    Pratylenchus thornei, the root-lesion nematode, is widely distributed in wheat (Triticum aestivum) growing areas of many countries and is of particular concern in sub-tropical environments (Thompson 2015). These nematodes penetrate roots to feed and reproduce in the root cortex leading to loss of root function, which affects nutrient and water uptake of nutrients and water causing nutrient deficiency and water stress (Thompson 2015). In the original paper the population response of P. thornei in Queensland, Australia wheat to temperature is modelled using a linear and quadratic equations. The study aimed to investigate the effects of soil profile temperatures after different sowing dates on reproduction of the nematodes in susceptible and moderately resistant wheat cultivars in the subtropical grain region of eastern Australia.     Cambrian edrioasteroid reveals new mechanism for secondary reduction of the skeleton in echinoderms

    Echinoderms are characterized by a distinctive high-magnesium calcite endoskeleton as adults, but elements of this have been drastically reduced in some groups. Herein, we describe a new pentaradial echinoderm, Yorkicystis haefneri n. gen. n. sp., which provides, to our knowledge, the oldest evidence of secondary non-mineralization of the echinoderm skeleton. This material was collected from the Cambrian Kinzers Formation in York (Pennsylvania, USA) and is dated as ca 510 Ma. Detailed morphological observations demonstrate that the ambulacra (i.e. axial region) are composed of flooring and cover plates, but the rest of the body (i.e. extraxial region) is preserved as a dark film and lacks any evidence of skeletal plating. Moreover, X-ray fluorescence analysis reveals that the axial region is elevated in iron. Based on our morphological and chemical data and on taphonomic comparisons with other fossils from the Kinzers Formation, we infer that the axial region was originally calcified, while the extraxial region was non-mineralized. Phylogenetic analyses recover Yorkicystis as an edrioasteroid, indicating that this partial absence of skeleton resulted from a secondary reduction. We hypothesize that skeletal reduction resulted from lack of expression of the skeletogenic gene regulatory network in the extraxial body wall during development.     Quantifying the Origin and Distribution of Intracluster Light in a Fornax-like Cluster

    Using a cosmological NN-body simulation, we investigate the origin and distribution of stars in the intracluster light (ICL) of a Fornax-like cluster. In a dark matter only simulation we identify a halo which, at z=0z=0, has M200≃4.1×1013MsunM_200 \simeq 4.1 \times 10^{13}M_{sun} and r200=700kpcr_{200} = 700kpc, and replace infalling subhalos with models that include spheroid and disc components. As they fall into the cluster, the stars in some of these galaxies are stripped from their hosts, and form the ICL. We consider the separate contributions to the ICL from stars which originate in the haloes and the discs of the galaxies. We find that disc ICL stars are more centrally concentrated than halo ICL stars. The majority of the disc ICL stars are associated with one initially disc-dominated galaxy that falls to the centre of the cluster and is heavily disrupted, producing part of the cD galaxy. At radial distances greater than 200kpc, well beyond the stellar envelope of the cD galaxy, stars formerly from the stellar haloes of galaxies dominate the ICL.
