    Ghost Chaplygin scalar field model of dark energy

    We investigate the correspondence between the ghost and Chaplygin scalar field dark energy models in the framework of Einstein gravity. We consider a spatially non-flat FRW universe containing the interacting dark energy with dark matter.     Metallic multilayers for X-band Bragg reflector applications

    We present a structural and high frequency (8.72GHz) electrical characterization of sputter deposited Ti/W, Ti/Ru and Mo/Ti metallic multilayers for potential application as acoustic Bragg reflectors. We prove that all metallic multilayers comprised of different acoustic impedance metals such as Ti, W, Mo are promising candidates for Bragg reflector/bottom electrode in full X-band thin film acoustic resonators. Values for high frequency resistivity of the order of 10−8ohm.m10^{-8} ohm.m are measured by use of a contact-free/non-invasive sheet resistance method

    Correlation of p-doping in CVD Graphene with Substrate Surface Charges

    Correlations between the level of p-doping exhibited in large area chemical vapour deposition (CVD) graphene field effect transistor structures (gFETs) and residual charges created by a variety of surface treatments to the silicon dioxide (SiO(2)) substrates prior to CVD graphene transfer are measured. Beginning with graphene on untreated thermal oxidised silicon, a minimum conductivity (σ(min)) occurring at gate voltage V(g) = 15 V (Dirac Point) is measured. It was found that more aggressive treatments (O(2) plasma and UV Ozone treatments) further increase the gate voltage of the Dirac point up to 65 V, corresponding to a significant increase of the level of p-doping displayed in the graphene. An electrowetting model describing the measured relationship between the contact angle (θ) of a water droplet applied to the treated substrate/graphene surface and an effective gate voltage from a surface charge density is proposed to describe biasing of V(g) at σ(min) and was found to fit the measurements with multiplication of a correction factor, allowing effective non-destructive approximation of substrate added charge carrier density using contact angle measurements

    Control of MMC-based STATCOM as an effective interface between energy sources and the power grid

This paper presents a dynamic model of modular multilevel converters (MMCs), which are considered as an effective interface between energy sources and the power grid. By improving the converter performance, appropriate reactive power compensation is guaranteed. Modulation indices are calculated based on detailed harmonic evaluations of both dynamic and steady-state operation modes, which is considered as the main contribution of this paper in comparison with other methods. As another novelty of this paper, circulating current control is accomplished by embedding an additional second harmonic component in the modulation process. The proposed control method leads to an effective reduction in capacitor voltage fluctuation and losses. Finally, converter’s maximum stable operation range is modified, which provides efficiency enhancements and also stability assurance. The proficiency and functionality of the proposed controller are demonstrated through detailed theoretical analysis and simulations with MATLAB/Simulink

    Linear-Array Photoacoustic Imaging Using Minimum Variance-Based Delay Multiply and Sum Adaptive Beamforming Algorithm

    In Photoacoustic imaging (PA), Delay-and-Sum (DAS) beamformer is a common beamforming algorithm having a simple implementation. However, it results in a poor resolution and high sidelobes. To address these challenges, a new algorithm namely Delay-Multiply-and-Sum (DMAS) was introduced having lower sidelobes compared to DAS. To improve the resolution of DMAS, a novel beamformer is introduced using Minimum Variance (MV) adaptive beamforming combined with DMAS, so-called Minimum Variance-Based DMAS (MVB-DMAS). It is shown that expanding the DMAS equation results in multiple terms representing a DAS algebra. It is proposed to use the MV adaptive beamformer instead of the existing DAS. MVB-DMAS is evaluated numerically and experimentally. In particular, at the depth of 45 mm MVB-DMAS results in about 31 dB, 18 dB and 8 dB sidelobes reduction compared to DAS, MV and DMAS, respectively. The quantitative results of the simulations show that MVB-DMAS leads to improvement in full-width-half-maximum about 96 %, 94 % and 45 % and signal-to-noise ratio about 89 %, 15 % and 35 % compared to DAS, DMAS, MV, respectively. In particular, at the depth of 33 mm of the experimental images, MVB-DMAS results in about 20 dB sidelobes reduction in comparison with other beamformers.Comment: This is the final version of this paper, which is accepted in the "Journal of Biomedical Optics".
