The objective of the study is to investigate the administrative staff’s participation in decision-making through the principle of Shura or consultation at International Islamic Tertiary Education Institution. The study involved purposive sampling of 255 non-academic administrative staff at the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) from all Kulliyyahs, Centres, and, Divisions. This research used a set of survey questionnaire as means of gathering data on participatory decision-making among respondents. The Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS) version 20 was used to organize and summarize the information gathered since the nature of research is exploratory. The result of the study shows that the highest percentage for the all five items in the scale is “Mostly” which is 37.56% followed by “Often” which is 34.04% then average mean of “Always” is 13.16%. This is followed by “Occasionally” with 10.98% and the last is “Never” that recorded 4.24%. However, the average mean score to all the 5 items is 3.44 and Standard Deviation is 0.992 which indicate that the system of Shura was implemented and the majority of the staff participated in the decision-making through the system of Shura at IIUM. The high participation of staff in decision making may improve the employer-employee relationships, enhances productivity, effective administration and promotes transparent, accountability and good governance in the organization

Education research around the world has witnessed unprecedented technology integrated curriculum aiming at exploring the potentials of innovative technology tools on teaching and learning practices. Augmented Reality (AR) becomes the latest technology embedded in pedagogical strategies to enhance effective teaching and learning specifically in language. This study attempted to explore AR integration in English subject as second language (ESL) in primary schools in Kuwait. The objectives were designed to explore: i. the perceived acceptance of teachers and students, ii. the strategies used by teachers in planning and implementing ESL classes using the AR, iii. students' and teachers’ motivation from the model of Attention, Relevance, Confidence & Satisfaction (ARCS), and iv. students' engagement. The study was designed as a case study via qualitative approach through employing semi-structured individual interviews with two ESL teachers and eight students from two primary schools in Kuwait. It was also incorporated two observations for each school. To compliment the pedagogical affordances of AR, the study proposed an AR-aided module. The findings reveal that teachers and students of AR classroom context have perceived acceptance not only from usefulness and ease of use but also the willingness to use AR in the future. The students' engagement is evidenced from their enjoyment and interest. The teachers' and students' motivation have been maximized. Lastly, the efficacy and practicality of the AR model framework incorporating the Theory of Acceptance Model (TAM), Situated Learning Theory (SLT), and ARCS were materialised. The study has extended TAM with effectiveness as an additional factor, spearhead towards practical importance of the designed module

The research aimed to examine the state of Yemeni English major students’ knowledge of Internet-assisted language learning (IALL). Two types of knowledge were assessed, i.e. subjective knowledge and objective knowledge. The study also sought to examine differences in these two types of knowledge among students by gender and discipline of study, and whether subjective knowledge and objective knowledge were significantly correlated. Simple random sampling was used to select a sample of 598 English language students from education- and non-education study programs of a Yemeni public university during the 2017 academic year. Data were collected using two separate instruments: a self-developed IALL questionnaire for objective knowledge, and an adapted subjective knowledge scale. Descriptive statistics, independent-samples t-tests and bivariate correlation were carried out with SPSS software Version 24. The results show a moderate level of perceived IALL knowledge, but lower levels of actual knowledge on various aspects of IALL, particularly with respect to tools mostly used for oral language practices, such as Skype, Busuu.com, Live Mocha and SharedLingo. Gender influenced perceived knowledge – with female students reporting significantly higher knowledge levels – but not objective knowledge, while discipline of study influenced both knowledge types in favor of students pursuing non-education degree programs. A significant but inverse relationship was discovered between subjective and objective knowledge. The results emphasize the need to start focusing on adopting IALL tools by English learners in universities across Yemen

The relationship between participatory decision-making (PDM) and job satisfaction (JS) has attracted the attention of researchers not only in the field of business industries but also education sector. However, the issue has not been given noteworthy priority in educational administration research let alone in Islamic tertiary institution context. Thus, the purpose of this study is threefold: 1) to validate the psychometric properties of administrative staff’s PDM and JS constructs, 2) to examine the degree of influence of administrative staff’s PDM on their JS, and 3) test the moderating role of staff’s working experience on the influence of PDM on JS. Using a quantitative survey approach, data were collected from 255 administrative staff working in different faculties, divisions, and centers of International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM). The study employed co-variance-based SEM by using AMOS version 24 in order to achieve the objectives. First, Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) was employed to test the psychometric properties (such as convergent validity, divergent validity, and reliability) for both PDM and JS. Second, a Full-Fledged SEM was conducted to test the influence of PDM on JS. Finally, to examine the moderating effect of the staff working experience in the relationship between PDM and JST, a multi-group analysis (MGA) was applied. The results confirmed that the multidimensional hypothesized model of PDM and JS were empirically valid and reliable. The results also revealed a statistically significant impact for PDM on JS. Besides, the working experience was found to have a moderating role in the effect of PDM on JS. The study suggests that administrative staff involvement in decision making process is highly required as it increases their job satisfaction

An integration of game-based learning in a classroom: an overview (2016 - 2021)

    No full text
Games are increasingly becoming common in learning environments, and to match the requirements of developing a course as a game, a variety of technologies have been developed. Besides education, game-based learning has been popular in other settings, including professional training and social media. By introducing gaming elements as a training method, game-based learning platforms will boost students’ engagement, motivation, and productivity. Game-based learning is more than just making games for students to play on the surface; it is also about establishing learning activities that gradually teach subjects and lead users to achieve goals. This paper reviews the two research elements: the instruments used and disciplines done by 21 researchers on the game-based learning approach. The findings show that most studies have remarkable results in developing the game-based learning method. Generally, game-based learning in education strikes the perfect balance between subject matter and gameplay and the students’ capacity to retain and apply that knowledge in real life. Nevertheless, more research in game-based learning qualities and elements is required to provide extensive knowledge on the adaptability of current technological systems
