Determination of composite slab strength using a new elemental test method

    Get PDF
Composite slabs utilizing cold-formed profiled steel decks are commonly used for floor systems in steel framed buildings. The behavior and strength of composite slabs are normally controlled by the horizontal shear bond between the steel deck and the concrete. The strength of the horizontal shear bond depends on many factors and it is not possible to provide representative design values that can be applied to all slab conditions a priori. Thus, present design standards require that the design parameters be obtained from full-size bending tests, which are typically one or two deck panels wide and a single span. However, because these full-size tests can be expensive and time consuming, smaller size specimens, referred to as elemental tests, are desirable and have been the subject of a great deal of research. Details for a new elemental test method for composite slab specimens under bending are presented. Test results consisting of maximum applied load, end slips, and failure modes are presented and compared with the results of full-size specimens with similar end details, spans, etc. It is shown that the performance of the elemental test developed in this study is in good agreement with the performance of the full-size specimens. Application of test data to current design specifications is also presented

: The study aims to analyze the rate of the water selling in approximately one year ahead with the best method analysis, by identifying the internal environment factor and the external firm factor, then formulates the strategy that is used by PDAM Sleman. The method uses in this research is the time series, the matrix Internal Factor Evaluation (IFE), External Factor Evaluation (EFE), and also the matrix Strength, Opportunity, and Threat (SWOT). The data is the actual selling of water from PDAM Kabupaten Sleman approximately 4 years since January 2010 to November 2013, known has the trend period (prone to increase). Then based on the matrix of IFE shows that the PDAM Sleman has the highest score of 0,444. The EFE matrix shows the highest possibility of PDAM Sleman is the huge market with the renewal water source, with the score of 0,511. Based on total score of IFE and EFE, it places PDAM Sleman in the V on the matrix of IE

Model Blended Learning dalam Meningkatkan Efektifitas Pembelajaran

In the 21st century learning is already entered to the digital era , which is many educational practitioners  have developed and designing a digital-based learning such as online learning.  However Online learning still needs the other learning namely face-to-face learning.  That is why Educational experts combine these two lessons mode into a new learning theory called by Blended Learning. Blended learning is a combination of online learning, offline learning, and face-to-face learning, because there are many  researchs prove that blended learning has more influential rather than online learning or face-to-face leaarning in improving students' learning intrest rather than online learning or face-to-face learning. Blended learning may apply by using these following combination namely 50/50, 75/25, or 25/75 from the learning period alocation. There are some cases need to be consideration in designing a blended learning, it is about how to make the learning is so interesting and suitable with the characteristic of students' learning style

Javanese Language and Culture in the Expression of Kebo Bule in Surakarta: an Ethnolinguistic Study

The phenomenon of Kebo Bule as the actuality of Javanese language and culture in Surakarta can be criticized from the perspective of ethnolinguistic. In terms of the descriptive qualitative expression of the language and culture of Java, Kebo Bule from the perspective of Ethnolinguistic is identifiable on the background of it in Surakarta, the influence of Kebo Bule to the Surakarta's Court, and the meaning of Kebo Bule as one of the magical icons of the Surakarta's Court. Ethnolinguistic as a theoretical concept is part of the branch of linguistic studies that seeks to study the language understanding in a broader context in order to express an understanding of the culture. Methodologically, understanding the relationship between the expression of language and culture Kebo Bule can be peeled using ethnomethodology to ethnolinguistics by utilizing ethnoscience (knowledge typically owned by ethnicity, tribe, people) to find the cultural themes of people related to their mindset and the worldview. The research data encompasses of oral and written data, verbal data sources from informants and writes from a library. The validity of the data was done by triangulation, and data analysis using ethnoscience (especially taxonomic, domain and componential analysis). Results of the discussion is presented in the form of narrative texts related to the background, the effect and meaning Kebo Bule for the existence of the language and culture of Java in Surakarta

    Matter wave soliton bouncer

Dynamics of a matter wave soliton bouncing on the reflecting surface (atomic mirror) under the effect of gravity has been studied by analytical and numerical means. The analytical description is based on the variational approach. Resonant oscillations of the soliton's center of mass and width, induced by appropriate modulation of the atomic scattering length and the slope of the linear potential are analyzed. In numerical experiments we observe the Fermi type acceleration of the soliton when the vertical position of the reflecting surface is periodically varied in time. Analytical predictions are compared with the results of numerical simulations of the Gross-Pitaevskii equation and qualitative agreement between them is found.Comment: 8 pages, 5 figure

Challenges and Opportunities to Improve Tuberculosis Screening Among Immigrant Plantation Workers in Sabah, Malaysia

    Get PDF
Tuberculosis (TB) among immigrants has substantial contribution to the TB epidemiology in Sabah. This study aimed to determine the yield of screening for TB disease among immigrant plantation workers in Sabah, Malaysia. This was a prospective cohort study involving 482 legal immigrant workers aged 18 years and above, consented and available at study sites during the study period. Workers with previous history of TB or currently on TB treatment were excluded from participation. Symptom based questionnaire was administered along with both chest radiograph and sputum samples collection for symptomatics participants. Out of 482 plantation workers creened, there was no case of active TB detected among the 44 (9.1%) symptomatics participants. Finding of low TB yield in this study was rather unexpected but this indicates the real challenges for the local health authority to come out with more cost effective screening programs, including reducing stigma, in active TB screening among migrant population
