    Get PDF
The prevalence of Helicobacter Pylori (H. Pylori) infection for the Somali population has increased, and there is a significant need to expand Health Care Providers’ (HCPs’) knowledge regarding the correlation between Somali cultural practice and the transmission of H. Pylori infection. HCPs have a central role in the early detection and management of H. Pylori infection, as well as making valid diagnosis and treatment decisions that minimize the risk of complications. The purpose of this Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) project was to evaluate HCPs\u27 knowledge regarding H. Pylori infection treatment management, guidelines usability, and Somali culture awareness to identify where the knowledge gap exists. Evidence-based practice was combined with cultural knowledge to present best practice for educational resources related to the treatment of H. Pylori infection to improve outcomes in the Somali immigrant population. This quality improvement (QI) project presents an algorithm to increase HCPs confidence and knowledge of best practices in H. Pylori infection treatment in the Somali population

The aim of this study was to investigate the role of resistance training (RT) on advanced glycation end products (AGEs) concentrations in postmenopausal women with type II diabetes. Postmenopausal female patients from the Sanandaj Diabetes Association, aged 48-58 years, were randomly assigned to either experimental (n=7) or control (n=8) group. The experimental group has performed a routine program of resistance training for eight weeks, three sessions per week with 70% of one repetition maximum. The control group did not have any type of exercise program during the study. Two-way ANOVA with repeated measures showed that advanced glycation end products’ values in the experimental group (compared with the pre-test) was significantly reduced (p=.014). Similarly, AGEs concentrations were significantly lower in the post-test in the experimental group compared with the control group (p=.000). In addition, fasting blood glucose (FBS) levels in the experimental group after 8-week resistance training was associated with a significant reduction (p=.005). The findings suggest that eight weeks of RT reduced blood glucose concentrations, which lead to decreased levels of advanced glycation end products in postmenopausal women with type II diabetes

Digital Entrepreneurship Dimensions and Strategies: Crowdsourcing and Digital Financing

[EN] This paper aims to investigate an agile, knowledge-based, innovative, and integrated solution for businesses, i.e., Digital entrepreneurship, which means creating new ventures and transforming existing businesses by developing novel digital technologies and novel usage of such technologies. On the one hand, financing the projects is unaffordable for the companies, and a crowdsourcing platform is a good way to mitigate the burden of expenditure. The Digital Entrepreneurship process is a multidisciplinary field: developing software is rooted in information systems (IS), conceptualising business models, and formulating strategy. In addition to that, digital entrepreneurship is located at the junction of knowledge, business, and institutional entrepreneurship. This complicated nature of digital entrepreneurship requires a strategy. The type of opportunities they pursue characterises the strategy of formation and sustainability for a new venture; therefore, the entrepreneurs need to select strategies to make the best position according to their resources or the attainable resources through crowdsourcing. We shed light on the importance of crowdsourcing to have a successful stateÂżofÂżtheÂżart business after reviewing the background of digital entrepreneurship, crowdsourcing, and the digital entrepreneurship strategy.GarrigĂłs SimĂłn, FJ.; Alizadeh Moghadam, SS.; Abdi, L.; Pourmirali, Z.; Abdi, B. The Putative Role of Factor V Leiden and Prothrombin Mutations in Pregnancy Complications

    Get PDF
Context: Thrombophilia is an inherited or acquired predisposition in developing thrombosis. The two common thrombophilia polymorphisms are factor V Leiden (FVL) and factor II/ prothrombin G20210A (PT) gene mutations which can contribute to negative pregnancy outcomes such as miscarriage, in-vitro fertilization (IVF) failure, preeclampsia, intrauterine growth restriction (IUGR), placental abruption, stillbirth, and pregnancy-associated venous thromboembolism. This review study sought to describe the effects of FVL and PT mutations on pregnancy complications. Evidence Acquisition: In this review study, a comprehensive search was performed on Iranian and international databases including MEDLINE, PubMed, Scopus, Web of Sciences, Proquest and Google Scholar for articles published during 1996-2018. Out of 220 reviewed articles, 80 papers were ultimately selected. Results: According to these 80 selected papers, the possible relations of PT and FVL with recurrent pregnancy loss (RPL) have been widely evaluated. Several studies indicated higher risk of recurrent early miscarriages, implantation failure and fetal loss after IVF among women with FVL and PT mutations. Conclusion: Observational studies have suggested the benefits of screening patients for thrombophilic polymorphisms in identification of women with higher risk of developing thromboembolic events and other related pregnancy complications. Based on such screening programs, prophylactic therapy can be limited to a selected group of women who truly need it.

