Pelaksana bay al-inah dalam pembiayaan peribadi (personal loan) di Malaysia

Sistem kewangan Islam bukanlah merupakan suatu sistem yang popular di kalangan masyarakat Malaysia untuk sekian lamanya kecuali setelah mencapai era 80’an yang menyaksikan reformasi masyarakat yang berkehendakkan kepada sebuah sistem kewangan berteraskan Islam. Keinginan masyarakat ini telah menjadi faktor pendorong kepada kerajaan dalam merangka sebuah struktur baru ke arah pembangunan produk kewangan Islam terutamanya setelah melihat kejayaan sistem perbankan Islam di negara-negara lain . Dalam menjayakan hasrat murni ini semua sektor sama ada sektor kerajaan mahupun swasta berganding bahu dalam menjayakannya. Pembiayaan peribadi ataupun personal loan merupakan antara produk yang menjadi pilihan utama masyarakat dalam memenuhi keperluan kewangan mereka. Pembiayaan peribadi Islam yang mengaplikasikan kaedah Bay al-Inah telah diperkenalkan di Malaysia. Bay al-Inah merupakan kontrak yang menimbulkan kontroversi di kalangan umat Islam sedunia dalam penerimaan serta penolakannya telah menjadi perbahasan utama di kalangan sarjana-sarjana Islam. Bay al-Inah yang mengandungi unsur hilah dalam transaksinya dilihat sebagai usaha untuk “menghalalkan” riba. Walaupun penuh dengan kontroversi, namun pelaksanaannya di Malaysia telah berjaya berjaya menjana tahap ekonomi serta survival masyarakat Islam di negara ini di samping memelihara kemaslahatan masyarakat Islam daripada terus terjerumus dalam aktiviti perbankan konvensional yang berteraskan riba, gharar dan sebagainya lagi yang mengabaikan faktor-faktor keharmonian dalam Islam

Bioconversion of biomass residue from the cultivation of pea sprouts on spent Pleurotus sajor-caju compost employing Lumbricus rubellus

Vermicomposting is a green technology for the purpose of nutrient enrichment from a variety of organic waste products. In this study, saw dust-based spent mushroom compost (SMC), an organic waste and biomass residue, was used as a medium for the cultivation of pea sprouts. After harvesting the pea sprouts, the growth medium was reused to culture earthworms, Lumbricus rubellus. The culturing activity was conducted for 50 days without any pre-composting or thermocomposting. Thus duration of vermicomposting process was shortened as opposed to previous work on vermicomposting of saw dust-based SMC (no amendment) for 70 days. The culturing treatments were conducted in triplicate, including one treatment without earthworms as the control. The analysis showed that concentrations of macronutrients in vermicompost were higher compared to controls, in which N = 4.12%, P = 2.07% and K = 1.56%. The C:N ratio was 11.77, which indicates a stabilisation and maturity of the organic waste compost, compared with the C:N ratio for the control, which was 59.34. At the end of the experiment, increment of total biomass and number of earthworms were observed and no mortality was recorded. The results suggested that vermicomposting could be used as an environmentally valuable technology to convert saw dust used for mushroom and pea sprouts cultivation into vermicompost or bio-fertiliser by employing L. rubellus

Aplikasi teknologi ICT hijau di pejabat

Teknologi ICT hijau merupakan program mesra alam yang berkaitan dengan kepenggunaan peralatan ICT secara efisien di pejabat.Pada masa kini kajian terhadap aplikasi teknologi ICT hijau di sektor perkhidmatan awam amat kurang diberi perhatian berbanding di sektor swasta.Kajian ini bertujuan untuk mengkaji tahap pengetahuan di kalangan pekerja tentang kepentingan untuk mengaplikasikan teknologi ICT hijau di pejabat.Dapatan kajian menggunakan temubual secara bersemuka bersama 36 responden dari tiga buah institusi pengajian tinggi awam. Secara keseluruhan, dapatan kajian menunjukkan 54% responden mempraktiskan prosedur teknologi ICT hijau manakala 46% responden tidak mempraktiskannya walaupun secara umumnya mereka mengetahui bahawa institusi mereka mempunyai prosedur untuk mengaplikasi kaedah tersebut. Oleh itu kajian ini menyarankan agar agensi yang berwajib khasnya Kementerian Tenaga, Teknologi Hijau dan Air menjalankan promosi secara intensif ke seluruh sektor awam agar dapat mengurangkan kepenggunaan tenaga dan kos operasi serta dapat menangani isu dunia seperti pemanasan global dan pelepasan berlebihan CO2

