanizada, individualizada que valorize o conhecimento geral, o pensamento crítico-reflexivo, abrangendo as dimensões tecnológicas, econômicas e sociais da assistência à saúde. O ato médico e o próprio profissional têm sido alvo de críticas pela impessoalidade, compartimentalização e forma automática de tratamento. A insatisfação com o cuidado médico contribui para que pacientes e médicos busquem nas Medicinas alternativas e complementares (CAM) outras opões de tratamento. Desde 2003, o Curso de Pós-graduação em Homeopatia da Faculdade de Medicina de Jundiaí (PGH-FMJ) oferece o ensino da Homeopatia para médicos, integrando-a à Medicina convencional. Este estudo teve como objetivo analisar as experiências de aprendizado em Homeopatia dos egressos das duas primeiras turmas do Curso de Especialização em Homeopatia da PGH-FMJ, analisando um total de 14 participantes. A metodologia compreendeu questionários de múltipla escolha, entrevistas não estruturadas e a técnica de História oral. Os resultados revelaram que com o aprendizado no Curso de Especialização em Homeopatia da FMJ, os egressos adquiriram competências para o exercício da especialidade, com ganhos nas dimensões afetivas, volitivas e intelectivas, maior satisfação profissional e pessoal e melhora na relação médico-paciente
