    Get PDF
The main focus of this chapter is to modeling the different parts of the wind energy conversion system (WECS) and reviewing the different approaches used in this context. The chapter starts with the aerodynamic and the structural modeling of the wind turbines (WTs), and a description of the steps used to derive a linear time invariant (LTI) model. Thereafter, the chapter introduces models of the electrical actuators in the three phases (abc) and park phases (dq) reference frames, and recalls the assumptions considered. The chapter finishes by presenting the pulse width modulation (PWM) control strategy, the power converters and the pitch actuator models

In this paper, the bandwidth enhancement of bandpass filter (BPF) is proposed by utilizing defected microstrip structure (DMS). The initial micro strip BPF which is designed to have the bandwidth 1GHz with the center frequency of 3.5GHz is deployed on FR4 Epoxy dielectric substrate with overall size and thickness of 14mm x 24mm and 1.6mm, respectively. The proposed filter consists of two parallel coupled lines centred by ring-shaped, to enhance the bandwidth response, an attempt is carried out by applying DMS on the ligne center with a ring-shaped of initial filter. Here, the proposed DMS is constructed of the arrowhead dumbbell. Some parametrical studies to the DMS such as changing to obtain the optimum geometry of DMS with the desired bandwidth response. From the characterization result, it shows that the utilization of DMS on to the microstrip ligne of filter has widened 3dB bandwidth response up to 1.8GHz ranges from 2.55GHz to 4.35GHz yielding an enhanced wideband response for various wideband wireless applications

A new compact multiband PIFA (Planar Inverted-F Antenna) for mobile handset is proposed in this article. The proposed PIFA has a simple geometry with four slots integrated in the radiating patch and ground plane. The PIFA occupies a small volume of 51 × 14 × 7.2 mm3 and is placed on the top portion of mobile phone. The optimized PIFA is worked in the 790 MHz band (737–831 MHz), the 1870 MHz band (1794–1977 MHz), the 2550 MHz band (2507–2615 MHz), and the 3400 MHz band (3341–3545 MHz), to cover LTE700, LTE800, DCS1800, PCS1900, LTE1800, LTE1900, LTE2500, and WIMAX3400 bands. Each of the four operating bands can be controlled independently by the variation of a single parameter of the proposed design, with a wide control range. An omnidirectional radiation pattern to each resonant frequency is obtained with a maximum gain of 2.15 dBi at 790 MHz, 3.99 dBi at 1870 MHz, 4.57 dBi at 2550 MHz, and 6.43 dBi at 3400 MHz. The proposed PIFA is studied in the free space and in the presence of other mobile phone components such as the battery, LCD (liquid crystal display), camera, microphone, speaker, buttons, and a plastic housing. The distribution of specific absorption rate for both European and American standards for each operating band and at various distances between the antenna and the human head is also studied

Colour measurements by reflection of 200 virgin olive oil samples from the southern zone of Spain and the northern one of Morocco were made. Acidity measurements of these oils were made as well, and a cluster analysis was employed for their classification. Results show that, generally, Moroccan oils present a hue more greenish (hº average of 87.3º) than the Spanish ones (85.1º), and those are less saturated (C* average of 91.7 and 105.3, respectively). On the other hand, acidity is remarkably different for these two geographic zones, having average values of 0.31 for Spanish oils and 2.87 for Moroccan ones. From these experimental measurements, the cluster analysis shows that it is possible to classify these oils according to their geographic production zones (Spanish-Moroccan area) depending on the acidity or the hue angle.Esta trabajo ha sido realizado gracias al Proyecto 17PRO/00 financiado por la Agencia Española de Cooperación Internacional (AECI)

The paper present an evaluation of a grid-connected photovoltaic (PV) system installed on the roof of a government building located in Tangier, Morocco. The experimental data was recorded from 1st January 2015 to December 2015 based on real time observation. The aim is to encourage the use of solar PV system for government, commercial and residence building in Morocco based on the obtained results. The system is made up of 20 modules of 250 Wp and one inverter of 5 kW. The assessed parameters of the PV installation includes energy output, final yield, modules temperature, efficiency module, performance ratio (PR) and others. The PV park supplied the grid with 6411.3 kWh during the year 2015. The final yield (Yf) ranged from 1.96 to 6.42 kWh/kWp, the performance ratio (PR) ranged from 58% to 98% and the annual capacity factor was found to be 14.84%. The final yield of PV installation is compared with other final yields of solar PV systems located at other places. Finally various power losses are given through a diagram loss

The Design and Optimization of GaAs Single Solar Cells Using the Genetic Algorithm and Silvaco ATLAS

    No full text
Single-junction solar cells are the most available in the market and the most simple in terms of the realization and fabrication comparing to the other solar devices. However, these single-junction solar cells need more development and optimization for higher conversion efficiency. In addition to the doping densities and compromises between different layers and their best thickness value, the choice of the materials is also an important factor on improving the efficiency. In this paper, an efficient single-junction solar cell model of GaAs is presented and optimized. In the first step, an initial model was simulated and then the results were processed by an algorithm code. In this work, the proposed optimization method is a genetic search algorithm implemented in Matlab receiving ATLAS data to generate an optimum output power solar cell. Other performance parameters such as photogeneration rates, external quantum efficiency (EQE), and internal quantum efficiency (EQI) are also obtained. The simulation shows that the proposed method provides significant conversion efficiency improvement of 29.7% under AM1.5G illumination. The other results were Jsc = 34.79 mA/cm2, Voc = 1 V, and fill factor (FF) = 85%
