Improving Intrusion Prevention, Detection and Response
Merged with duplicate record 10026.1/479 on 10.04.2017 by CS (TIS)In the face of a wide range of attacks. Intrusion Detection Systems (IDS) and other Internet
security tools represent potentially valuable safeguards to identify and combat the problems
facing online systems. However, despite the fact that a variety o f commercial and open source
solutions are available across a range of operating systems and network platforms, it is notable
that the deployment of IDS is often markedly less than other well-known network security
countermeasures and other tools may often be used in an ineffective manner.
This thesis considers the challenges that users may face while using IDS, by conducting a web-based
questionnaire to assess these challenges. The challenges that are used in the questionnaire
were gathered from the well-established literature. The participants responses varies between
being with or against selecting them as challenges but all the listed challenges approved that
they are consider problems in the IDS field.
The aim of the research is to propose a novel set of Human Computer Interaction-Security
(HCI-S) usability criteria based on the findings of the web-based questionnaire. Moreover,
these criteria were inspired from previous literature in the field of HCI. The novelty of the
criteria is that they focus on the security aspects. The new criteria were promising when they
were applied to Norton 360, a well known Internet security suite. Testing the alerts issued by
security software was the initial step before testing other security software. Hence, a set of security software were selected and some alerts were triggered as a result of performing a
penetration test conducted within a test-bed environment using the network scanner Nmap. The
findings reveal that four of the HCI-S usability criteria were not fully addressed by all of these
security software.
Another aim of this thesis is to consider the development of a prototype to address the HCI-S
usability criteria that seem to be overlooked in the existing security solutions. The thesis
conducts a practical user trial and the findings are promising and attempt to find a proper
solution to solve this problem. For instance, to take advantage of previous security decisions, it
would be desirable for a system to consider the user's previous decisions on similar alerts, and
modify alerts accordingly to account for the user's previous behaviour. Moreover, in order to
give users a level of fiexibility, it is important to enable them to make informed decisions, and
to be able to recover from them if needed. It is important to address the proposed criteria that
enable users to confirm / recover the impact of their decision, maintain an awareness of system
status all the time, and to offer responses that match users' expectations.
The outcome of the current study is a set of a proposed 16 HCI-S usability criteria that can be
used to design and to assess security alerts issued by any Internet security suite. These criteria
are not equally important and they vary between high, medium and low.The embassy of the arab republic of Egypt (cultural centre & educational bureau) in Londo
An independent audit oversight system in a non-developed market: the case of Egypt
YesThis study aims to provide a better understanding of oversight the audit profession in Egypt, including its motivations, objectives and its working approach. Further, it reaches a better understanding of the Egyptian Big 4 partners’ perceptions of the new Audit Oversight Board (AOB). Previous studies have frequently examined the audit oversight system in developed countries (US and UK in particular), but little is known on how the system works on developing countries. We believe that facing different problems and challenges demands that audit regulators in developing countries follow different approaches in order to improve the quality of their audit markets. Lack of skilled auditors, lack of transparency and public accountability, and a high level of corruption are the main problems facing the audit profession in Egypt (Awadallah, 2006, Wahdan et. al., 2005: a). Our findings suggest that establishing an audit oversight board in Egypt has been motivated by the need to attract foreign investments and follow the global trend of auditing in developed countries. A number of legal changes are needed in order to improve the AOB’s efficiency
Numerical Assessment of Reinforced Concrete Beams Strengthened with CFRP Sheets under Impact Loading
This paper investigates numerically the behavior of Reinforced Concrete (RC) beams, strengthened using Carbon Fiber Reinforced Polymers (CFRP) sheets, subjected to impact loading. Three-dimensional finite element analysis was performed and its results were verified against experimental ones available in the literature showing good agreement. Then, a comprehensive parametric study was performed to investigate the effect of studied parameters on the strengthened RC beams. The main studied parameters were type and size of reinforcing bars, geometric characteristics of externally bonded CFRP sheets (width, length, and thickness), impact velocity, and the position of the impactor with respect to the beam. Results showed that the use of externally bonded CFRP sheets enhanced the beam capacity and failure mode, and reduced the mid-span deflection. Moreover, a reduction in the mid-span deflection was observed due to the use of CFRP bars as internal reinforcement. On the other hand, the deflection was increased due to the increase of the impact velocity, and the change of the impact load position
Assets of Foreignness: Colonial Mentality and Western Private Equity Managers in the Ex-western Colonies