Background: BMD-15 is a member of the superfamily of transforming growth factor-beta (TGF-β), which has a determinant role in fertility. This protein is essential for the development of ovarian follicles and acts mainly by binding to its receptor on the surface of granulosa cells. Aim: The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of BMP-15 on in vitro ovarian follicle growth and embryo development. Methods: In this study, preantral follicles were isolated mechanically from 12 days NMRI mouse ovaries, then the follicles were cultured in basic growth medium enriched by FBS, FSH, and ITS‏ and BMP-15-enriched for 12 days. During the culture, survival rate and follicular maturation, follicular diameter, level of estrogen, and progesterone secretion and embryo developmental rate were evaluated. Results: The results of this study showed that the percentage of antral follicles, maturation rate and hormone levels and the diameter of follicles was significantly higher in BMP-15 supplemented media in comparison to basic media. Embryo development was also higher at BMP-15 enriched group in comparison to the group of follicles, which were grown in the basic culture media. Conclusion: The present study demonstrates that supplemented media with BMP-15 to the ovarian preantral follicle culture enhances the in vitro growth of follicle embryo development

Reversible Removal of Intermixed Shallow States by Light Soaking in Multication Mixed Halide Perovskite Films.

The highest reported efficiencies of metal halide perovskite (MHP) solar cells are all based on mixed perovskites, such as (FA,MA,Cs)Pb(I1-x Br x )3. Despite demonstrated structural changes induced by light soaking, it is unclear how the charge carrier dynamics are affected across this entire material family. Here, various (FA,MA,Cs)Pb(I1-x Br x )3 perovskite films are light-soaked in nitrogen, and changes in optoelectronic properties are investigated through time-resolved microwave conductivity (TRMC) and optical and structural techniques. To fit the TRMC decay kinetics obtained for pristine (FA,MA,Cs)Pb(I1-x Br x )3 for various excitation densities, additional shallow states have to be included, which are not required for describing TRMC traces of single-cation MHPs. These shallow states can, independently of x, be removed by light soaking, which leads to a reduction in the imbalance between the diffusional motion of electrons and holes. We interpret the shallow states as a result of initially well-intermixed halide distributions, which upon light soaking segregate into domains with distinct band gaps.Z.A.-G. acknowledges funding from a Winton Studentship and ICON Studentship from the Lloyd’s Register Foundation. Tilapia is an omnivorous fish which uses different kinds of feed. The aim of this study was to evaluate the histomorphology of esophagus and intestine during the replacement of fish meal with blood powder in the diet of Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus). After preparation, fish were fed with designed diets containing 0 (T0%), 25 (T25%), 50 (T50%), 75 (T75%), and 100% (T100%) blood powder for 8 weeks and each treatment was performed with three replications. After this period, the fish were anesthetized and after opening the abdominal area, 0.5 cm tissue samples were taken from the esophagus and intestine, fixed in 10% neutral buffered formalin. Then, tissue preparation steps were performed including dehydration with alcohol, clarification with xylol, blocking with paraffin, cutting 4-6 microns thick with microtome. After the hematoxylin-eosin and periodic acid-Schiff staining, the microscopic slides were examined under a light microscope. The results of measuring indices such as height and thickness of villi, the thickness of epithelium and muscle layer, and change in the number of mucous cells in the esophagus and intestine showed lower in T100% and T75% in comparison with the control (T0%) and other groups. Therefore, blood powder in the diet is somewhat tolerable and replaceable up to fifty percent for the species

    Get PDF
Purpose: To evaluate the effect of soft contact lens induced myopia and hyperopia on optic nerve head measurements of normal eyes using spectral domain optical coherence tomography (SD-OCT). Methods:  This cross sectional study was performed on 114 emmetropic eyes of 57 participants. Each participant underwent a complete ophthalmic examination including determination of best-corrected visual acuity, intraocular pressure, dry and cycloplegic refraction as well as axial length measurement. SD-OCT measurement was performed in all ayes while different levels of refraction strength were induced by wearing soft contact lenses of five different diopters (- 10.00, - 5.00, Plano, + 5.00, + 10.00). Results:  The mean measured thicknesses of retinal nerve fiber layer were 123.29 ± 10.56 micrometer, 123.17 ± 11.61 micrometer, 122.77 ± 11.61 micrometer, 123.37 ± 11.15 micrometer and 123.42 ± 11.45 micrometer in contact lens induced high myopia, moderate myopia, emmetropic, moderate hyperopia, and high hyperopia groups, respectively (P = 0.721). Also, corresponding evaluations for mean rim area (P = 0.781), mean optic disc area (P = 0.601), mean cup area (P = 0.53), and mean cup to disc area ratio (P = 0.414) showed no statistically significant difference. Conclusion: Our findings indicate that refractive error variation at the corneal plane caused by contact lens wear has no significant effect on thickness of retinal nerve fiber layer, disc area, cup area, rim area and mean cup to disc area ratio measured by SD-OCT.Keywords: Contact Lenses; Hyperopia; Myopia; Tomography, Optical Coherence; Optic Nerv
