    Get PDF
Nourishment is a necessity of every living being that can only resist death and grow by incorporating in its body elements selected from the outside world called food. Like so many other vital needs, food could not be exempted from religious interference, in the form of taboos and other types of restrictions, either to avoid the violation of these norms in the form of sin, or to tax the deity with a tribute of latria in the form of sacrifices, or even to compensate for the delighted pleasure of eating. Thus, food restrictions and rites, initially sacral, were imposed, many of which subsist under sometimes complex protocol forms. These interdictions dealt with types of food considered “unclean” and certain sections of the calendar considered “of penance”. Many of these norms still exist, others have been lost, but others have been born (or reborn) as mushrooms

Clan structure analysis and new physics signals in pp collisions at LHC

The study of possible new physics signals in global event properties in pp collisions in full phase space and in rapidity intervals accessible at LHC is presented. The main characteristic is the presence of an elbow structure in final charged particle MD's in addition to the shoulder observed at lower c.m. energies.Comment: 9 pages, talk given at Focus on Multiplicity (Bari, Italy, June 2004

Building the agenda and news frames about countries facing humanitarian crises: news values and selection of information sources

    Get PDF
The media are important actors in humanitarian crisis management and resolution, not only in the countries where crises occur, but also in the rest of the world, as media are frequently the only source of information for the population of Northern countries. Through semi-structured interviews with the International section editors of four Spanish newspapers, we study the influence of news values and news routines on the information about countries facing crisis. The editors privilege what they consider to be human-impact stories, but also those involving Spanish economic or strategic interests or having closer emotional ties to their readers

Scenarios for multiplicity distributions in pp collisions in the TeV energy region

Possible scenarios based on available experimental data and phenomenological knowledge of the GeV energy region are extended to the TeV energy region in the framework of the weighted superposition mechanism of soft and semi-hard events. KNO scaling violations, forward-backward multiplicity correlations, Hq vs. q oscillations and shoulder structures are discussed.Comment: 10 pages, 10 figures, talk given at "Focus on Multiplicity" (Bari, Italy, June 2004

    Get PDF
------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The media plays an important role in relation to public service. As a result, it faces a great need for information regulation, especially in relation to major events, such as disasters and humanitarian crises. The media, however, does appear committed to solving problems related to their coverage of highly sensitive topics and events. For this study, we analysed newsroom codes of conducts, stylebooks, and other tools of self-regulation, noting the absence of specific recommendations for properly following reporting etiquette in these types of scenarios. Furthermore, an additional study of documents from professional, academic and social organizations showed fragmented and unfocused recommendations for proper etiquette when reporting on sensitive situations. We used these fragments as a starting point to develop a compendium of proposals to help instill the social function of journalism when reporting on disasters and humanitarian crises
