    Within the framework of sheet metal forming, the importance of hardening models for springback predictions has been often emphasized. While some specific applications require very accurate models, in many common situations simpler (isotropic hardening) models may be sufficient. In these conditions, investigation of the impact of hardening models requires well defined test configurations and accurate measurements to generate the reference data. Specific draw-bend tests have been especially conceived for this purpose. In this work, such a draw-bending experimental device has been designed, for use on a biaxial tension machine. Three different steel sheets have been tested (one mild steel sheet and two HSS sheets) with thicknesses between 0.8 and 2 mm. Up to three different back-force levels were used for the tests. Wall curvatures and springback angles were measured. Finite element simulations of the tests were performed. A parameter sensitivity analysis has been carried out in order to determine the numerical parameters ensuring accurate springback results. The tests were simulated using an isotropic hardening model and a combined isotropic-kinematic hardening model. The impact of the hardening model is explored for the various test configurations and conclusions are drawn concerning their relative importance.ANR Forme

    Association of computed tomography measures of muscle and adipose tissue and progressive changes throughout treatment with clinical endpoints in patients with advanced lung cancer treated with immune checkpoint inhibitors

    To investigate the association between skeletal muscle mass and adiposity measures with disease-free progression (DFS) and overall survival (OS) in patients with advanced lung cancer receiving immunotherapy, we retrospectively analysed 97 patients (age: 67.5 ± 10.2 years) with lung cancer who were treated with immunotherapy between March 2014 and June 2019. From computed tomography scans, we assessed the radiological measures of skeletal muscle mass, and intramuscular, subcutaneous and visceral adipose tissue at the third lumbar vertebra. Patients were divided into two groups based on specific or median values at baseline and changes throughout treatment. A total number of 96 patients (99.0 %) had disease progression (median of 11.3 months) and died (median of 15.4 months) during follow-up. Increases of 10 % in intramuscular adipose tissue were significantly associated with DFS (HR: 0.60, 95 % CI: 0.38 to 0.95) and OS (HR: 0.60, 95 % CI: 0.37 to 0.95), while increases of 10 % in subcutaneous adipose tissue were associated with DFS (HR: 0.59, 95 % CI: 0.36 to 0.95). These results indicate that, although muscle mass and visceral adipose tissue were not associated with DFS or OS, changes in intramuscular and subcutaneous adipose tissue can predict immunotherapy clinical outcomes in patients with advanced lung cancer

    Non-secretory multiple myeloma with extramedulary plasmocytoma

    Non-secretory multiple myeloma (NSMM) is an uncommon variation of the classic form of multiple myeloma (MM) that has au analogous clinical and radiologic presentation except for the absence of the M-protein in sernm and/or urine. NSMM may have or not detectable monoclonal free light chain in urine/serum. We describe here a case of a 46-year-old woman who presented with back pain and lower limb weakness. A tumour lesion at DI level and multiple osteolytic bone lesions were found. This woman had no other symptoms and her basic blood biochemistry were nonnal. She had normal serum and urine protein electrophoresis. Biopsy from the D1 vertebra showed plasmocytoma. In the bone marrow, 20% atypical plasma cell fow1d, all were being CD38+ and CD 138+ in flowcytometry, confirming the diagnosis of myeloma presenting as NSMM. A high index of suspicion is needed to diagnose cases like this, as the biology ofNSMM is not completely understood

    Successful Salvage Treatment of Resistant Acute Antibody-Mediated Kidney Transplant Rejection with Eculizumab

    Antibody-mediated rejection (ABMR) jeopardises short- and long-term transplant survival and remains a challenge in the field of organ transplantation. We report the first use of the anticomplement agent eculizumab in Oman in the treatment of a 61-year-old female patient with ABMR following a living unrelated kidney transplant. The patient was admitted to the Sultan Qaboos University Hospital in Muscat, Oman, in 2013 on the eighth day post-transplantation with serum creatinine (Cr) levels of 400 ÎŒmol/L which continued to rise, necessitating haemodialysis. A biopsy indicated ABMR with acute cellular rejection. No improvement was observed following standard ABMR treatment and she continued to require dialysis. Five doses of eculizumab were administered over six weeks with a subsequent dramatic improvement in renal function. The patient became dialysis-free with serum Cr levels of 119 ÎŒmol/L within four months. This case report indicates that eculizumab is a promising agent in the treatment of ABMR

    Thermal investigation into the Oldroyd-B hybrid nanofluid with the slip and Newtonian heating effect: Atangana–Baleanu fractional simulation

    The significance of thermal conductivity, convection, and heat transportation of hybrid nanofluids (HNFs) based on different nanoparticles has enhanced an integral part in numerous industrial and natural processes. In this article, a fractionalized Oldroyd-B HNF along with other significant effects, such as Newtonian heating, constant concentration, and the wall slip condition on temperature close to an infinitely vertical flat plate, is examined. Aluminum oxide (Al2O3) and ferro-ferric oxide (Fe3O4) are the supposed nanoparticles, and water (H2O) and sodium alginate (C6H9NaO7) serve as the base fluids. For generalized memory effects, an innovative fractional model is developed based on the recently proposed Atangana–Baleanu time-fractional (AB) derivative through generalized Fourier and Fick’s law. This Laplace transform technique is used to solve the fractional governing equations of dimensionless temperature, velocity, and concentration profiles. The physical effects of diverse flow parameters are discussed and exhibited graphically by Mathcad software. We have considered 0.15≀α≀0.85,2≀Pr⁥≀9,5≀Gr≀20,0.2≀ϕ1,ϕ2≀0.8,3.5≀Gm≀8, 0.1≀ Sc ≀0.8, and 0.3≀λ1,λ2≀1.7. Moreover, for validation of our present results, some limiting models, such as classical Maxwell and Newtonian fluid models, are recovered from the fractional Oldroyd-B fluid model. Furthermore, comparing the results between Oldroyd-B, Maxwell, and viscous fluid models for both classical and fractional cases, Stehfest and Tzou numerical methods are also employed to secure the validity of our solutions. Moreover, it is visualized that for a short time, temperature and momentum profiles are decayed for larger values of α, and this effect is reversed for a long time. Furthermore, the energy and velocity profiles are higher for water-based HNFs than those for the sodium alginate-based HNF

    Assessment of health-related quality of life of COVID-19 patients during follow-up

    Background: The COVID-19 pandemic has had a significant impact on the quality of life of individuals worldwide. The aim of this study was to assess the health-related quality of life (HRQOL) and its associated factors among COVID-19 patients discharged from hospital. Methods: This facility-based cross-sectional study was conducted among laboratory confirmed COVID-19 patients who were discharged from medicine department of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University and did their first-month follow-up from April to September 2021. A validated Bengali version of International Quality of Life Assessment, Short form – 36 (SF-36) questionnaire was used to assess the HRQOL status. Univariate and multivariate analyses were done for identifying factors associated with low HRQOL. Result: Out of 225 patients, the mean (standard deviation) age was 36.9 (14.2) years and four in every ten patients were women. Out of eight subgroups, almost all scored averagely 79 out of 100. Older age, rural residence and severe to critical disease was reported as factors for low physical and mental component summary of SF-36. Conclusion: COVID-19 patients with older age, rural residence and having severe to critical disease condition need to be addressed critically as they have a higher chance of having low HRQOL status after COVID-19 infection.
