Evaluating probabilistic programming languages for simulating quantum correlations
This article explores how probabilistic programming can be used to simulate
quantum correlations in an EPR experimental setting. Probabilistic programs are
based on standard probability which cannot produce quantum correlations. In
order to address this limitation, a hypergraph formalism was programmed which
both expresses the measurement contexts of the EPR experimental design as well
as associated constraints. Four contemporary open source probabilistic
programming frameworks were used to simulate an EPR experiment in order to shed
light on their relative effectiveness from both qualitative and quantitative
dimensions. We found that all four probabilistic languages successfully
simulated quantum correlations. Detailed analysis revealed that no language was
clearly superior across all dimensions, however, the comparison does highlight
aspects that can be considered when using probabilistic programs to simulate

Effectiveness of Endophytic Bacterial Consortium of Coffee Plant on Mortality of Pratylenchus Coffeae in Vitro
Bacteria live in wild in form of a consortium. Use of microbial consortium tends to give better results than single isolate, because the action of enzyme of each type of microbe can complement each other in order to survive. This study aimed to study the effectiveness of bacterial endophytic consortium from coffee plant on plant growth and mortality of parasitic nematodes in coffee. Isolation of bacteria is conducted by growing the crushed roots, stems and leaves of coffee on 20% TSA media, then testing their hemolysis and hypersensitivity reaction. Selected isolates were tested on their effect on the growth of seedling and Pratylenchus coffeae mortality, as well as their chitinolytic, proteolytic, lipolytic, HCN production, dissolution of phosphate (P) and fixation of nitrogen (N2) abilities. The results showed that from 27 isolates of the consortium, 23 isolates showed negative reaction to hypersensitive test and 9 isolates to hemolysis test. The highest mortality rate was shown by K6 isolate (65.8%). The highest growth was shown by K15 and K 21 isolates while the highest root length by K21 isolate. Further analisys showed that 100% of the isolates could hydrolyze proteases, lipid, and produce HCN, while chitinolytic activity was shown by 78% isolates which could fix N2 and 11% of isolates could dissolve phosphate

The telecommunication industry in Malaysia has grown rapidly over the last 15 years, with effective supply chain management becoming increasing important within the sector. A multitude of providers and part owned Malaysian government companies, vendors and suppliers are involved in generating and creating value-adding products and services within this sector (across wireless, wireline, broadband business and consumer lines of business). This paper describes key challenges facing a major telecoms service provider in Malaysia with regards to drivers involved in the overall procurement and supplier selection with regards to components of performance management, decision-making, selection techniques, quality and cost management, procurement policy and procurement ethics. This paper further focuses on defining and detailing research currently being undertaken to develop a framework for identifying supplier selection drivers that are inherent within the sector and suggests a research approach to investigate and develop strategies for supplier selection for the telecommunications industry in Malaysia
A bridgeless Cuk PFC converter
A bridgeless Power Factor Correction (PFC) circuit based on Cuk converter is proposed in this paper. The operation during each sub-interval modes of the converter operated in Discontinuous Conduction Mode (DCM) is discussed. The smallsignal and large signal models are presented using Current Injected Equivalent Circuit Approach (CIECA). PLECS/Simulink is used to verify the capability of the proposed converter to regulate the output voltage while the input current regulation is inherent. This converter is capable to operate in universal input voltage condition
Successful retrieval of competing spatial environments in humans involves hippocampal pattern separation mechanisms.
The rodent hippocampus represents different spatial environments distinctly via changes in the pattern of "place cell" firing. It remains unclear, though, how spatial remapping in rodents relates more generally to human memory. Here participants retrieved four virtual reality environments with repeating or novel landmarks and configurations during high-resolution functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI). Both neural decoding performance and neural pattern similarity measures revealed environment-specific hippocampal neural codes. Conversely, an interfering spatial environment did not elicit neural codes specific to that environment, with neural activity patterns instead resembling those of competing environments, an effect linked to lower retrieval performance. We find that orthogonalized neural patterns accompany successful disambiguation of spatial environments while erroneous reinstatement of competing patterns characterized interference errors. These results provide the first evidence for environment-specific neural codes in the human hippocampus, suggesting that pattern separation/completion mechanisms play an important role in how we successfully retrieve memories
Current reversals in a rocking ratchet: the frequency domain
Motivated by recent work [D. Cubero et al., Phys. Rev. E 82, 041116 (2010)],
we examine the mechanisms which determine current reversals in rocking ratchets
as observed by varying the frequency of the drive. We found that a class of
these current reversals in the frequency domain are precisely determined by
dissipation-induced symmetry breaking. Our experimental and theoretical work
thus extends and generalizes the previously identified relationship between
dynamical and symmetry-breaking mechanisms in the generation of current
reversals