Microfinance and women entrepreneurs’ business performance: the mediating role of social capital

These days, women are believed as changing the global economy as entrepreneurs, consumers and workers. More women have been involved in entrepreneurship and play vital role as part of economic growth.Women entrepreneurs are look forward to give strong contribution to boost economic growth by reducing poverty, drive Malaysia towards the goal of becoming a high income, sustainable and inclusive economy by 2020.The Malaysian Government has allocated RM 200 million in 2016’s Budget for micro-financing facility by Amanah Ikhtiar Malaysia (AIM) to increase women participation in entrepreneurship and expand their existing business.Most literatures claim microfinance and social capital seem cannot be separated and play important role in the entrepreneurial process and crucial for the business performance.Thus, the mediator role of social capital is studied in this paper.190 respondents under the umbrella of Amanah Ikhtiar Malaysia (AIM) were involved in the questionnaire-based survey.Consequently, this study expected to contribute empirical evidence on the relationship between microfinance on women entrepreneurs’ business performance and the mediating role of social capital in the relationship

Musharakah Mutanaqisah Home Financing Products: An Implementation Analysis, Product Advantages and Issues at Citibank (Malaysia) Berhad

Banking institutions in Malaysia consists of two categories, the full-fledge Islamic banks and interest-free banking scheme. Banks offering Islamic products that are purely local and some from outside, such as Citibank (Malaysia). This research discuses the concept of Musharakah Mutanaqisah in Islamic transaction and its application in the home financing product at Citibank Malaysia Berhad. The research focuses on how does this syariah concept apply on Islamic home financing product, their advantages, issues and challenges that was faced by this institution. In order to achieve the objectives of the research, the researcher used the library and fields work methods to collect the data. The data collected was analyzed using the methods of inductive and deductive and comparative. This research shows that home financing through Musharakah Mutanaqisah is a new product, offered from 2005. Musharakah Mutanaqisah is a hybrid contract and created by some elements like ijarah, al-bay‘, Musharakah. Research finding also shows that the impact of the use of Musharakah Mutanaqisah instrument is better than previous contract like BBA. This indirectly explain to us how conventional banks like Citibank offers Islamic banking products through Windows Islamic Banking schemes

Environmental design criteria to stimulate creative thinking a case study of polytechnic campus in Merlimau Melaka

Outdoor learning environment (OLE) is one of the important factors that can affect students’ well- being. Besides the formal classroom-based learning, research has proven that the layout of OLE and its physical setting can influence students’ attitude, mood, behaviour and their academic achievement (Samsudin, 2007). The same notion stated by Johnson (2000) that OLE can be the place or “facility” that can support the learning process. OLE is also known as refuge spaces for the students to escape from the demanding university’s life, thus it is not surprising that most of the current campus landscape planning are focusing more on achieving highest level of students’ comfort and safety. Unfortunately, even with all these studies to improve student’s well being, there is lack of understanding on how OLE can be a place that helps to stimulate students’ creative thinking. This is a major concern due to the fact that higher learning institution should also provide the students with environments that can nurture their creativity. According to Samsudin (2007), high-quality campus environment can also generate ‘self- questioning’ or new discovery and able to encourage critical discussion among the students. Therefore, this study attempt to identify significant environmental design criteria associated with higher learning institution OLE that can be used to promote and enhance students’ creative thinking particularly from the students’ perspectives. Using survey questionnaires, a total of 90 students’ respondents from Civil Engineering, Architecture, and Land Survey programs from Merlimau Polytechnic in Melaka were involved in the study. Result of this study shows that environmental condition, activities provided and landscape elements are the important factors that can shape students’ behavior and their attitudes. It was also found that OLE with fun activities and colourful landscape can also enhance the process of developing ideas and improving students’ excellence

The implementation of Islamic banking system in Malaysia: Awareness among banking staff

In Malaysia, a relatively new but fast developing sub-sect of the financial sector is the Islamic banking and industry.Despite its recent history, Malaysia’s Islamic Banking institutions (IBIs) have dramatically increased in number and currently have seventeen (17) full-fledged and emerging Islamic Banking Institutions.It has been observed that despite the current global economic recession, the Islamic finance and banking industry has sustained its growth at extraordinary levels, having now become an essential part of global financial services landscape.The development of IBIs normally has been effected by internal and external environment, but the most important of development is on IBIs’ products and services.The aim of this paper is provide a conceptual understanding on history and development of IBIs by exploring the awareness facing by banking staff towards Islamic banking systems in Malaysia
