    Expert System for Selection of Academic Programme (ESSAP)

    Expert system is one of the important application oriented branches of Artificial Intelligence. At the beginning of development expert systems in education, the area selected is application to selection of academic programme. ESSAP is a web-based system that are different from conventional computer programs as they can solve problems by mimicking human reasoning processes, relying on logic, belief, rules of thumb, opinion and experience. This system provides academic programme for School of Information Sciences & Engineering (SISE) at University College of Technology & Management Malaysia (KUTPM). The web programming languages of system implementation are PHP, JavaScript and CSS. The knowledge base was created using MySQL database server. ESSAP system provides advisory and recommendation for academic programme for the students based on their qualification and interests. The system would determine type of student's personalities from their interest, using Holland J. Theory

    Corporate governance and intellectual capital: evidence from public and private university / Akma Hidayu Dol @ Abdul Wahid, Nor 'Asyiqin Abu and Wannoraini Abdul Latif

    This study was conducted to examine the perception of the academicians towards intellectual capital (IC) and governance practice at University A (Public University) and University B (Private University). It also examines the factors to retain the qualified academicians and the relationship between IC and corporate governance (CG) in universities. Analysis reveals that CG is the second factor influences the attraction and retention of the IC. While the foremost factor that attracts academicians to join the universities is the possibility of universities giving opportunity for their academic advancement. Furthermore, the analysis shows that both universities have implemented good governance. However, University A should put more effort in improving its transparency related to accessing the accurate and relevant information, evaluation system, financial allocation and provision for facilities. It also needs to provide more encouragement in academician involvement towards the decision making processes, and thus, giving an opportunity to the academicians to give feedback and suggestion on how to improve the operations within the University. On the other hand, the findings show that University B is lacking in the support of training for career development, rewarding new ideas and outstanding output, creativity and innovation. The academicians in University B also perceived that the University is lack of sufficient support to do a research work and necessary resources to achieve the research target. Finally, statistical result shows a positive relationship between IC and CG. It means, the higher the CG the higher the IC would be retained by the university. This result is further supported by 71.1 percent of the respondents who do not have any intention of leaving the university

    Penyelidikan ini memberi penekanan kepada penggunaan teknologi maklumat dan komunikasi (ICT) dalam pembangunan pendidikan dan kerjaya pelajar. Tujuan penyelidikan ialah untuk membantu pelajar mendapatkan deskripsi yang tepat tentang diri, pemilihan kursus di peringkat pengajian tinggi, dan perancangan kerjaya masa hadapan. Faktor pemilihan adalah berdasarkan kepada kecerdasan dan personaliti pelajar. Penyelidik telah membangunkan sistem pemilihan kursus dan kerjaya yang dinamakan ‘Education and Career Guidance’. Terdapat lima komponen utama dalam sistem ini iaitu Ujian Kecerdasan Pelbagai, Ujian Pesonaliti, data kelayakan akademik dan peribadi pelajar. Sistem ini dapat membantu pelajar membuat keputusan yang lebih tepat dan praktikal. Sistem yang dibangunkan adalah berasaskan kepada Web. Bahasa pengaturcaraan yang digunakan adalah PHP dan MySQL sebagai pangkalan data. Algoritma yang digunakan dalam ujian adalah berdasarkan Teori Kecerdasan Pelbagai oleh Howard Gardner dan Teori Kerjaya John Holland. Kedua-dua teori ini digunakan dalam ujian yang disediakan. Model Spiral digunakan dalam proses pembangunan perisian. Kaedah kajian pula berdasarkan kepada pendekatan tinjauan dan pemerhatian. Subjek kajian ialah guru kaunselor dan pelajar tingkatan 6 atas, Sekolah Menengah Seksyen 16, Shah Alam. Penilaian yang dilakukan menunjukkan bahawa kebanyakan pelajar bersetuju bahawa sistem ini dapat membantu mereka dalam pemilihan kursus dan kerjaya masa hadapan mereka.
