Chaotic saddles in nonlinear modulational interactions in a plasma
A nonlinear model of modulational processes in the subsonic regime involving
a linearly unstable wave and two linearly damped waves with different damping
rates in a plasma is studied numerically. We compute the maximum Lyapunov
exponent as a function of the damping rates in a two-parameter space, and
identify shrimp-shaped self-similar structures in the parameter space. By
varying the damping rate of the low-frequency wave, we construct bifurcation
diagrams and focus on a saddle-node bifurcation and an interior crisis
associated with a periodic window. We detect chaotic saddles and their stable
and unstable manifolds, and demonstrate how the connection between two chaotic
saddles via coupling unstable periodic orbits can result in a crisis-induced
intermittency. The relevance of this work for the understanding of modulational
processes observed in plasmas and fluids is discussed.Comment: Physics of Plasmas, in pres
The Poisson Bracket for Poisson Forms in Multisymplectic Field Theory
We present a general definition of the Poisson bracket between differential
forms on the extended multiphase space appearing in the geometric formulation
of first order classical field theories and, more generally, on exact
multisymplectic manifolds. It is well defined for a certain class of
differential forms that we propose to call Poisson forms and turns the space of
Poisson forms into a Lie superalgebra.Comment: 40 pages LaTe
Resonance Zones and Lobe Volumes for Volume-Preserving Maps
We study exact, volume-preserving diffeomorphisms that have heteroclinic
connections between a pair of normally hyperbolic invariant manifolds. We
develop a general theory of lobes, showing that the lobe volume is given by an
integral of a generating form over the primary intersection, a subset of the
heteroclinic orbits. Our definition reproduces the classical action formula in
the planar, twist map case. For perturbations from a heteroclinic connection,
the lobe volume is shown to reduce, to lowest order, to a suitable integral of
a Melnikov function.Comment: ams laTeX, 8 figure
Nonequilibrium Approach to Bloch-Peierls-Berry Dynamics
We examine the Bloch-Peierls-Berry dynamics under a classical nonequilibrium
dynamical formulation. In this formulation all coordinates in phase space
formed by the position and crystal momentum space are treated on equal footing.
Explicitly demonstrations of the no (naive) Liouville theorem and of the
validity of Darboux theorem are given. The explicit equilibrium distribution
function is obtained. The similarities and differences to previous approaches
are discussed. Our results confirm the richness of the Bloch-Peierls-Berry
dynamics
Optimalisasi Penjadwalan, Perawatan Dan Perbaikan Pembangkit PLTD 20 KV Dengan Levelized Reserve Method
The power system reliability is one of aspect in the power system operation. One factor influences the power system scheduling is system maintenance. Same method a used in the maintenance scheduling. i.e , GA (Genetic Algorithm) method, GSM (Generator Maintenance Scheduling) method, RBM (Risk-based maintenance) method, Annealing method and Levelized Reserve Method (LRM). LRM is used with the basis of balance of reserve capacity . LRM method is the divided two method, Levelized Reserve Capacty Method (LRCM) and Levelized Reserve Rate Method (LRRM). The mentenance scheduling optimisation in the riset includes two solution and five step. The best solution is proposed to be implemented in the maintenance scheduling of Region IX Maluku and North Maluku 20 Kv branch Ambon. Solution I stage 4 LRCM and solutions I stage 4 LRRM. The result of 22 generating units with capacity varying power unit, it can perform maintenance on 12 units. The balance of power throughout the duration of the reserve maintenance period can be met, namely to methods LRCM the results ranged 13.6 MW - 16.2 MW, while the result for the method LRRM range of 13.6 MW - 17.2 MW. The calculation of the initial backup highest power rating in accordance with the method Lrrm is 0.53% and the highest end of the reserve power of 0.39%.Index Terms â Optimization of scheduling , LRM, LRCM, LRRM
Within-Home versus Between-Home Variability of House Dust Endotoxin in a Birth Cohort
Endotoxin exposure has been proposed as an environmental determinant of allergen responses in children. To better understand the implications of using a single measurement of house dust endotoxin to characterize exposure in the first year of life, we evaluated room-specific within-home and between-home variability in dust endotoxin obtained from 470 households in Boston, Massachusetts. Homes were sampled up to two times over 5â11 months. We analyzed 1,287 dust samples from the kitchen, family room, and babyâs bedroom for endotoxin. We fit a mixed-effects model to estimate mean levels and the variation of endotoxin between homes, between rooms, and between sampling times. Endotoxin ranged from 2 to 1,945 units per milligram of dust. Levels were highest during summer and lowest in the winter. Mean endotoxin levels varied significantly from room to room. Cross-sectionally, endotoxin was moderately correlated between family room and bedroom floor (r = 0.30), between family room and kitchen (r = 0.32), and between kitchen and bedroom (r = 0.42). Adjusting for season, the correlation of endotoxin levels within homes over time was 0.65 for both the bedroom and kitchen and 0.54 for the family room. The temporal within-home variance of endotoxin was lowest for bedroom floor samples and highest for kitchen samples. Between-home variance was lowest in the family room and highest for kitchen samples. Adjusting for season, within-home variation was less than between-home variation for all three rooms. These results suggest that room-to-room and home-to-home differences in endotoxin influence the total variability more than factors affecting endotoxin levels within a room over time
Signatures of Radiation Reaction in Ultra-Intense Laser Fields
We discuss radiation reaction effects on charges propagating in ultra-intense
laser fields. Our analysis is based on an analytic solution of the
Landau-Lifshitz equation. We suggest to measure radiation reaction in terms of
a symmetry breaking parameter associated with the violation of null translation
invariance in the direction opposite to the laser beam. As the Landau-Lifshitz
equation is nonlinear the energy transfer within the pulse is rather sensitive
to initial conditions. This is elucidated by comparing colliding and fixed
target modes in electron laser collisions.Comment: 8 pages, 6 figure
Topological Modes in Dual Lattice Models
Lattice gauge theory with gauge group is reconsidered in four
dimensions on a simplicial complex . One finds that the dual theory,
formulated on the dual block complex , contains topological modes
which are in correspondence with the cohomology group ,
in addition to the usual dynamical link variables. This is a general phenomenon
in all models with single plaquette based actions; the action of the dual
theory becomes twisted with a field representing the above cohomology class. A
similar observation is made about the dual version of the three dimensional
Ising model. The importance of distinct topological sectors is confirmed
numerically in the two dimensional Ising model where they are parameterized by

Noether symmetries for two-dimensional charged particle motion
We find the Noether point symmetries for non-relativistic two-dimensional
charged particle motion. These symmetries are composed of a quasi-invariance
transformation, a time-dependent rotation and a time-dependent spatial
translation. The associated electromagnetic field satisfy a system of
first-order linear partial differential equations. This system is solved
exactly, yielding three classes of electromagnetic fields compatible with
Noether point symmetries. The corresponding Noether invariants are derived and
interpreted
