PHYTOCHEMICAL STUDY OF BIOACTIVE CONSTITUENTS FROM SATUREJA MONTANA L. GROWING IN EGYPT AND THEIR ANTIMICROBIAL AND ANTIOXIDANT ACTIVITIES
Objective: This work aimed to investigate the lipid constituents and flavonoidal compounds of Satureja montana, in addition to evaluation of different extracts and/or isolated compounds as antimicrobials and antioxidants. Methods: The volatile and lipid constituents were extracted with n-hexane by partition from hydroalcoholic extract of S. montana L. aerial parts, after then were fractionated to unsaponifiable matters and fatty acid methyl esters which were identified by gas–liquid chromatography and/or gas chromatography–mass spectrometry. The phenolic constituents were isolated from the ethyl acetate fraction of the aqueous methanolic extract of the aerial parts of the plant. The antimicrobial activity of different extracts and the isolated compounds was evaluated against Gram-positive, Gram-negative bacteria, yeast, and fungus using a modified Kirby-Bauer disc diffusion method. Results: The identified compounds are luteolin-7-rhamnoside-4'-O-β-glucopyranoside (1), quercetin-3-O-α-L-rhamnopyranoside (2), quercetin- 7-O-glucopyranoside (3), luteolin-7-O-glucopyranoside (4), 5-hydroxy-6,7,8,4'-tetramethoxy flavone (5), gallic acid (6), 2,3-hexahydroxydiphenoyl 1-galloyl glucopyranoside (7), and quercetin (8). The structure of all isolated compounds was established using different chromatographic and spectroscopic measurements (PC, thin-layer chromatography, ultraviolet [UV], 1D, 2D-nuclear magnetic resonance, and MS). Compound-2 showed the highest antibacterial activity against all the tested microorganisms. Hydroalcoholic extract exhibited high antioxidant activity (87.7%). On the other hand, hexane fraction showed a low antioxidant activity (46.4%), in addition to the compound-8 showed the highest antioxidant activity (96.27%) in 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl assay. Conclusion: It can be concluded that the hydroalcoholic extract of S. montana showed significant antimicrobial and antioxidant activity
On the Performance Analysis of WPT-based Dual-Hop AF Relaying Networks in α-μ Fading
In this paper, a two-hop amplify-and-forward relaying system, where an energy-constrained relay node entirely depends on the energy scavenged from the source signal, is investigated. This paper analyzes the performance of the energy-harvesting (EH) protocols, namely, ideal relaying receiver (IRR), power-splitting relaying (PSR) and time-switching relaying (TSR), over independent but not identically distributed (i.n.i.d.) α-μ fading channels in terms of the ergodic capacity and ergodic outage probability (OP). We derive exact unified and closed-form analytical expressions for the performance metrics with the aforementioned protocols over i.n.i.d. α-μ channels. Three fading scenarios, such as Weibull, Nakagami-m and Rayleigh channels, are investigated. Provided simulation and numerical results validate our analysis. It is demonstrated that the optimal EH time-switching and power-splitting factors of the corresponding TSR and PSR protocols are critical in achieving the best system performance. Finally, we analyzed the impact of the fading parameters α and μ on the achievable ergodic OP

BIOPROCESIRANJE PRIRODNE FOSFATNE RUDE BAKTERIJOM STAPHYLOCOCCUS AUREUS
Phosphate ores are in high demand around the world because they are the primary raw materials used in the manufacturing of phosphatic fertilizers and other chemicals. Since the grade of the ore is gradually declining, it is becoming economically viable to mine and beneficiate numerous lower-grade deposits, and a significant number of precious minerals are discarded due to the inadequacy of new technological advances. Thus, biological processes are becoming more appealing in mineral processing due to their lower operating costs and potential applications to beneficiate low-grade complex ores through the interaction of bacteria and mineral surfaces, resulting in surface modification and mineral separation via bio-flotation. Staphylococcus aureus was supplied by the mineral bioprocessing lab, CMRDI. Bacterial adhesion measurements revealed a higher affinity for apatite than quartz. A binary mixture containing 12.5% P2O5 and 42.5% SiO2 yielded a concentrate containing 20.15% P2O5 and 33.5% SiO2. Using the bio-flotation process with Staphylococcus aureus and the optimal conditions on natural phosphate ore, a concentrate with 30.25% P2O5 was obtained from a feed containing 21.89% P2O5.Diljem svijeta velika je potražnja za fosfatnom rudom s obzirom na to da je riječ o primarnoj sirovini koja se koristi u proizvodnji fosfatnih gnojiva i drugih kemikalija.