This dissertation provides the first exploration of the effects of colonial mentality within a business field by examining how indigenous entrepreneurs and business managers interact with Western private equity managers as deal partners in the ex-Western colonies. It does so through the use of an exploratory pilot survey and a quantitative dataset to study the effects of colonial mentality as a source of competitive advantage for Western private equity managers in deal sourcing and investment performance in the ex-Western colonies. It argues that westernness in the ex-Western colonies is a special case of foreignness that can be an asset instead of a liability because of the colonial mentality-engendered attitudes in these markets. The private equity professionals who participated in the pilot survey did indicate that colonial mentality is quite prevalent and does manifest itself in the activities of deal sourcing, fundraising, and is ultimately reflected in the investment performance. However, the archival dataset did not support the hypotheses presented in this research, potentially due to certain private equity data limitations that are discussed in this dissertation.Business Administratio
Study of outcomes of Desarda repair in emergency conditions of inguinal hernia
Background There are two types of hernias in men and women: inguinal hernias and abdominal hernias. Inguinal hernias can be treated with the Desarda technique, a suture-based procedure that is becoming more popular. Objective: improving inguinal hernia repair outcomes by avoiding complications caused by foreign bodies.Patients and Methods: 40 male patients with difficult inguinal hernias were studied in the General Surgery Department of the Faculty of Medicine, Zagazig University Hospital, as part of a prospective study. Six months of follow-up took place from September 2020 to November 2021. Experienced and trained surgeons performed Desarda method procedures on patients. Pain and gait were measured at each follow-up.Results: Twenty-seven of the studied patients had no postoperative complications. Wound infection, seroma and scrotal edema occurred in 5, 6 and 2 of the patients respectively. A statistically significant difference in postoperative Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) scores was found between the groups tested (significantly higher among strangulated hernia). In terms of postoperative complications, the two groups analyzed differ significantly. In cases with obstructed hernia, non-complicated hernias accounted for 23, while strangulated hernias accounted for four. Conclusion: The Desarda approach appears to be a viable alternative to current practices. There are no problems or hernia recurrences as a result of this procedure, which is rapid, uncomplicated, and easy to learn and conduct
Subsurface stratigraphy and micropaleontology of the Neogene rocks, Nile Delta, Egypt
Three wells (Naf-2, Naf-3 and Naf-101), were described and sampled in order to increase understanding of the stratigraphy and micropaleontology of the North Abu Qir Field, Nile Delta, Egypt. Lithostratigraphic studies aided recognition of the following Miocene-Pliocene rock formations (from base to top); Qantara Formation, Sidi Salim Formation, Qawasim Formation, Rosetta Formation, Abu Madi Formation, Kafr El Sheikh Formation, Baltim Formation, Mit Ghamr Formation, and Bilqas Formation. Biostratigraphic studies were based on the distribution of foraminifera through the Miocene-Pliocene succession. The environmental conditions of the Neogene rocks of the studied wells are interpreted using the results of palaeoecological parameters (e.g. the total number of foraminifera (T.N.F) and planktonic/benthonic ratio (P/B)

How to regain public trust in audit firms? The case of the Financial Reporting Council
YesThis study aims to provide a better understanding of the role of the Financial Reporting Council (FRC) in restoring public trust in audit profession in the UK. It analyses the views of partners in the Big 4 audit firms on this role. This study identifies three main strategies to promote trust and enhance the choice of auditors in the UK audit market. These strategies are improving audit quality, increasing the transparency of the big audit firms and reducing the barriers to competition in the audit market. The findings suggest that partners of the Big 4 believe that the FRC's projects effectively participate in improving audit quality as well as providing wider information about the audit firms to the public. However, different actions need to be taken to enhance the choice in the market
Primary versus deferred ureteroscopy for management of calculus anuria in children: Review article
Background: The incidence of urolithiasis in the pediatric population is on the rise. Urolithiasis in the pediatric age group, although occurring less in adults, causes considerable morbidity. The role of ureteroscopy (URS) in the management of calculus anuria could be primary or deferred. The deferred URS after initial ureteral stenting or percutaneous drainage is the standard one. However, the remarkable progress in the manufacturing of ureteroscopes and lithotripters favored the primary URS.Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the results of primary versus deferred URS for management of obstructive calculus anuria (OCA) in children in previous literatures. Methods: We have searched literature in the American National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI), PubMed, Google scholar, Egyptian bank of knowledge, and science direct. Conclusion: Primary URS is a definitive stone management technique and an appropriate option that can reduce hospital stay, prevent multiple anesthesia, and alleviate the costs in children with OCA when performed by skilled endourologists. However the deferred URS is a favored procedure for management of calculus anuria in pediatric patients compared to primary URS
Synthesis and anti-Aphid Aphis gossypii (Glover) activity of some new quinoline derivatives
A series of quinoline derivatives have been elaborated fromreaction of 2-(m- and p-acetylanilino)-quinolines 6a-b withaldehydes under Claisen-Schmidt conditions followed by cyclization with phenyl hydrazine and hydroxylamine. Reaction of  6a and 6b with hydrazine, semicarbazide and thiosemicarbazide, cyanoacetylhydrazide and subsequent some condensation reactions led to diverse quinoline derivatives. Anti aphid  Aphis gossypii that harm cotton cropin Egypt was screened. Compound  12 showed an LC50 value of 19429E-10 ppm which is very more active than Marshal (Carbosulfan), one of the broad spectrum insecticides widely used in this field