Autoimmunity & Type 1 diabetes patients: Review Article
Background: Increased blood glucose levels (hyperglycemia) are a hallmark of type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM), a chronic autoimmune illness marked by insulin insufficiency as a result of the destruction of the pancreatic islet cells. T1DMs a widespread metabolic disorder in children. The loss of cells is due to autoimmunity in mostndividuals (70-90%) with T1DM(concomitant with the formation of T1DM-associated autoantibodies). Autoantibodies are often detected months or even years before the start of symptoms in people with T1DM. These autoantibodies are indicators of the onset of autoimmunity rather than pathogens. Many autoimmune diseases have symptoms of T1DM. Such factors may profoundly impact clinical care of the illness, particularly in children. The four most common autoimmune disorders are vitiligo, Addison's disease, celiac disease, and autoimmune thyroid disease.
Objectives: To outline the association of T1DM as an autoimmune disease with other comorbid autoimmune illnesses
Conclusion: Several endocrine and non-endocrine autoimmune diseases are strongly linked to type 1 diabetes mellitus
The Impact of Restrictive Versus Conservative Intraoperative Fluid Strategies upon the Renal Outcome in Colorectal Surgeries. A Randomized Controlled Trial
Background: intraoperative fluid handling has a lot of concerns upon the postoperative organ function. One of the most sensitive organs which could be affected is the kidney.
Objectives: We conducted this trial to address the impact of restrictive vs. conservative fluid approaches on postoperative renal complications, hemodynamics and hospital stay.
Patients and methods: Prospective, randomized, double-blind placebo-controlled trial at Assiut University Hospitals. The study included 60 adult patients with American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) grade II-III undergoing elective colorectal surgery with an expected operative duration of at least two hours. Grouping was based upon the intraoperative fluid management Group (R): 6 mL/kg/h. of lactated ringer (LR), Group (C): 12 mL/kg/h. of LR. The preoperative serum Neutrophil gelatinase-associated lipocalin (NGAL) level (basal value) then by the 2nd and 24th postoperative hours, KDIGO (Kidney Disease: Improving Global Outcomes), serum urea and creatinine were documented by the end of 1st and 2nd postoperative days. Intraoperative hypovolemia events were noted as well.
Results: serum NGAL has increased >149 ng/mlin three patients within group C, and two patients within group R; however, the difference was statistically insignificant p= 0.5. KDIGO showed significant difference between the two groups, with higher number of patients in the group R with p= 0.043. Serum urea and creatinine, intraoperative hypovolemic episodes showed insignificant differences between groups.
Conclusion: no evident difference between restrictive and conservative intraoperative fluid strategies was noticed upon the early postoperative serum NGAL and other systems complications in patients undergoing major colorectal surgeries
Identification of Prognostic Metabolomic Biomarkers at the Interface of Mortality and Morbidity in Pre-Existing TB Cases Infected With SARS-CoV-2
Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection currently remains one of the biggest global challenges that can lead to acute respiratory distress syndrome (CARDS) in severe cases. In line with this, prior pulmonary tuberculosis (TB) is a risk factor for long-term respiratory impairment. Post-TB lung dysfunction often goes unrecognized, despite its relatively high prevalence and its association with reduced quality of life. In this study, we used a metabolomics analysis to identify potential biomarkers that aid in the prognosis of COVID-19 morbidity and mortality in post-TB infected patients. This analysis involved blood samples from 155 SARS-CoV-2 infected adults, of which 23 had a previous diagnosis of TB (post-TB), while 132 did not have a prior or current TB infection. Our analysis indicated that the vast majority (~92%) of post-TB individuals showed severe SARS-CoV-2 infection, required intensive oxygen support with a significantly high mortality rate (52.2%). Amongst individuals with severe COVID-19 symptoms, we report a significant decline in the levels of amino acids, notably the branched chains amino acids (BCAAs), more so in the post-TB cohort (FDR <= 0.05) in comparison to mild and asymptomatic cases. Indeed, we identified betaine and BCAAs as potential prognostic metabolic biomarkers of severity and mortality, respectively, in COVID-19 patients who have been exposed to TB. Moreover, we identified serum alanine as an important metabolite at the interface of severity and mortality. Hence, our data associated COVID-19 mortality and morbidity with a long-term metabolically driven consequence of TB infection. In summary, our study provides evidence for a higher mortality rate among COVID-19 infection patients who have history of prior TB infection diagnosis, which mandates validation in larger population cohorts
